    Looks like the Western car makers who have been pushing upmarket assuming the Chinese would just want to come in at the bottom end might be getting a little worried. The Chinese are going to attack both ends of the market. And do a pretty good job.

    • @costiqueR
      @costiqueR Před rokem

      It is exactly the opposite, the Chinese attack, and the west moves slowly. Chinese producers started this, not the west. China has more than 100 EV producers, what you see is nothing. This year, Chinese automakers sold over 7 million EVs in China...

Just to give an anecdote: If you're somewhat successful (think manager, etc) in China and you want to buy a car, it is expected of you to buy a non-chinese car, both as a symbol of wealth but also because the Chinese manufacturers are still not there yet on the level of western manufacturers. In China, we prefer pure EV brands over traditional combustion engine car makers.
      Almost no one buys BMW, Mercedes, VW, or Audi EVs (priced lower than in Europe), even though their petrol cars are super popular.

  • @mikaelfagermochristensen3020

    The nio es8 is prized in norway without the battery, cause you get the option to rent the battery for a monthly fee. So if you buy the nio with the battery its actually a bit more than the voyah.

    When I tested this car in China a year ago I thought it felt very French. No kidding, there is Dongfeng Peugeot, Dongfeng Citroen, Dongfeng Renault and Dongfeng Nissan. Good build quality and well designed. Voyah is just made with more luxurious materials. As with NIO that is made by JAC Automotive Dongfeng is also using European designers and suppliers (located in China) to make their cars.
    The sport mode has the dashboard lowered for better visibility in hilly winding roads. It makes sense when you try it. This actually scored higher than the NIO ES6 because I realized I don’t need that big car (trunk).

  • @cbatiau2528
    @cbatiau2528 Před rokem +6

    Now THAT is how computer screens should be put in cars: horizontally and nicely inlaid into the dashboard (instead of in cheap-looking iPad-glued-to-dashboard portrait screens). I'm waiting for some automaker to make their electrochromic roof glass go opaque (like in the Boeing Dreamliner passenger windows), not just translucent like here and in the Taycan and in the Venza. But this electrochromic glass here is very cool, as far as it goes... In fact, put these screens and that electrochromic glass (along with the "physical" button panels of the EV6 or Ioniq5) into the forthcoming Polestar 3 (with good, working software), and you have almost the perfect BEV!

      Voyah isn't doing too well in China. The Free is often derided for being a bit "generic" (let that sink in a bit) among the fierce competition. Dengfeng, owner of the Voyah marque, seems to be having a bit struggle with NEV cars. Being a large SoE however means they won't be going anywhere soon. Voyah's second model, the Dreamer minivan, is faring a tad better, and they'll soon release a sedan.
      Anyway. Your worry is warranted. There is a plethora of Chinese NEV makers - BYD, Changan, Geely, SAIC, GWM, GAC, Nio, Xpeng, Li Auto, Neta, Leapmotor... all more competitive (sales wise at least) than Dongfeng, that are eager to expand overseas. Geopolitical issues means the US will probably be among the last market they land, but when they do, it'll be the fittest among the survivors, having not just taken roots in China, but also Europe, Japan, SEA, the Oceania...
