  • I've been wanting to drive the updated 2022 Land Rover Discovery for ages and finally we had the chance to get behind the wheel! While it visually may look similar, it's inside the cabin where a bulk of the changes have happened. Paul Maric tests out the Land Rover Discovery to see if it's any good.

    Have the exact color combo in a 2018 HSE Lux, and absolutely love it. The last row seats are "actual" seats, at 5'11" i can get in and sit very comfortably, they are heated as well so great for Canadian winters. Speaking of winters, this car has given my family tremendous confidence in ANY weather conditions. From minus 40 degrees in heavy blowing snow to plus 35 degrees in the middle of a hot summer, this car is super comfortable and safe. The heated windscreen and heated headlight washer a huge bonus in winter. The climate control 1st and second row seats, with massage in the 1st row make for a superb ride. No reliability issues either in 4 years worth of on road and off road driving. My only misgiving is I have the old "V6" lump, and I've driven the new in in-line 6 and what a difference, the inline is so smooth and balanced in comparison to the V which admittedly sounds and feels harsh and unrefined.

      thanks. what about cold weather impacting hoses or clamps. Does your car have turbo? ever have issues with hoses popping off? This has happened numerous times to me leaving me stranded. I learned the real definition of 'reliability' only after getting my land rover.

    Something worth highlighting is that it's a brilliant tow car. I've an 11 year old Range Rover that has covered over 120,000 miles - much of which were covered pulling my daughter's horsebox to various competitions. I borrowed one of these for a weekend and it was fantastic - even more stable on the road than the RR. So boat owners and horsey people should look at it seriously.

I've lost count with people asking me what is this vehicle when we go out as everyone is more accustomed to BMW and Mercedes or Audi and then the Discovery adds more spice to the mix...

    Recently test drove both Defender and Disco, one huge issue is all future delivery models WILL be dumbed down due to chip shortage. For example to drivers side digital screen will be gone into 2024, they are reverting back to the analog screen as previous models. Other options will be severely restricted. Maybe worthwhile focusing on this issue of Dealers displaying vehicles that we cannot buy. Also LR factories in slowdown, shutdown so god knows how this would effect parts supply, the electronics issue you mention in the video Paul will likely require a non-existent replacement, this bit of kit 'must' perform flawlessly as it controls just about everything, maybe they would replace whole vehicle which has been done. We walked away.....

    • @jerrymyahzcat
      @jerrymyahzcat Před 2 lety +1

      You can and should turn that auto lowering into access height Off. You should really only use it when entering a low parking building (that’s really what it’s for) or putting heavy/large stuff in the back. If you have it hunker down into access height and back to normal each time you turn it off you put the airbag suspension through much more than normal wear and tear and they will fail prematurely requiring repairs sooner that should be necessary. Best to just leave it in normal height and only change height as and when actually needed (use access height to let granny in sure).
      The problem with rear door windows going all the way down is that the manufacturer has to make the window much smaller (less wide), make the door very square or put in a little quarter glass. That’s why most never do.

    • @offroadingfoz
      @offroadingfoz Před 2 lety +1

      The will automatically try and level itself but it’s not safe or advisable to turn off a car when in an off-road situation where not all wheels are stable. One great thing about land rovers is they have massive oil sumps so they can have oil in engine if parked on steep hills so when you turn the car off and on it’s always got oil in engine no matter the angle (within standard operating boundaries which I think is 45degrees). Perfect for those that park on steep driveways all the time.

      Problem is that the Ineos Grenadier is the Old Defender. The new Defender is the Defender for the 21st century. The old design is just too old and unsafe etc. The new Defender couldn’t be the Discovery as it doesn’t look like one - it looks like a Defender. The 5th Gen Discovery looks like a Discovery. LR have got it right. For people who like to complain - start up your own car company and do it better. As a RR owner, the small flat top layer is pretty useless when you lift it to get into the bigger storage space in console. Coins or whatever tend to fall in between seats or in the lower storage area when you lift it. The LR4 was a fantastic looking true LR and used/pre-owned ones are still in very high demand here in the US.

    The strange design rear tailgate and offset number plate is a nod to the past when the spare tyre used to me mounted on the rear instead of underneath. I don’t like it personally but that’s why it’s like that.

    I’m not a fan of the offset design of the rear tailgate.
    In the UK, a company sells a normal looking tailgate, that is OEM quality, and it looks fantastic.
    I’d seriously get this shipped from the UK, and fitted locally to the Disco.

The Disco is less thirsty (but uses Premium fuel thou) than the Jeep and a little more smoother… very impressive for a 6 cylinder. But the Jeep had a little more tech than my current Disco. The Land Rover Brand might be having it's downsides, which is a lot, but there are lot of upsides too!
    It over base-level Range Rover vibes, at around 76,000 U$Dollars, which is much less than the Range Rover, but it offers almost the same features of the vehicle...after all it is based on the same platform, so much so it's called the "Poor man's Range Rover! And lets not forget the offroad capabilities... though i won't take it offroad.... the lx is much better for my health...

    I always get annoyed with all the car manufacturers when they give the name to their infotainment systems and many times silly names too (when they try to make them sound technical). Why on earth they need the name. It is not like they are some brand names of electronics companies or known names of any car parts manufacturers. It is not like that if they dont name their infotainment system you get into your car and cannot find it because you forgot the name of your car infotainment system. OK if you buy the same brand car and they put different info models into their different price range car models you could understand if they give you model number of their unit and just change suffix number to it to mark cheaper or more advanced models. But even then they usually differ in screen size anyways and dont need the model number or name at all. But then they add a suffix name like: PRO! So they must make the same model for amateurs and this model is for professional only. What profession is this you have to train yourself to when you have to use this info system professionally? Especially if it comes faulty.

      Depends on your requirements, and what is important to you.
      Is your budget $ 100 k
      Or $ 150 k ?
      Ability to comfortably tow 3.5 tonne ?
      Off road ability ?
      Comfort as a 7 seater ?
      As a 7 seater, Disco is better.
      More room in Row 3.
      Row 2 in LC is fixed.
      In the Disco, you can slide Row 2 forward / back, which gives a lot of versatility with the seating arrangements.
      Disco has higher GVM & GCM.
      Disco can be at GVM, and still tow 3.5 tonne.
      LC can’t do this.
      A new GXL LC costs over
      $ 110 k on road, before options.
      No power tailgate
      No rain sensing wipers
      No surround view camera
      Locking front & rear diff aren’t available on GXL.
      Prices constantly going up with all manufacturers, and spec / equipment levels changing etc.
