MJ's resume is overwhelming. I think Lebron is great, he's a legitimate generational player. The problem is its not fair to compare Jordan to anyone, even Lebron. I'm going to leave just a little chunk of MJ's legacy here for anyone interested.
    Jordan on Offense
30.1ppg for his career, most in NBA history
33.4ppg career playoffs average, most in NBA history
33.6ppg in 6 Finals appearances, most in NBA history
41.0ppg in a Finals series, most in NBA history
10 Scoring titles, most in NBA history
10 seasons with 2,000+ points, NBA record
    Jordan with Analytics
PER (Player Efficiency Rating): Highest in history for both the regular season (27.91) and the playoffs. (28.6)
Win Shares per 48 (WS/48): Highest in history for both the regular season (.2505) and the playoffs (.2553)
Box plus Minus: Highest in history for both the regular season (9.22) and the playoffs (11.14)
VORP per Game: Highest in history for both the regular season (.1083) and the playoffs(.1382)
    Jordan on Defense
He was the first player in history to be selected to 9 All Defensive First teams.
He was the first player in history to get 200 steals and 100 blocks in a season, it has still only been done by 3 players. (Michael did it twice).
He was the steals leader 3 times.
He's the only guard in history, relative to his position, both in the Top 5 for blocks and Top 5 for steals.
He was the defensive Player of the Year and Scoring Champion in the same year, the only player in history to accomplish this.
His 131 blocks for the 1988 season is still the most blocks in a season by a guard in NBA history.

The Gatorade slogan "Be like Mike" was a mantra repeated by every inspired kid with basketball hoop in his driveway. Simply unreal the way he and the Bulls just electrified the court. The only team I truly enjoyed watching as much as the 90's bulls was the 2005 "7 seconds or less" Suns.

I can tell you one other measure of greatness-- as a Canadian, I love hockey. Basketball's not my game. But during the Bulls' run of greatness, people in Vancouver and Toronto STOPPED WHAT THEY WERE DOING to watch the Bulls games live. Time off work, appointments cancelled, all that. Jordan's interest transcended even the sport of basketball-- he was a kind of god among men.
I don't think Lebron can say that.

      I'm with you.
He was the reason the game of basketball hit worldwide.
moms around the world didn't know what the hell basketball was but knew the name Michael Jordan.
that's also when street basketball of 3 on 3 got popular.
Animations like Slam Dunk and TV dramas of basketball made sensation.
He was then once compared in a TV show to Michael Jackson on who the most valuable person is if i remember correctly. (his fame surpassed that of Jackson by then of course)
He was the star of stars as even stars looked at him with awe when in person.
      He was a world phonemenon.
He changed the game itself and the world towards it after.
Not the same can be said to anyone else, not Lebron nor any other star in any sports.
Yeah, if that can't be a true measurement of Greatness, then what else can be?

Looking back, I feel very lucky to have been able to spend my entire childhood watching MJ play, and watched the entire run of the repeat-3 peat. Even in my late 30s, I can still hear in my head Marv Albert commentating as MJ stuck dagger after dagger into opponents in the playoffs. That speaks volumes to how tough the league was back then and how physically and mentally tough you had to be.

The refs would probably have laughed at him while he was on the ground.
Moreover, there would have been no leaving a team, getting your friends to form a super team in another city or another city, etc. At least, he would have been part of a very good Cleveland team.
He would not have to play under a Jordan Rules, but rather, a Hack-a-Shak rule since he is a poor free throw shooter.
Can anyone remember a star, during the Jordan era, who would save their energy on defense to be more effective on offense?

Jordan is a testimony of what happens when you take natural talent, and push it to the limit with a work ethic that makes others envious. That's why he is the GOAT. He didn't coast on his talent and natural skill. He ALWAYS pushed himself and his team mates and built a legacy no other player has been able to duplicate.... only envy.

A couple tidbits on MJ's 3-point shooting. It never gets mentioned that he was the Bulls most prolific 3-point shooter in the first 3-peat years in the playoffs. He made the most 3's and shot them at 38.5%. Also little known fact...everyone talks about the 6 3's Jordan hit in the first half of game 1 against the Blazers in 1992. What doesn't get mentioned is he ended that series hitting more 3's than the entire Blazers team. Jordan wasn't going to go out of his way to spam 3's just for the sake of it, but you couldn't leave him alone at the 3-point line either. It's not a weakness unless it can be exploited. You couldn't exploit MJ from there, he would make you pay for it.

Rarely mentioned in these videos is the 180° breakaway rim that was implemented in 2009. It made the basket much softer, and shooting percentages immediately improved and have been higher ever since. LeBron has now played 12 years with those rims.

      @nopillnews Před 2 lety +23

That’s a good point!!! I can’t believe I never thought about it that way. When I used to play basketball at the park we HATED the harder rims. If you didn’t swish it, you were screwed. It would bounce all the way out of bounds. But at the inside gyms with the breakaways you would get 2 or 3 bounces and it might go in. Plus it made it easier to gauge where the ball was going for your own putback.
