Easy Fix- GMC/Chevy 2007-2013 Flashing Check Engine/ Stabilitrak/ Traction Control

  • Several lights such as check engine flashing , stabilitrak, traction control and rough idling came up all at once. After research I was quickly able to find that it was simply a problem with miss-fires in the cylinders and the other indicators were common byproducts. I simply changed the spark plugs and fixed the problem instantly. Truck runs great, I took it over a mountain pass and back pulling my camper immediately after with no problems in the 300+ miles over the weekend. Hope this helps:)

I know the problem! I forgot I commented on here before I figured it out, but I do know what it is now! It has nothing to do with throttle body, or anything else! It's actually an issue with the connection between male and female connectors in the main fuse block! I came across an article that explained it perfectly, and it lead to us using dialectic grease on the connecting pins, and replacing the bolt that holds the block together, and it worked!

Thank you so much for making this video. I had both stability track and traction control light go on December 2020. Paid for the full AAA membership to have it towed the next day to have it investigated at the Fix-It shop. My roommate told me he would have a guy come out and hook it up to a device that would tell us what was wrong with it. He told me I needed a brand new transmission and quoted me $7,500. Mine is a 2007 Chevy Suburban with 120,000 MI on it. Then my roommate took out the battery because he told me my battery was bad even though it was just 6 months old. He said he hooked up the little device and it just said; "Error"reading. Every night I've been dreaming it was a spark plug wires or the spark plugs themselves. I have been told that I am an empath and have wondered if I have some kind of connection to my car since the whole time I thought this was the issue but my roommate told me I needed another transmission. My car has been driven like it was a Bentley. Maintained in pristine condition with full Chevy dealership maintenance every 6 months in St George Utah but they were still never able to figure out how to stop the light that said; "Tire pressure monitoring system" even though I got brand new tires. Just come to the realization that I am indeed smarter than a man! Never believe anything a man tells you unless he is a qualified vehicle maintenance person.

    2012 GMC sierra 1500 here.
changed plugs, worked for a week then started it again. changed wires (thought i saw some rubbed insulation on #5), no effect, still doing it. changed coil pack (v6, the single pack up in the back where distributors used to go in the old days). thought that had fixed it as it ran great for 5 weeks. then started doing it again this past monday.
I know its electrical in nature and not the stuck lifter that others have described, since if you take both battery leads off and let it sit for an hour to fully deenergize/reset. then hook it back up and go for a drive everything is fine. but when you turn if off and start it up again, it starts doing it straight away.
I don't think my engine has AFM since its a V6 but i could be wrong. Could it be the ignition control module? something bricked in the ECU? idk. i just want to get this thing fixed so i can sell it and be rid of it. I got a BMW with 100k miles on it that's more reliable than this truck has been with only 47k, since day one. Freaking ridiculous that an american made truck is this shitty. Think i'll buy a nissan...

My 2015 Chevrolet Silverado has 57,002 miles. Engine light came on and the dealership mechanic said I needed a engine rebuild due to a stuck lifter and misfire on cylinder #1. $5k in repairs on a vehicle less than 5 years old. GM mechanic said it was a common problem. GM is trash in reliability.

I just had the same problem on my 2013 Buick regal turbo and it told me I had a misfire on cylinder 3 and the same lights came out on the dash in video and it was off because I had changed my sparks a month ago with high end ones and so my mechanic changed them and I took the car and it shut down on driving home but this time same dash lights but it said it needed a coil on bank 1 had it changed and the car runs perfect so far. Don't trust the dealership, take it to autozone if you don't have a code reader and see what the cars computer is saying.

I've had it happen to me twice. I ended up finding on of the lifters was collapsed. Put solid lifters in it and a delete kit. Ran fine for a while. Now I have the stupid stabilitrak light and loss of power. Othing like the loss of power when the lifter collapsed so I know it's nothing to serious. I replaced all grounds and both battery terminals. Cleaned up all connections and still doing it.

Spark Plugs? People don't change them things till they are 50k miles past due. Plugs are cheap, but for some reason half the population does no change them till the car barely runs. What they don't realize is for the prior year they got 3 miles less per gallon burned. 30.00 set of plugs cost you 200.00 in extra fuel last year.

But I hope just ground problem mine happens more when rains and also my trans will shift hard into 2 and not as strong power and my light on dash and radio dim and sometimes they come back bright ..but I seen where someone fixed there ground wire and everything went away they even had the trans problem witch is so strange it only happens sometimes and usaily if I let truck warm up for awhile don't do it..

I have a 2008 Sierra ~ 188k and was experiencing the same - service traction control, service stabilitrak, and reduced power.
Took off my valve cover and started the engine for a sec - could clearly see one rocker arm on cylinder 4 wasn’t moving at all. Cylinder 4 has those active fuel management lifters on it that are prone to failing over time. Took my heads off and sure enough… had a bad lifter on the rocker arm that was not moving.
Hope you get yours figured out 👍

08 suburban ltz 197000miles 4x4.. same here with me. Number 7 was BURNT.
Within the last 4 weeks I've done this:
All spark plugs & wires, MAF sensor, cleaned throttle body(without removing it or forcing it wide open), seafoam in 2 fill ups, installed range AFM disabler, fuel system cleaned and flushed at shop, driver's valve cover.
After all this I'm still getting CEL, traction control and stabilitrack. I had rough idle AND hard shift BEFORE touching throttle body. I'm not giving up so next I'll test my coils..
I also wanna add that I unplugged my old MAF sensor and the truck kept running, however, when I slowly plugged it back in the engine attempted to die. When I installed new MAF sensor I repeated same steps and the engine KEPT RUNNING. I ended up keeping my old maf in storage and left the new one on.
I absolutely despise seeing ANY dash lights!! Any suggestions besides scrapping my truck?
