In this video I went ahead and purchased "Flash Tune Data-Link ECU Flashing Kit " for my MT-07. It lets you adjust and tune the bike to your liking without going to a dyno. It is not 100% perfect because every bike is different, but it's close enough. The reason why I purchased it was because I can make adjustments at any time, without taking apart my bike every time.

Im years late, but i just wanted to say this is the best and most clear step by step FTecu flash video out there. Nice job.
Important when connecting the ground wire to the frame: you should sandpaper the paint off, so you create a conductive patch for the connector.
I am years late, I have the same bike, same exhaust, this is a perfect step by step so I know what I am doing when I can look at my bike again!

It's 2022 and this video was the perfect guide for my 2021 MT-07, thanks for taking the time to make a complete understandable video. There are new maps for the 2021, and Power Commander fuel maps to import for my mods. My ground lead reached to the battery negative post with a few inches to spare and the wires are routed very well.

cool video, nice addition to jakes. you showed the computer/software part better. cant wait to try it on mine once the warranty ends. id love to see more what the software looks like especially what options you have. e.g. i know you can change the cooling fan on/off temps anything else?
btw the exhaust and the intake have to be done together as well as reflash to equal more power. whats going on is you are increasing airflow and the amount of fuel being burned to get more power. if you just do the exhaust its like running while breathing in thru a straw but out your mouth. you have to make the intake more free flowing also or you wont get more air going thru the engine. then you have to match the correct amount of fuel to the increased air to get a bigger boom in each cylinder.

The sounds definetly different when you disassemble that snorkel part.
Take the airbox lid off any vehicle and it will sound louder and sharper

Those "high flow" air filters are LIFETIME filters tho. You save money inn the long run my dude. All you have to do is but the cleaner and oil which usually last atleast 4 maybe 5 cleanings. It's VERY MUCH worth the money. Not necessarily for the EXTRA POWER, but for the fact that you don't ever have to buy another air filter as long as you have the bike. And they do help with power if you have an exhaust and flashed ecu as you do. So yeah, go with the high flow filter and tune your bike for it. My opinion. Not that it matters lol.
RenesMDJ I have an intake and exhaust. The only reason to buy a aftermarket oil air filter is for performance, for that price you can buy several stock ones. When I put it on there was a slight increase in power, very minimal.
Shrinking cable would've made those 3 lose cables nice and tidy.

Not sure, but I think that "cable" has a FTDI TTL Datalink chip inside the USB side of it... IF this is the case... I might make my own kit. ANYWAY. Great video.

Great walkthrough! I was also hurting for more info after watching Jake's video. I finally pieced together enough info from several sites and videos to flash tune my FZ-07 myself.
I did have to contact FT when I tried to change the fan temperatures, which at first had no effect when I adjusted them. It turned out that the calibration range for the temps was different from the ECU range. For example, in order to get the fan to switch off/on at 195/205 degrees, I had to set the range in the software to 215/225. The threshold at which the ECU will pick up the changes might be different for everyone, just thought I'd share my experience!
Otherwise the ECU flash was a success and a massive improvement after installing a Yoshi pipe!

For the 2018 MT-07 all you need to do is take the rear seat off, use the supplied allen keys under the seat, take the main seat off, take the black side panels off in the 2 screw locations, and take the pop pin out in the front. No need to take the ecu out, and you have access to the wires.

How did the USB connector registering go? How do you register it in order to get the installation documents?
The difference in sound is most likely from you taking the snorkel off. Your probably hearing more intake noises.
Hi flow performance filters are cleanable and reusable. So its cheaper in the long term.
Thank you for the video, it was detailed & well explained. I just bought my mt-07 this year so this ECU flashing is quite new for me. I order a slip on M4 exhaust, I was told that I must get ECU flash or else the bike will run lean. My question is does it get tunned according to the exhaust pipe you put on? are there specific settings for the exhaust you put on?
I heard that is important to flash the ECU according to the exhaust.
An Akrapović exhaust has its map and so does the M4 exhaust. But, on the small bike like that I heard that it’s good enough the match the exhaust length and not the brand of the exhaust.
So, if you match your M4 exhaust with an let’s say Akrapović short exhaust. I think it will be fine.
And of course you have your dyno tune. But, that it much much better and completely different story

True. Problem is Jake is a mechanic. Experienced people tend to leave out what they consider simple things when giving instructions. To the non experienced, those simple things are huge lol.

Flash is the way on this CP2 engine. You are going to pay more for less gain with these ftecu.
If a reputable dyno guy has a solid built flash for the CP2 (2wheeldynoworks) ypu cant beat it

You sure that it's more power then stock?
You can pull wheelies in 1 and 2 gear from low speed without clutch with that bike stock. Didn't seem like yours did when you did several pulls from 1 gear.
Marius Karstad you see the problem with this video is the fact that I’m experiencing power gain from the power loss I had with the exhaust. From my experience it wasn’t a huge gain from stock, but it does feel like it has more pick up in the mid range. Plus in this video I wasn’t giving it full throttle. I’m still experimenting with different maps. But so far I’m pretty happy with the results. I’ll have a video explaining my thoughts later on :)

Marius Karstad I think it was never noticeable because he went with a full exhaust soon as he got the bike throwing everything out of tune from stock.

There are two harness cable right? In which harness cable got the installation guide ? Because I saw they selling both separately.. it's in the first cable you install (fix in ecu) or the 2nd cable (which is usb cable to pc).. ?
Hey a quick question how do you program the new aftermarket exhaust you never show that , do you need to download something for it or how do you program the new exhaust I know you download the map but you didn't explain about the exhaust

So I got a 2016 Fz 09 and i added an m4 slip on and k&n filter and I’m stuck on which I should get a power commander or a flash tune. I know they can do different things to the bike but since I won’t be adding anymore performance mods and it won’t be going on track should I just stick with the ecu flash? I’m just not sure if they have the maps for my mods.

Hi when u load the ft ecu label then go to to power commander site in there files are differnert numbers so no idea how to match numbers to the ecu version ..do u have any in depth info of matching files and site address

Nevermind, I got it, "extract" to pull the pvm into the program, "write" to write onto the ecu👍👍

You can but it will detect the new ecu. So you will have to buy a new license for 100
Nice! I'm hoping to put one of these on my 2018 xsr700. I have heard it is the same kit as yours. Was my bike listed there when you had to choose on the software?
Hmm.. XSR900 is listed, but XSR700 is not. So I'm not sure if the mt-07 flash will work on that bike. Try emailing them they usually reply within 48 hours :)

Yes so when you flash the ECU you use up a license (which gets coded in the ecu) so you will need to buy another license to use on the other bike. The usb cable gets registered to your account, so you can only flash the another bike with the same account and a new license
