      Without a doubt, lol; just a rib at ol' Dan. I had a 89 XT600 I was working on and while they weren't as scarce as the Harley, parts here in the US weren't exactly common.

    If I were to do this, I'd be shitting myself knowing that I may mess up at any point and cause irreparable damage to a 7k bike . You're working on it as if it's a worthless bicycle. But, obviously you have the expertise and seem to be doing a lot of research beforehand. Kudos to you sir!
    Ps- I don't even own a bike. I just went down through the CZcams rabbit hole researching MT07s.

    I've had my fz07 for almost two years it's my first bike, I have wanted to do the mods in your series the whole time but I put it off because I didn't have the confidence to do it myself.
    Now I have your videos and I"M DOING ALL OF THEM you are my fz07 God.

      @Mech.E Před 2 lety

      How much of a difference does it make?

    • @Second_Opinion_2
      @Second_Opinion_2 Před 2 lety

      @@Mech.E I'd say it depends on your expectations, if you think these mods will make you Valentino Rossi or double your horsepower you will be greatly disappointed
      I for one got great satisfaction out of getting to know my bike working on it and making it my own
      the difference in some mods is more obvious than others, for some if you do one and you want any benefit you have to do another like for this video if you do the flashtune I would also go for their autotune tri-lamda sensor which doubles the price of the flashtune kit but is totally worth it, but the sensor they use is larger than the stock so you might as well get an exhaust that takes the larger sensor. With a new exhaust and the basic flashtune kit my bike ran like crap, with the autotune upgrade it runs great

    • @Mech.E
      @Mech.E Před 2 lety +1

      @@Second_Opinion_2 appreciate it! Interesting because no one else mentions the autotune o2 sensor. I'm currently looking around for a used mt07 wish me luck !

    • @Second_Opinion_2
      @Second_Opinion_2 Před 2 lety

      @@Mech.E They don't mention the sensor but some do mention putting the bike on a dyno to tune it which accomplishes the same goal
      Dyno will give you a great fuel map for whatever the current environmental conditions are, that day, for the price of one dyno session the autotune sensor tunes the bike on the fly as you ride so you don't have to worry about seasonal changes, elevation or anything else, unless you you have cheap unlimited access to access to a dyno I think it's the way to go
      Good luck

    This is super cool! I didn't know anyone made a kit like this! Screw power commanders, they don't even come close to control level you get when you can tune the factory ECU. I especially like the permanent wiring harness addition that lets you tune the bike without ripping everything apart and pulling the ECU off.

    Thanks for the video Jake, you're the man!!! I finally used this to flash my ECU today and the thing runs so much harder with the unrestricted / power commander stock fuel map. The mpg appears to be slightly worse, but I'm totally OK with that. I will say that for anyone else attempting this that you can use a needle to push the connector plugs out from the other side if they get pushed in too far. Also, if you get stuck in connection error hell, keep in mind that the dash will read error when it's ready to flash and don't try to clear the error before clicking next.

    After spending several days online doing research .. I same to the same Conclusion that Jake did.. I also found Velox Racing in my searches he seems to be the only business out there that has made a video on FT ECU .. he does reply his e-mails .. Supposedly the FZ-07 has pulled timing in 1st and speed and is speed limited in 5th and 6th .. I too like the strong engine braking with full fuel shut off when you are off the throttle .. It could be too abrupt for racing on the track but saves using your brakes on the street .. Plus my stock bike runs even leaner because of E-10 gasoline ..

    Hey Jake, used to watch the channel a ton for tips before I got my first bike AND just discovered we have the exact same bike now(love that night flo color scheme)! This video (and the whole series) has been really helpful for the various upgrades I've done, so thanks for that! I had never even heard of the flashtune kit before this, everyone only mentioned the power commander. Just wanted to say that I followed this vid exactly and ran into some trouble when my laptop wouldn't connect to the ECU, and I realized that bolt you recommended wasn't working as a ground. Ran the wire to a different bolt that attaches the gas tank to the frame and it worked no problem, I think because the part I picked was unpainted. I saw this video in tons of forums when I was troubleshooting, so if you could put an annotation or something on where exactly you ran it to make it work, I think it'd be really helpful. Thanks again for the great vids!

    Hey Jake, been following since 2011 or so. I like this series and the fact that you are actually doing it in a way that can walk people through modding their bikes. However, I did notice something in this video. What you are referring to as "decel ignition cut" is actually a fuel cut when under decel. It's actually pretty common among both OEM and aftermarket ECUs. Also, just an FYI, the reason it took so long to flash the first time is because you are having to flash an entirely new OS (similar to windows, but serves a different purpose) onto the bike, whereas your later flashes are just updating values stored in the ECU. Also, I don't have the software package you are using, but I'm going to make an educated guess, based on the values in the map you were using that it is just a way of altering the factory map. Oh, and I hope you saved a separate copy of your original tune, 'cause it's always nice to be able to go back to square one if need be.
    Anyways, keep up the good work, I enjoy your videos, so thanks for putting in the time and effort to produce them.

    I have a question about your kid's mini jeep in the background;
    Did you put that image of a motorcycle rider in the mirrors to teach her to look out for riders while she's driving?
    That's smart.

    I just wanted to say thank you for the video I think that was extremely helpful and I did not know a lot of that I really appreciate it I was looking into buying a power commander but if there are better Alternatives which I did not know about I'm going to look into those

    Jake,
    Thanks for this video I have a quick question. In order to flash the ECU does the bike need to be completely stock? I purchased my FZ07 with a Akra exhaust and hasn't been tuned to my knowledge. I do not have the stock exhaust to reinstall, what do you suggest?
    Thanks

    That bike was just floating across the screen so it must be really simple and easy to tune😀😀😀

  • @Osprey1994
    @Osprey1994 Před 7 lety

    Every flash tune kit even on sale is about $70 more expensive than a PCV. I don't personally think PCV is the way to go. I chose to go with tuning through 2 Wheel Dyno Works and it cost me $289 compared to $405 for the full tuning kit you bought.

    • @TheGardenSnake
      @TheGardenSnake  Před 7 lety

      +OspreyBravo18 The flash tune kit is $340, the PCV is $355. Not only is it cheaper but it far superior.

    hey mate in all those places you used Wd-40, petroleum jelly would actually better especially when you put grease on the exhaust gasket .

    So I understand you can remove engine breaking and adjust thermostat with this but then youre just downloading a powercommander map so the fuel/air mixture with this ecu reflash is the same as it would be with a power commander, right? Maybe, I'm missing something. What happens when you add the exhaust? How will you get the reflash map to consider both your air filter and exhaust? Another power commander map perhaps?

    • @alexb5275
      @alexb5275 Před 6 lety

      Yes, you’ll use a different power commander map for different exhaust mods /air mods. The benefit with this setup over a power commander is that you have much more versatility and reliability.

    I got the power commander V and the auto tune on my fz07 took 1 hour to install it was very easy.. and it gave my bike much more horsepower. I don't see any limitations with it though. but I'm also not a mechanic lol

    • @TheGardenSnake
      @TheGardenSnake  Před 7 lety

      +CruzinMoto New bike ECUs are weird. At certain rpms and throttle positions it can flip from closed loop to open loop. This throws piggy back tuners for a loop (no pun intended). Also I can remove top speed limiters and make changes to all kinds of other elements.

    • @cruzinmoto
      @cruzinmoto Před 7 lety

      Jake TheGardenSnake yeah I don't have that limiter option on my PCV.. why didn't you get a fz07 before me? lol I could have gotten this same ECU haha.

    finally someone to follow who is like-minded with fz07 mods. Right now as far as performance mods i have a full akra carbon exhaust and im going to grab a hord intake as well (also considering the DNA stage 2 based off of your recommendation) . I will def be getting this tuner....my question is where and or how did you download the maps, Im by no means a mechanic but if theres a youtube video on something i can be a brain surgeon lol thanks in advance!

    Hey Jake, I just bought a used FZ 07 with an M4 slip-on already pre-installed. The bike acts a little weird sometimes and I think it might be due to needing an ECU flash. Where did you download your fuel map from?

    • @masonkilgour1
      @masonkilgour1 Před 6 lety

      Mike Bienvenu does the flash tune kit come with the wiring harnes or do you have to buy them separately?

    • @therealrealshocker

      @@masonkilgour1 yes, it should come in the kit

  • @Blitz6804
    @Blitz6804 Před 5 lety +1

    Apparently, I bought the wrong kit... I got the bench mount instead of the permanently wired one. Oops.
    Anyway, I'm trying to download off the power commander's website for the stock exhaust and DNA air filter, but their downloads seem to be broken. Any ideas? I'm eventually going to get my exhaust installed, but it's not there yet.
