Believe me when I say, 90% or more of managers out there in industry aren't that way. He's the type of manager that makes the best manager because he understands it all and can speak to it in depth. I really liked that town and Montpelier and Archbold's Sauder Village and "The Barn" restaurant. Man, when it snows up there (lake effect) it really puts 'er down! My dad worked for a cast iron foundry that was electric powered. I worked there a couple of summers and whenever the power cut out, the power company would call them to tell them when it was coming back on. I was there for one such event. They had to rig up a fork lift and series of chains to be able to dump the furnace manually since less than fifteen minutes after the power cut it was starting to solidify in the crucible. If it had gone fully solid, it would have been multiple weeks of downtime. If you ever get the chance, a tour of Caterpillar's plant in Lafayette, IN is another good place to see. 20 years ago, they were building an engine there that used a Chevy V8 as a starter and had a radiator that was around eight feet tall. The foundry dad worked for made the custom high-moly exhaust pipes for that engine. The center pipes were around 100lbs per cylinder, where the end ones were 140lbs :)
