    Apple: "we believe in a truly wireless future"
    *one month later*
    Apple: DONGLE DONGLE DONGLE DONGLE DONGLE
    Update: y'all need to chill. It was a joke. Don't take it seriously. The new MacBooks are amazing. What I said has nothing to do with wireless USB ports or the fact that I use a floppy disc. I didn't say anything about USB's and I don't use cd's anymore let alone floppy discs. Chill.
    2nd Update: making a joke doesn't make me an apple hater. Making a joke doesn't make this review biased. It's not even my review. Making a joke doesn't mean you need to complain in the comments. I love apple products. A lot. So much my friends make fun of me for it. It's a joke. If you didn't think it was funny, just scroll past it. I respect everybody's opinions, but some of you are freaking out over a joke. It's not offending you. My joke didn't kill anyone. It's sad I need to specify this.

      @caseysoper6576 Před 7 lety +3

      Felix Johnson 1. Not complaining, the new MacBook is amazing 2. It was a joke 3. I never mentioned wireless USB ports

    • @felixjohnson4078
      @felixjohnson4078 Před 7 lety +5

      Ah got the joke. But what does Apple believing in a wireless future have to do with dongles.

    • @caseysoper6576
      @caseysoper6576 Před 7 lety +2

      Felix Johnson I just mean like... the new MacBook doesn't really follow that vision. You need adapters to plug your phone in.

    • @felixjohnson4078
      @felixjohnson4078 Před 7 lety +3

      You're still going to use wires to use your phone. But yes MacBook owners will have to use dongles for a little while until things adapt to USB-C.

    This would've been perfect if they just added an SD card slot, HDMI port, and at least 2 USB-A 3.0 ports.

      and a 4K option for the display. 4K laptops already exists, and have specs that blow this thing out of the water.

    • @obedchattergoon2780
      @obedchattergoon2780 Před 7 lety +10

      CraveQube SD card slot, yeah. Apple shouldn't have gotten rid of that SD card slot. I don't know why they did.
      But the old USB A 3.0 ports and the HDMI ports ... nah, good riddance to those. USB C is the future and hopefully this move Apple made would force other computer and accessory manufacturers to take USB C seriously.
      I really don't agree with Apple's decision to remove the SD card slot, but I actually agree with Apple on putting USB C ports only.

    • @ladiddas
      @ladiddas Před 7 lety +9

      Samuel Chattergoon Yeah, but HDMI isn't going no where, it isn't an "old" port, and most accessories for PCs use USB-A. There are few accessories that use USB-C, so that's why.

    • @obedchattergoon2780
      @obedchattergoon2780 Před 7 lety +4

      CraveQube HDMI isn't an old port, but USB C is a newer better port. Therefore, there is no reason whatsoever to keep the HDMI port and produce HDMI accessories.
      Also, it's not Apple's fault that other computer manufacturers chose to keep USB A. For example, Microsoft could have added USB C ports on their Surface last year. Even if they couldn't do it last year, they could have surely done it this year. Why haven't they? Google has USB C on their Chromebook Pixel, HP has USB C on one of their computers I think. Why aren't computer companies taking USB C seriously? Why is USB C only being taken seriously in phones?

      I tried out the Touch Bar today at Best Buy for the first time. It's pretty amazing! It's very smooth to the touch and the icons are very colorful and easy to read. I generally use Pages often and some of the functions aren't always easy to find. The Touch Bar instantly brought up those functions and that sold me. I tried out Safari Tabs and I will say the while the tabs were useful, they were a little small to view. Other than that, I'm pretty sold on it. Makes the other Macs that don't have one look terribly obsolete.

I'd sell my backup drive and get a USBc one and for my DSLR I'd just buy a small SD Card adapter for those accessions I need to sync. What I don't like however is the excessive starting price of all the new machines.

    As always, Apple create beautiful laptops and there are plenty of impressive things with this one such as the form factor, the keyboard, the larger touch pad and crazy speed on the SSD. I think many people forget what a huge difference upgrades to the drive can make in every day use. It might not show up on the Benchmarks when you render a scene or push your CPU, but when you start your computer, open new programs, copy files etc it will definitely feel snappier than the previous generation.
    I'm also impressed if it is true that the battery will be 1 hour longer even though the battery size has shruken by like 25%.
    Regarding the touchbar. I think for any kind of "button" it is useless. I rather use keyboard shortcuts to open bars, archive, delete etc. However I'm sure it will be useful with things such as sliders, timelines, browsing etc.
    I didnt notice that they made the ESC-button part of the OLED screen. That's one of the most scarier thing of this computer.

      i have an older one to, no adapters necessary, yes its a little slower but my bag is actually lighter than this new gen, because i dont need any dongles to weigh it down :).
      Apple will probably not allow it to run the next OS upgrade to increase sales of newer machines and dongles.
      Now is the best time for competitors of Apple to hit Apple hard by increasing their build quality customer service looks and value..
      I think other than greed and thinness and ego, Apple is hurting because it alone builds osx capable machines, so it has no competition to drive it to truly be competitive and innovate, so it has become a dictatorial monopoly and stagnate with no concern of what it's consumers that's pro consumers want and need, the mac pro, macbook pro and canceling the mac mini quad, all reflect this.

    The Reason why magsafe 2.0 used to disconnect so easily was that if the charger wire was hanging down the table and in case somebody walks by and his foot gets stuck in the charger, it would bring down the whole laptop off the table. Therefore it was designed such that the magsafe would come out easily if somebody pulled the cable unintentionally leaving the laptop undisturbed & safe.These new chargers would bring down the whole laptop from the table as they don't get disconnected easily from their port.

    Nice video! But we really need to be more critical of APPLE now that this product has been brazenly released without adequate ports and non-upgradeable SSD like the Mac Pro Base model. They should have smoothed the transition by adding a couple USB 3.0 on each side and an SD Slot with Mag safe on both side, That would have been KILLER!

      I agree, and to present this as the pro range - which I would assume is for professionals - does make you wonder whether they really know what their consumers want. It looks extremely sleek and beautiful but if that comes at the expense of having to bring more dongles, I find it extremely ironic. Been a huge supporter of Apple products but the iPhone 7 and latest line of Macbook Pros are only convincing me to make the switch. It's a "I really hate to, but I have to" scenario.

    • @edawg792
      @edawg792 Před 7 lety +6

      Non-upgradeable SSD/memory is nothing new, the previous generation of MacBook Pro was the same in that regard.
      As for the ports; Apple has always taken the position of the company to force change in the tech world. They did so when they removed the floppy drive from their computers, and when they removed the CD/DVD disc drive from their laptops. They also had a huge hand in the industry's movement away from Adobe Flash and adoption of HTML 5 as the new video-streaming standard, by not having pre-installed Flash on Macs, and having no Flash support on the iPhones. Apple uses their market share to force companies to move on to the new standards. In this case, that is USB-C. Other technology companies will be forced to accommodate the move to this new universal port as the ubiquitous standard. The need for dongles will be all but gone. This is not an easy position for them to take, because the transition period will always be somewhat difficult. But the end-result has always been progress. In a few years, almost every laptop will have adopted USB-C as the new and only USB standard, and Apple will be able to have most of the credit for this evolution.

    • @Tigerex966
      @Tigerex966 Před 7 lety +1

      usually one port at a time not all at once, excluding macbook air and one port macbook, of cours.
      So usually they kept some old ports like ethernet firewire audio in and out sdcard along with the new ports.
      But with the macbook/pro which had numerous current ports they just said forget all of them at the same tim,e save the headphone jack for now, this should frustrate users who now have to buy their dongles and makes what would be a empty bag with just your notebook and camera now have to add an sd card dongle, etc, usb stick, ethern dongle, , but there are some good docks avai lnow.
      I personally think Apple should have just included a small dongle with all of the ports they took out for a limited time, especially at Mac Pro's current high price.
      They removed the cd drive specifically because of greed.
      They wanted to force you to download your music from itunes, for which they get 30% margin for keeping a compressed cop of someone else's music on their server.
      They took out DVD players and did not put in bluray players for the same reason they wanted you to get your compressed SD/HD movies only from the itunes store.
      Thinness and production cost savings was a by product of that removal, as was less warranty claims for bad optical drives.
      And more itune sales of cds and SD/HD movies.
      They also created a market for a matching external dvd/cd for those that had to have one, way overpriced.
      They did not lower the price of any computer and pass along the removal of optical drive savings.
      Headphone jack removal will allow them to sell more dongles and licensed lightning headphone accessories, which had no reason to be if they kept the headphone jack.
      Most reviews say headphones sound worse and have less power with the added dongle, not to mention the ugly looks of a dongle wires.
      I predict ipads and ipods and than macs will follow with losing the headphone jack, and Apple will make millions licensing lightning (really just USB) to other manufactures.
      They knew perfectly well that all iphones would need an adapter to work with the new macbook pro, and whether you buy an Apple branded one or not, they get their cut.
      They also knew they could have added more than 16GB without sacrificing battery life, as an OS can cut off an unused memory chip, but than they want to introduce a 32GB one later and soldered of course, only available built to order by them, they have this all planned.
      This was the reason for no sd card in ipods, pads and phones, and ludicrous $100 upgrade prices from 16-64-128, when it only cosat them a few dollars at most.
      It also makes you want to upgrade to a new device sooner and or pay for more icloud space.
      There is no excuse for no sd card slot period, even fanboys agree, other than more Apple profits.
      The 2port macbook pro, only has one free usbc port when you are charging with the other one, crazy for it's price.
      Believe it or not I still miss the ethernet, battery remaining indicator, HDMI,magsafe (saved my laptop more than once), status light for sleeping on/off, and IR port for remotes.
      But of all of those, sd card slot is just crazy followed by magsafe (so you dont waist a valuable port just for charging, HDMI (4k would have been great for a clean hook up straight to the tv (but than no need for Apple TV or an adapter:( ) ethernet, that's the mini thin ethernet to full ethernet, because ethernet in Pro faster, more secure than wireless.
      Sorry for the rant, just had to release it now I'm fine.
      I must say like most Apple (Made in China by Foxxcon and cheap labor ) products, the Macbook Pro is one fine looking Machine.

      DetroitBORG Weird. That never happened with me....but I have an "old" (bought one year ago) sturdier and heavier MBP A1278 model, so maybe it moved but I didn't notice it. 😊🙂

    I use both Windows and Mac, both are great imo, ROG Zephyrus for gaming, Macbook Pro for study sessions and editing.
    Love them both so damn much, Windows and Mac can coexist, and they do compliment each other well.
