i bought 1 last year for less than $400. it was described as for parts only on ebay. according to seller, the only issue the unit has was blown speakers. upon receiving the unit, i discovered that the laptop was almost in mint condition. no major dents or scratches, display was excellent condition, battery life is still normal. when i tested the speakers, they sounded normal. i also checked inside to see if there are any signs of liquid, none. i think it was a very good purchase. many are saying about the issue with the video cable and keyboard. not too worried about it. in the event i do experience it, i might just have to try and to the headless macbook or i could just swap out the keyboard and display myself.

I still have mine. I bought the 2.9 version with the 560 pro, 16gb, 512gb ssd brand new. I replaced the battery myself. It is now running my CZcams studio. I can easily take it and do video editing, web development, and pretty much anything I need. Is it a little slower than the new machines? Sure! But honestly, this is still a good machine.

I bought my MBP 2017 new. It was a base Model with AppleCare +. It was a great computer at the time but the battery started swelling and off it went for repairs. When I got it back I found they had replaced the keyboard and the trackpad at no charge. It's now 2023 and the charge count is only at 51. I checked with Apple to see what the trade-in value was and they only would offer me $300. But I think it could sell for around 700.

Thanks for the kind words. To answer your questions, the 15” models are generally going to have performance improvements over the 13” models. Especially if you work with photo or video editing. And also, the 2018 models made a decent jump in performance, so if you find one for close to the same price or maybe a little more, go for the 2018. Hope this helps. Good luck on your hunt!

Not sure if anyone stumbled upon MacBooks (Pro) that do not have displays. I did. I got one that's 2017 MBP 15" (when it still had its "head" - now it's headless), 16GB / 256GB w/2G Radeon. It's like a Mac Mini that's in a keyboard/track pad form factor. I have never used anything Mac and I got this just out of curiosity. For about USD150, it's fully working, and I have it upgraded to Ventura. With a monitor that has USB-C input, it's not that awkward. But now I know why there were so many complaints about the keyboard...it really sucks! And 3 days into my journey of MacOS, I hate that the mouse up/down scrolling is reversed!

It’s always a good idea to test things out fully before buying, but there’s a little bit of luck involved in the long run. I’ve been using a 2016 15” at work since it came out. Zero issues with the flex cable. But I just may be lucky. Thanks for bringing up the point, and thanks for watching.

It’s fine. I was just saying it would be a hard decision between the 2017 15” and 2019 13”. I’d personally go with the older 15. Or save up a little more and find a 13” M1 Pro or M1 Air.

Is it really that important for people to run the latest OS? Is it all about new features or security concerns? There's only a little fraction of apps that don't support some old systems. I'm running Mojave and I'm totally happy with it. I can't understand those people who try to install Monterey on 2012 macbooks.

Right now (depending on where you live) I’d expect to pay between $350 and $500 USD for one of these. Obviously the lower the better, because if you get over $450, you might want to look at a M1 MacBook Air.

In my opinion, the one to go for is the 18 inch as it has the quad core for 13 inch and 6 core for 15 inch if im not mistaken. But really, all 15 inch are great.

Absolutely. I’m just finding the 2017 to be at the “sweet-spot” right now for price. The 2018 is still priced too close to perhaps a M1 MacBook Air. I’ll keep looking for a ‘18. Thanks for watching!

The 2017 was a 15 inch (not 16). And the 2019 you listed looks like it might be a 13 inch. If that's the case, I would choose the 2017 15in with 16gb ram. The only benefit the 2019 might get you is maybe one more macos upgrade down the road. But that would not be enough for me to choose it. The 2017 for $550 is a good deal, and likely a better machine than any windows laptop you could find for that price. Thanks for watching!

Go with the 2019 NOT the 2017!!! 2017 uses DDR3 RAM and 2019 uses DDR4 MUCH faster!!! Also 2 years newer so will get Apple OS support longer. In other words more future proof.

I don’t think that’s the case if it’s the 13” model. He mentioned the 2019 was an i5. Those still use the same 2133mhz ddr3 I believe.

Save your money. It would be alot better to buy a used m1 for less than 1,000 then to pay 4 or 5 whatver that this goes for. You may have to sacrifice the screen size but your money would be better spent then to buy a 7 yr old laptop. If you can afford to pay a little more. The new Mac’s are like night and day compared to these 2017/18 models that were the worst Apple has ever produced in terms of issues.
