Sorry, but what Ben did here was horrible. He was literally disturbing Lola. I understand that it's been difficult for him, but that doesn't make his attitudes any less stressful.
I think Lola's death will have a massive impact on Ben to the point where he develops bulimia because there's a new storyline on the cards for him in the next few weeks. But some people haven't noticed that there's been a few hints in scenes relating to Ben not eating enough already.

I think this shows the exact reason why Ben should not be the soul guardian of Lexie. Everyone thought it was disrespectful to Callum and Ben. I thought it’s not about Callum and Ben it’s about Lexie and he 100% of the time hasn’t been a reliable parent. And that is what is needed for Lexie a reliable strong parent figure which Ben is not. He loves Lexie no doubt but he is not what Lexie needs full time.
You can feel for Jay - he has been through just as much trauma as Ben in his life, but nobody seems to recognize that, nor the fact that he is so stable. Lexi wouldn't agree but Callum and Jay would be much more stable for her in the next few years ahead

BUT these characters are not real people, they're fictional characters made up by writers. The real question is why have the writers decided, only since he and Callum got back together over the last few months, to turn him into a character who always seems to be losing it and comes across as weak all of the sudden. They even got viewers to feel sorry for him, partly because of his pig of a dad, his hearing problems and then the sob story when he got raped. @eeperson Yeah. Ben is almost like an anti-hero (let's put it that way). He is not a character like Jay or Callum. And that's a fundamental part of the character. So I find it curious that some fans tend to pretend to be blind about this. I still like the character, but as I said here before, I completely understand who doesn't like him and who has come to dislike him. The character is really very tiresome, and he never seems to progress. And that's the writers' fault. And they put one trauma after another for him. So it's misery after misery. The excessive focus was also one of the things that drove people away from him. And as you said, it hurt the characters around him.
Has anyone ever thought that because he lost Paul that the thought losing Lola has sent him into his behavior. Because Paul died he doesn't want to think of Lola dyimg. He couldn't save Paul the love of life so in some werid twisted way he thinks he can save Lola his best mate / baby momma. And him not thinking of it has him thinking of trying to save her by keeping her ive alonger.
