Man, do I agree 100%. It's such a perfect cast, such a beautifully crafted movie and such a missed opportunity. The story with Carr at the center -- as you suggested -- would have been so much more compelling.
i watched kyd in 2020 and rewatched it early this year, leading into nights of researching everything about the murder and the beat generation. to my knowledge, the movie is based off of allen ginsbergs fictionalization of the story called bloodsong, which i only realized when i read bloodsong. the romanticization makese complete sense now that you talked about his nambla associations, the quotes r so disturbing.
Appreciate this discussion about the story..the movie was so good but left me so confused about the events. the way Kammerer inserted himself into Lucien's life was something the movie should have focused on if the director wanted to give an honest portrayal of the events. And the comments about p3d0ph111a from Ginsberg... Yikes. Should've picked a better POV than Ginsberg

Breaking into somebody’s room and watching them sleep isn’t exactly healthy behaviour. There are few of those who dispute Carr’s claims but if 50 people agree on the same version of events versus a group of 10 people on something else we’re inclined to believe the former if that makes sense. Plus it really did seem like a self defence case given how he killed him,but that’s just my two cents.
