    I guess I'm not a lurker anymore. 😅 I've been consistently commenting on videos since your husband went into the hospital. I have to be honest I needed those videos. You made me feel less alone. My husband was in the hospital a couple days after yours for different reasons. It was a hard time for our family, but being able to feel weak alongside someone else made me feel strong.

    I found the tip about letting your page rest to be true even with Crayola pencils. The last page I did with nothing but Crayola, had that issue. I was doing a really dark blue night sky and I thought I wasn’t going to get the result I wanted, thought I was done. Moved on to another area, then for some reason went back to the original area later and lo and behold, I was able to get more color on and got the color I was going for. So, I totally agree with that tip being needed for ALL your pencil sets, whether using nicer better quality sets or if you are using a budget set. LOVED your reminder once again, that layering works better for ALL sets, not just oil based. Been saying that to others for what seems like years!

    I remember you mentioning letting the pencil color rest and cool a little while after I started coloring!! I do this all the time and that little trick makes a huge difference in the picture and the way pencils behave!! I still have a patience issue but I'm working on it. So excited about this set but I'm still working with other sets as well to learn the process. Thank you so much for your time, teaching, and dedication to our hobby!!

    Wow a cons video! 😳 Talk about transparency! ♥️👍🔥I wish other companies and corporations would be like this even with drugs and food, clothing etc... Clothing... Dang I can see a lot of companies losing business and being forced to change practices based on lack of ethics. Slave labor is so common among fast fashion companies. Man what would the world be like if it were more honest in it's dealings? I guess we could dream. 🙃

    I'm okay not having light fastness for less serious artwork so it's not a biggie to me. I used and still use Crayola for my work and save my Faber Castell for serious work. Especially since I can't replace my FC being poor. Lol we scrimped just so I can have those. I'm a light handed artist so I definitely have patience. ♥️ It's preferred I get better consistent blends.

Most coloring books are not printed on toothy paper and copying to quality paper is a rare option for me. As excited as I am about these pencils I'm beginning to wonder if they are a good fit for a coloring book hobbyist (who's willing to learn to lighten her hand🙂) on a paper budget.

    Hi, I love the honesty so much! You are always such an honest reviewer but being able to make a videos addressing changes you would make is so refreshing to see. I love the new color coding system and the labeling you implemented with the gold edition. My main con is the order, I understand it was done in order to group like family's and then the pastels/ jewl tones are separated to find then more easily. That said there is just something so satisfying about a rainbow order. I wish there was some kind of identifying band ( like derwent and the different types of pencils) to make it easy to find the pastels/ Jewl tones but allowed them to still be organized in a more rainbow ish way. Regardless of this minor detail the product is amazing- congratulations:)

    Lori. I can't thank you enough for being upfront in your reviews. When it comes to art supplies, I can't think of any person I would trust more than the products you recommend. You don't overhype and you've been absolutely candid in moments when it probably wouldn't have benefited you in the short term to be so. I was doubtful at first about the Prismacolor New York set, but when I made that purchase it was exactly as you said. I was a little doubtful about purchasing the Star Joy original 120. But I did and it really outmatched all my expectations. And now I have no doubt at all about the Star Joy Gold being none other than what you said it would be. So I'm waiting to be one of the first ones to order when it comes up on Amazon.

    These are budget pencils - lightfast is not an issue in my mind for basic coloring. I also prefer a grayer black because as a person who can lay down shadow way too dark too soon, I feel this grayer black is a safeguard. And I love oil pencils now - at first, I did not, but I love them now. I have many good whites and black so no biggie, so none of these are cons for me.

The tip about resting your pencils makes a huge difference! • @travisnobleart
    @travisnobleart Před 2 lety +1

    Okay, that trick about giving the work area a break is a game changer. I never considered this could be a thing and I thought I was going crazy that I was using a wrong paper because the effects I applied were not acting the same as on a previous art work. The difference? I took much more time on the previous work, so that could be the issue. Perhaps we have to let the microbes work on it a bit to get some of that texture back. That's my theory.

  • @nicole_silvers
    @nicole_silvers Před rokem

    I was looking for an oil based set of pencils because I have never tried them, and I have wanted a set of Faber Castell Polychromos for a long time, but since they're expensive I decided that I should look into some more budget friendly options and I came across these pencils! Lucky me, right?! Anyway, I had my eyes on several different sets but hadn't decided which one I was going to get. But when I found out the order in which these pencils are set up, I was immediately sold! I mean, it's every colorist's dream to have color combinations in groups of 3 already laid out for you! I just think the order in which the pencils come in is such a wonderful and thoughtful idea! And of course there are many other color combinations you can achieve with these pencils other than the groups of 3 that are laid out for you, but it's just nice to already have some that you can just grab and know they blend well together. And I already have a set of Prismas, so the black isn't an issue at all! I just put these pencils in my cart on Amazon and they're only $25.99! Plus, you also get a 10% off coupon! When you add them to your cart and go to your cart, if you look to the right side of the item there will be a little box that says "clip coupon" and you will get 10% off, which is $2.60, so these pencils only cost $23.39 with the coupon! I can't hardly wait until my set of Star Joy Gold are delivered!!!

    • @ColorMyWorld
      @ColorMyWorld  Před rokem +2

      Keep in mind, if you have never used oil pencils and are used to Prismacolors they will feel much different. Oil pencils do not blend like the creamy prismacolors do. They layer on top of each other to create the new colors. With that said they are much better for details than Prismacolor pencils. Keep the tips sharp. While they have a point when you get them they will need additional sharpening to bring out their true colors and feel. The points are created for shipping not using. You will see when you get it. They mix wonderfully with Prismacolors too.

    • @nicole_silvers
      @nicole_silvers Před rokem

      @@ColorMyWorld Yes, the first thing I do when I get a new set of pencils is sharpen all of them and then swatch them! I watched your video where you talked about layering, and I've also watched a few other videos to learn more about using oil based pencils. I'm definitely looking forward to not having to sharpen them as often, especially for detail work! And I'm glad to know that they work well with Prismas! I have a set of Kalour macaron pastel colors and I used one of them as a base color and tried going over it to do shading with my Prismas, and it didn't work out very well! It seemed to make the Prismas clump. But maybe it wasn't the pencils fault, it could have been something that I was doing wrong, but I'm not sure! Anyway, thank you so much for the info and tips! I truly appreciate it!

    So exciting :) Here is hoping it is worldwide. My birthday is Monday. This will be a terrific birthday present to myself if I can snag a set. I hear what you say about black. We hear about the white pencil issues but black has been overlooked. I recently found my square brutfuner did a great job in actually creating a nice matt black background. Usually I have to resort to acrylic paint. Which is not always ideal when there is a lot of intricate small spaces to deal with.

    If you are used to Prismacolor, then it is very hard to work with oily pencils. I am used to FC Polychromos, THE best in my opinion, but now I know how to work with other oily pencil brands. I am using the original Star-Joy pencils since a week or 3 or so and they are great to work with, a bit thin to hold, as I am used to Polychromos, but I know how to work with these kind of pencils so, yes, they are great.
    It's the same with grayscale coloring, waxy pencils like Prismacolor don't work so well on that as oily pencils do like Poly's.

      I just got a set of Chinese oil (Deli) and I need to learn how to use them properly. It’s amazing what they can do on the paper used by Kirby Rosane’s books. It’s almost as if the color is ink flowing off the tip and being absorbed by the paper as you build layers. If you push down hard you lose that effect. I see people in the reviews who use them like wax pencils and they complain that the oil pencils are too waxy! They don’t blend they complain and I want to tell them to try layering but I’ve got to learn how to use them myself too.
