  • 💡Strength training for rugby doesn't have to be limited to the gym.
    🏉 Here are some simple strength movements that can be done on field without any equipment!
    When it comes to strength training it’s okay to be creative and have players work together to get a strength stimulus! If you find yourself without gym access these exercises can come in handy.
    ⬇️⬇️⬇️ If you do have access to a gym, this 12 week S&C program is tried and tested for rugby players ⬇️⬇️⬇️

    ℹ️ You can turn the exercises in this video into a strength circuit as part of on field training. This is ideal if working with a large group of players. 20s of work across the whole body means this won’t become a “conditioning” circuit, and players will typically get between 5-8 reps if the tempo of the movement is executed appropriately.
    ⏰ 20s ON / 40s OFF (rolling 60s clock)
    Station 1: Squats
    Station 2: Nordic Curls
    Station 3: Press Ups
    Station 4: Row Variation
    Station 5: Pallof Press
    Station 6: Single Leg Squats (10s e/side)
    💡 Why not complete 3 rounds twice a week, then finish with:
    ⚡️Partner Drags RACE!!!!
    👉 Put the players in pairs, one person working from try line to try line.
    👉 At every line on the pitch (22m, 10m, half way, 10m, 22m) the player working shuttles back to the last line they were at, returns and then continues until they get to the try line.
    👉 Once a pair reaches the opposite try line, it’s time for Player 2 to go!
    👉 Player 2 takes Player 1 back in the same way described above.
    ⚡️ All this is done again other pairs of players in the team!!!

    🗣 COACHING CUES
    NORDIC CURLS | “Heels to Hips”
    (As the player descends, he must actively perform a leg curl for full posterior chain activation. Of course, the player who is holding his leg needs to stay strong and not leg the toes come off the ground.)
    🙋‍♂️ Coaching cues shouldn’t be generic and so I’ll only leave one. However, the above phrase for the nordics is something that makes the movement more effective and I found a lot of athletes benefit from that one cue.
