Thanks for all of your advice I think I'm going to have to do the same as you go back and pick that one up 👍🏻
Great review, and beautiful footage-awesome lens! Thanks 😊
The electronic stabilizer on the EOS R is also a low key hidden gem when used properly. This camera has been a delight to use and am glad i never listened to the negative online chatter. That lens is a thing of beauty!
Any video in post can be stabilized. And gets a crop. I just hope canon to jump into the ibis game and also keep the electronic stabilization why not.
you're my favorite youtuber
Awesome video and great tips and perspective. I just sold 3 older EF lenses to get this (since I have the RF versions now) and I was ready to pull the trigger and apparently this lens sold out and backordered everywhere, including Canon direct here in the US! I’m so jaded! Lol
This is the first video of yours that I've watched but you earned my subscription. Thanks for the info. I'll be purchasing this lens and the R5 body when its released. I do photos and videos so this will be perfect
If you had to choose between the rf 50 1.2 or rf 24-70 f2.8. I have the 15-35 rf 2.8 & 70-200 2.8 rf. Which would you pick between the 50 & 24-70? I do photos and videos and plan to upgrade to the r5
@@lfshotthis 50 1.2 because that's the range you are missing.... And it's the sharpest prime....
I think this is a great lens in my 3 days of experience. BUT depends on which type of video you are going to shoot.. If you are going to shoot something that you need to change subjects/focus from time to time - you will feel the focus breathing which is noticeable bad for me..
still good for my other types of video..
Nice video 👌🏽 image quality in photo & video is just insane 😱
new video on it coming tomorrow ;)
Monkeypixels great 👍🏽
I still don't understand why so many people make the size and weight out to be virtually prohibitive. A DSLR with a regular 24-70mm f/2.8 weighs about as much as an R5/6 with this f/2 and everyone has been using that DSLR setup for ages. I mean, I get that lighter and smaller is better and that the size and weight of this thing is a downside. But I don't believe it to be anywhere near the issue some people make it out to be.
Must be people that never used Canon until their mirrorless lineup lol
5:07 - Focusing system - wooohoo!
6:00 - Manual Focusing - yay!
Enjoying the editing ;) Would you consider a shootout video of this lens and the new 24-70 and also the Sigma 18-35 on the R? A lot of us R users would love to see that :)
Hey great video by the way!
I have a question: I have recently purchased the R5 and the new RF 24-70 F2.8. Although it is a great lens but something is still missing as I normally shoot with prime lens. Currently thinking if I should switch it to the 28-70.
New to DSLR video filming. Would the RF28-70 F2.0 look much better than the 24-70 F2.8? In your videos the blur and the depth of the video seems to be much better. Not sure if it's the editing or the 2.0 makes that much of a different. Thanks!
Nice to see some humor in your very informative video. The RF 28-70 is not stabilized. Would it work for indoor college sports? Thanks!
Thanks!!!
witch are your favorite lens for filmmaking?
Hi, thanks for all of the great info. Was wondering if you used the Eos r and this lens combo on any kind of stabilizer and how that worked ie: gimbal or glidecam? My thanks.
Hi, thanks for this informative video. I'm actually thinking about selling my 50RF and 35RF to buy this 28-70. I shoot weddings most of the time and hate switching lenses all the time.
ROBERT YU hi! Did you already purchaised? I want to buy it also!
@@alexeicristea5816 Did you eventually purchase it and did you like it
If canon releases a 20-70 f2 I’m sold
Actually if you are using Sony camera 35 + 55 + 85 1.8 are 932 gr and canon rf is 1430 gr you can add 24mm f1.4 to the Sony side and still be lighter then Canon Lens. Nice video btw and very impressive and innovative lens from Canon.
Informative video!! Will the gimbal carry weight of this lens for videography? Appreciate the response!
Great review here. Quick question - how does it balance with the C70 on the RS2?
I don't mind using this RF 28-70mm f2.0 because majority of the time I will use this on tripod for videos or photos. I stick with RF 24-105mm f4 IS for carrying and walking around len. I do have prime which is RF 50mm f1.2 for portraits and etc.
Add 85mm 1.2
Do you do handheld video with this lens? i have not tried it, but on my R5 i think it would be epic, i'll test it soon!
What gimbal are you using for the lens? Please do a video of the gimbal setup
Hi. Thanks for the video. Can you make the hlg3 vs c-log video please! Waiting for it since the hlg cine4 video! Danke :)
i have to say, this is making me want to buy this lens, i was shooting on my R with the Ef 24-70 and i hit that adapter control ring soooooo many times, its kindof in a bad spot for having it accidentally hit it and changed my iso :(
DygonProductions You can set it up so the control ring only works when shutter is half pressed. I switched to this method and never had an issue accidentally messing up setting by the control ring. Hope that helps.
What about the breathing. You didnt mention that. The f2.8 24-70 doesnt suffer from autofocus breathing unlike the 28-70. Is that an issue? I just cant decide which to get....out of those two. If i was to get only one, which one?
Focus breathing with video ?
Hi did you by any chance use this set up on Ronin S ? if yes was it hard to balance and how hard was to hold it ? if anyone was using please give me some feedback thank you
Nice video, but what about some really important stuff? Like focus breathing, huperfocality, color fringing, is it extends when zooming, wich gimbal can handle the linse so big? You sad, it from filmmakers point of view...
MonkeyPixels for me, this is critical points to decide, do i need to buy this lens or not and you just forcing me to wach other reviews ;-)
What gimbal u use for the eos r when with this giant lens?
R5 + 28-70 f2 perfectly fit on Ronin RS 2 without any extra grip or L plate with camera?
Hi any chance if you had a video on EOS R with RF28-70 with zhiyun Weebill S? Weare thinking of buying the lense but not sure if it fit
Thank you
Is there an adapter that would allow me to use this on the bmpcc, which has an ef mount?
Whats your opinion on the APS-C size EF Lenses (with adapter) for the EOS R, since the 4k is cropped and I heard that even 1080p cropped is sharper then the Fullframe. Advatage would be less weight and super low prices. But no shallow field of depth.
@@damiencooper but afaik you shoot in 4k and that is cropped on the EOS R?
You should get battery grip with lens, makes difference.
I thought you liked big stuff!😁
Damien have you any plans to review the new Weebill S, I know you didn't have much luck with the original Weebill Lab.
I bought it 2 days ago. The weebill s. It not compatible with the eos r and 28-70. Cant balance it. I sold off the gimbal today
Funny that u mention Sony , regarding feeling and weight.
I had the exact same experience when I tested a Sony cam.
They just feel plasticky and cheap. 2:48
Can u share what camera strap are you using
And for me the real game changer is vari ND adaptor. No doubts.
@@damiencooper i dont need them if ND on my scales)))
Hey mate great review! Quick question, does the RF 28-70 fit and balance on the weebill lab s? Without removing eye piece?
Thanks for the quick response! Do you think the RF 24-70 will fit the weebill lab s without removing eye piece?
Monkeypixels thank you! I will make that purchase! Subbed!
He likes the Boker
Great review. I only miss the breathing aspect as a video lens. Cause that’s what differs foto from cine lenses. And the price is more like a cine lens...
agree, totally missed it in the video. There's next to no breathing on the lens though
@@damiencooper I'm assuming you mean next to no breathing? I just picked this up after returning 15-35, then switching to 24-70 and ultimately decided on the 28-80 as love my bokeh
@@chrisjohnsonfilms correct!
@@damiencooper you use it for most of your video these days? Excited to try it out this weekend
@@chrisjohnsonfilms just uploaded a video I shot entirely on it. Going live in 40 min ;)
Please clarify... The video samples from this lens, was the video footage examples here of this lens taken from the Canon EOS R or from the C200?
EOS R
@@damiencooper Thank you. The footage is incredible! I am blown away! Whoa! Have you been using this lens a lot since you got it?
You sell it to me man! Thanks!
Did you have a chance to use it with Zhiyun Weebil S (R5 and 28-70)?
no, but I would guess it's too heavy
Ive bought the eos rp and this lens
Arthur Lima I’d be interested to hear how you’ve found this particular combo? Something I’m interested in!
@@kingweddingmedia I first bought the Eos RP + Rf 35mm, I´ve decided this because I knew a Eos R II would appear soon, so I thought the eos rp was a cheap choice to wait for a good future camera from canon with rf mount. And man I dont know, I was not liking the photos, I dont know explain, the color was horrible, a lot off noise. So I decided buy this lens to test, for me was like a investment because I know a good camera will come from canon soon, and you will not believe, the lens make the photos so so so so better that I am thinking not changing my camera anymore, I think the lens is the most important thing. We usually want a great performer camera but with this experience I am thinking is the lens that makes a big difference.
Arthur Lima 100% the lens is more important than the camera - obviously the camera could be a limiting factor but shove a great lens on a decent camera it’ll be great, shove a rubbish lens of a great camera and the pictures won’t be good.
I’m heavily invested in the Sony system but have always loved the canon grips, and enjoy using their cameras, but with having so much excellent Sony glass I think if I was to get a canon at some point, I’d want a high quality lens to make it comparable.
@@kingweddingmedia the New canon lenses are great ! This Rf 28-70 are giant but Man the image that come from this its an absurd!
That lens is a beast and can be the one lens you need for everything, shame it weighs a ton 😅
Hast du Focus-Breathing beim Videofilmen erlebt? Danke dir!
What's your take the RF 50 for video?
Never tried it
I am not so sure I understand propely. It's about manulac fucusing. So you can't using ring on this lens to focus manually hmm (thinking) as in every lens?
You can. But instead of physically moving the elements to focus when turning the ring the ring send a signal to the lens and it turns mechanically
@@damiencooper But instead of this, at the end you use a ring to change the focus, yes?
Any good suggestions for an ND filter for this lense?
Freewell variable NDs
@@damiencooper thanks, it's a hard size to find a quality nd for!
michael mc carthy definitely. I think the freewell are the best
It’s too bad the super 35 crop of the C70 will turn this into a 40-100mm, this would have been a stellar combo.
I would like to see a Canon RF version of the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 - or at least some wide RF prime lenses, there’s 0 options for a fast 24mm FF equivalent
Das ist leiwand... bro.
You funny man :)
Are you filming in 4k?
D B not with the EOS R, no
Boker.
Does the ronin sc able to handle it??
haven't used it but would bet money on it that it won't
@@damiencooper is there any lens in the replacement of 28-70.. With same capabilities bt also can be handled by ronin sc
@@ankitkushwaha7174 Don't think so. 24-70 would come the closest but this will probably still be too big and heavy due to the outgoing zoom
@@damiencooper okay.. Anyways.. Best wishes from India 🇮🇳
No IS a con?
Adrian Photovisions of course it’ll be grat. if there was IS. But it’s not a deal breaker. Check out our model shoot Monday playlist. All shot handheld
@@damiencooper Ive been away from Canon for 5 years, intially Sony, then Fuji, but with the R5 on its way, I want to come back! Perhaps with IBIS, the 28-70 without IS will be a mute point?
@@adrianphotovisions2308 true! I would certainly help a lot
No IBIS in camera and No Stabilization in the lens with a $3k price tag makes this Lens unattractive. There's other lens out there that
have image quality that is in the same ballpark or close to the RF 28-70 that have stabilization with a lower price tag. I like the lens but its
too expensive...
No, there are non and you haven't use this lens too, or the R with the EIS enabled.
Themi P What??? First of all I own the EOS r 2nd, the “EIS” as you call it, is properly labeled as Movie digital IS which is only available in video mode, that option isn’t available for photos. It’s very obvious you didn’t do your HW before commenting or you don’t own either the EOS R or the lens. If you think the RF 28-70 is worth $3k without stabilization try using that lens with the EOS R and try shooting photography with a shutter speed below 160 and tell me what your results are.
Hi it is very expensive but curious to know what lenses you're talking about, as I'm very tempted by the RF 28-70? Also, its a pretty fast lens so surely stabilisation isn't such an issue, IS is good but what happened to holding the camera still. The main drawback for me is the size of the thing compare to the R.
Teddy Tedd this last weekend I was Halloween party photographer with few options on lenses with 2.8 max aperture but I ended up using the RF 28-70mm 2.0 the all time surprisingly, shutter speed 80 most of the time iso around 3200-5000 pictures were resolved beautifully.
From around 500 pic I never deleted one cuz the lack of sharpness or noise problems.
I was surprise as well, I was thinking of getting rid of this lens but after this results I’m keeping it, specially since I don’t have to swap lenses.
I carry this lens for about 4 hrs not an issue cuz of the weight or size, never bang it against the wall or other objects, I know is crazy right!
The light was very low in half of the situation specially cuz was at night time after 7pm indoors / outdoor of course not flash or anything just the EOS R and the 28-70mm.
I guess the extra weigh of the lens give the stability need it for sharper images.
And I did purchase this lens at $2350 brand new USA version, still an expensive lens for me since I’m not a full time photographer I love photography but not doing this for a living.
Hope this information helps you.
@@seken2nun You're right! Teddy. I tried the 28-70 and the new rf 24-70 . I bought the new one with IS because of the shutter speed minimal of the 28-70.
Vulgar !!!
Dude what about the horrible focus breathing
