I DID IT!! My RF 28-70mm f/2 L just came in a few days ago.
I was on the fence between this RF 28-70mm f/2L and the RF 85mm f/1.2L, but since I already have the RF 85mm f/2 IS, I can wait and get the 85mm "L" version later.
This RF 28-70mm f/2L has replaced my EF 24-70mm f/2.8L and I'm loving it!
95mm filter thread was my main reason for holding off (and the cost of it), I can't find an ExpoDisc larger than 82mm and the 95mm filters are more expensive.
But it's completely worth it! Did a couple corporate group shots this week where everyone needed to be 'socially distant' and loved using this lens on the EOS R5.

When I got my R5 I wanted the EyeAF and that's about it. The new lenses look amazing but I was happy with my old EF lenses. And with the drop in filter mount for the EF with a variable ND filter in it. I now leave the variable ND filter in. I no longer go into HSS on my flashes as I just ramp up the internal variable ND filter. So now I get 1200watts out of my 1200watt pack by not going into HSS by just using the internal Variable ND filter. It's been game changing on setting up shoots and having more power from the flashes. To go to the RF lenses I'd lose this ability or have to buy external variable ND filters for ALL my RF glass. So far, I'm sticking with EF glass. And the old EF85mm now focus's awesome with the eyeAF of the R5.
The 28-70 also has some focus pumping when using it with video that I don't like that can be seen when videoing if you swing the camera. So for now I'll stick with EF glass. And the weight wasn't an issue. I use the R5 with the Canon 200mm F2 with the drop in filter adapter and variable ND also. Amazing. And heavy. LOL
The same negatives that got me to primes are there with the 28-70. A prime still beats them at every focal length. Is it better? Yes. But it still isn't as good as a prime would be.
The biggest negatives of the 28-70 for me was
    1. Lose ability to use Canon adapter with internal variable ND
    2. Focus Pumping
    3. If I really want great bokeh I'd prefer a prime still
    4. Expensive

I currently use the EF24-70f2.8 adapted technically it is super, however handling adapted on an R5/R6 seems to be too long and the weight shifts to the front a lot and it looks awkward. However the Photos are great, the speed and accuracy is perfect. the RF24-70 seems to be better on the edge and the contrast wide open, but only on the screen when rising shadows. If you need the 2.0 and are willing to take the 28-70f2.0 weight you need to go for it sparing some primes (there are nearly no Pro ones currently 28 or 35). If you don't have an old body anymore, sell the EF lens and buy the RF either 2.8 or 2.0 depending on the needs.

How much of an issue is the focus breathing on the 28-70? I push in and out a lot for camera movement, I’m worried that the focus breathing will be extremely distracting when I’m physically closer up, moving in and out.

Hi. I just bought R6, if you could buy just one lens will you get 50 1.2 or 28-70…. I been really after 50 1.2 for this magical look but came across 28-70 and starts to have doubts now

Thank you for this video... awesome production (both video and audio), I really enjoyed this! Great advice as I'm about to invest into my first mirrorless camera and I'm eyeing ether the Canon R6 OR R5 and trying to figure out an additional lens to start with, over and above the kit lens.

I was about to buy R5 + RF 28-70 2.0 + RF 70-200 IS 2.8... After your video I made some calculations and changed my decision.
    Now I'm thinking about R5 + EF 24-70 2.8 + EF 70-200 IS 2.8 v. III + 85mm 1.2, because its the same price but I will get 1 lens more, and its the Beast 85mm at 1.2 apperature.
What you do you, what should I do?!

Thanks for this video. For me as a hobbyist, the difference in quality vs the difference in price is too small to consider the RF 28-70, that much is clear to me now.

As you have both R5 and the C300 sounds that your debate should be more like should you even have or purchase the RF 24-70.... keep the RF 28-70 for the R cameras and the EF for the C300... and you can use the EF also as backup for the R5
