Why Alexis Mac Allister Might Win Liverpool The Premier League

- With both their title rivals dropping points, Liverpool rose to the summit of the Premier League this weekend with a win over Brighton. But with their squad stretched to breaking point and repeatedly falling behind in games, it's been the emergence of one player - at both ends of the pitch - who has kept Jurgen Klopp's championship dreams alive.
Alexis Mac Allister, despite a very weird start to the season, has become Liverpool's most important player. Adam Clery looks at his season so far, and analyses exactly how far he can take them. - Sport
If Mac Allister was as bad playing as a 6 as some people have said he was Liverpool wouldn’t be in the title race rn
Yeah, massive exaggeration there from the guy. He was decent as a solitary sitting midfielder, nothing special.
He was definitely decent at the 6 once he got settled (and when Endo went off for international duty), but it’s clear that he shines as an 8/10 going forward more than his role as a 6. He’s just a Swiss Army knife though, he can do it all.
His stats were better than the likes of Rodri and rice while he was playing there. People just had it in their head that he's not a 6 so they hated on him
I was more surprised at some people thinking he was an actual 6 and because of that him and Endo can't play together which everybody should've known it was the opposite of that instead
@@jeewa7114Some people were quick to judge harshly because Liverpool had some defensive wobbles in the first 4-5 matches, and the Macca did not look like a classic destroyer. Once he settled in, Liverpool won a lot of matches with him as a 6. Now they look even better with Alexis as an 8.
Mac Allister has quickly become my favorite player. He's not only incredible, he also makes it look like it's the most basic stuff. Football really is second nature to him.
@Just_Dave1 Alexis McAllister is one of my favourite players
He plays like how Thiago would've when he was younger I feel like lol
It's no wonder he's the player Messi looks for when playing for Argentina
We've now got a spine that make everything look so easy. Allison, VVD, Trent, Mac Allister and Salah.
@@CJSteib He literally plays like thiago minus the turns where he more utilises body strength to hold the ball. So disappointed we won't ever see a thiago + macallister duo playing together on the pitch.
MacAllister was dominating games as a no 6. During Asia cup when Endo was gone and the few games before Endo cemented his position in the lineup MacAllister was superb. The 4-1 win against Chelsea, 4-0 against Bournemouth springs to mind.
He is an insanely gifted footballer who has an immaculate understanding of the game. He aced the number 6 role and he is acing the number 8 role now. The idea that he sucked before Endo's introduction to the team is unfounded and focusing on his worst game for liverpool very early on is unfair.
Mac Alister has always been solid when he joined, but since Szobozslai having a strong start early in the season no one noticed his role in the team despite playing in the 6. He gets my vote for player of the season for Liverpool.
I would still pick Van Dijk as my player of the season. Mac a close second.
@@sanyam1997 it's either Macca or Van Dijk. But considering Macca is in his first year and made a massive impact on the team he edges it
could also be endo though, only 16 million yet one of the best DM's in the league
could also be endo, only 16 million yet one of the best dm's in the league, being so consistent and allowing everyone else in the team to thrive
Coming back here after the Sheffield United game - video has aged well!
Mac Allister was ok since the start. He never looked lost. He's been one of the best playes in the league since he changed position, but he was nevee bad
I'd agree. He has some horror games (wolves was another). But he wasn't that bad as a 6, just wasn't amazing
Fair statement. No 6 isn't his position but he stood in for the club.
Am here after Macca scored a beauty against Sheffield United
What a player!💎
TBF, Endo + Macallister has been an amazing midfield pairing as they complement each other so well, doing stuff the other doesn't and vice versa. Endo is like a human hoover, and Macallister is like a conductor of an orchestra.
In a Japanese interview, Endo said his job is to run like a dog and pass to Macca who then assists 😄
Macallister is what we wanted Tiago to do
@@Jess_Pea Figures.
Running for 90+ mins, day in day out is no mean feat. Your sharp mental acuity and thinking speed goes down the more tired you get so creativity often takes a hit. Endo has that doggedness in him, trademark of the Japanese fighting spirit, and is therefore better applied at winning the ball back, even with his very good short passing skills (which is even a better plus to his skills since he is able to get rid of the ball after winning it where he is often positioned under pressure). Him being so good defensively is also why the FBs and even CBs sometimes, make roaming runs into the opponents box so often.
Who compliments them? Is it Curtis Jones or Szolobslai?
@@kibetkeiyo Depends on the team your facing. Curtis Jones may compliment them more when you are facing possession based team because he can just massively dictate the play and hold onto the ball whereas Szobozslai is probably better at breaking down the opposition -> could be better when facing low blocks.
City fan here who’s vehemently defended their dropoff, I think if Liverpool had gotten one of their main midfield targets alongside Mac Allister they would already have the league in the bag. Klopp deserves this one and I would not so secretly be gutted for him if City manage to snag it again. The lineups he’s found success with this season are INCREDIBLE achievements. Come the end of the season trophy haul or not the whole squad should be so proud of themselves. Forget the club loyalties and tribalism, I’m so glad I get to watch football like this. Makes me feel alive ⚽️

@@edparpa3582Hear Hear is the correct saying
Liverpool would still have league in the bag if they got Diaz spurs goal, Martin handball & Doku Karate Kick.

I remember people laughing when lallana compared Macca to luka modric 😂. Now Macca arguably the best all around midfielder in epl
I never comment but you said that macallister sucked as the 6 for Liverpool and I'd like to know what you were watching, now he wasn't amazing but he was playing at the highest level in a new team in a position he's not played so considering that and the results in this period was very good I'd totally disagree with you saying he sucked, we all knew he would be more effective as an 8/10 or in a double pivot but klopp saw the class and it's improved his game, adding defensive strings to his skill set, now as an 8 he dominates both sides of the ball
He understood the 6 eventually but when Endo came in he opened up Alexis
@@fayesouthall6604 mac getting hurt opened the door for Endo...the rest is history and hopefully historic at the end of this campaign
The way he was finding Salah with almost every through ball against Brighton was so crazy.
Carved them up.
I feel like that stint as a number 6 has really helped him grow into the player he is now. He can pretty much do it all and dominate the midfield
I feel like the Newcastle away game was the major turning point. Endo was thrown in to a losing side that had 10 men and bossed it. that game gave Klopp the confidence that Endo was more than capable of starting in the prem. without that confidence , Mac Allister continues to be played deeper more often and with Trent being injured , the creativity of Liverpool would be severely diminished.
If Liverpool win the league mac Alister has to be considered for PFA,, van djik and mac alister have been the best since November
Endo was our best player against Arsenal and City at Anfield imo. The rest of our players failed Endo by not winning those games.
@@drunkviggo7263 ENDO was amazing,,but did you watch Van djik and Macalister too
Endo was the best in those games imo bro. If Mack had been the best we would have won. We didn't. We dropped points in both of those games. Mack is going to have to raise his level even more for us to win The Prem.@@benjaminndiawo606
Macca is key 🔑 the more decisive player. Masterful at progressing the ball and doesn’t ever put a foot wrong
It took me a few minutes to realize this is the guy who would tell me ten interesting things about a movie, much respect.
In my view you are pretty wrong when you're saying that Macca sucked at 6, it just took him two games to settle there and he was excellent. Another issue is that he will be missed and better suited to play more upfront, more liberated from defensive tasks. His intelligence, calm demeanor and winner attitude closer to the rival's net it's great.
Yet Macca carrying the ball from the back was really vital in that 6 period and his ball winning assets were great too. So there is no need to invent anything to actually praise his current 8 role, that BTW in his terms, is playings in the same match for moments as a 6, others like an 8 and qhen fully attacking assuming the 10 task. In fact I'm liking too that he is willing to arrive to the little area like a flase 9 when hi finds a gap, he actually neeeds to improve his socring with such a great strike and touch.
Aging beautifully. Top analysis
He is an incredible player and has developed a ton since the world cup. The best in form Argentine at the moment

The argentinian Messi
Is Messi Brazilian?
no i swear he was australian@@Quiteveryrandom
Where do think the real Messi is from? China?
Meixi@@yichengyi
love it
I think the biggest compliment I can give MacAllister is to point out how much Messi clearly trusts him. The second goal in the WC final and the Martinez miss it’s him and Messi playing a fast, one-touch two-man game. I’ve only ever seen Messi have THAT much trust in Xavi, Iniesta and Busquets.
Watching that WC when they played that two man game made me feel like a child watching tiki taka
Can’t wait for the Endo!
It's endo game
He’s the guy we thought Thiago was gonna be for us
Imagine Thiago and Allister playing together?
Pure orgasm
Tbf to Thiago the one time he pulled along run of games together we nearly hit the quadruple
He was in 2021/22 . Too bad he can’t stay fit
Nah, Thiago was/is world class when healthy. You don't have to put down one of our players to praise another. Macca has been putting in these consistent, stellar performances since Endo has taken over the 6.
@villainova exactly, can't stand so-called "fans" who do that.
Being injury-prone has nothing to do with actual ability.
A fully fit Thiago walks into this team.
Adam I've been watching your videos in recent months and ti be really honest, you've made me love tactical football more than ever and I appreciate it. I always wait for your videos and it makes me smile when I understand all what you're saying that you've made me understand these past few months. so thank you...
don't get me wrong the other workers are also amazing but you are like an evolution to my love and curiosity of understanding the game more. so thank you.
Well this aged a treat. That Sheffield United goal 😮💨
Towards the very start of the season, macca was a little lost out of possession in the 6, he was good in possession and helped progress the ball a lot. As we were getting into the busy December period, he started to dominate in the 6 off the ball and was winning challenges and winning interceptions for the team. Then he got injured. When he came back & endo was at international duty, he started to dominate even more as a 6 and gained a lot of confidence. Now as an 8 he’s playing at a world class level. But I disagree that he was ever shocking as a 6. He wasn’t convincing for the first 5-6 games at most and even then it was only out of possession. This guy was the only player selected to play out of position due to his genius. We thank you for that macca and we love you. ❤❤ go win us the league. YNWA
He’s turned into one of the most lethal midfielders in the league. The kind of balls he’s been playing into the box are Trent levels of great
Nope Maclisster play like xavi, Trent is more like KDB, relies heavily on crosses. Whereas Macca is bit like Xavi as he relies on those lifted balls behind the defense or threading a perfect through ball.
"here Liverpool, pretend to bid 110 mill for Caicedo, they'll match the bid, and you can have Mac for 35 mill. Deal?"
Liverpool already had Macca they paid his release over a month before the bogus Caicedo bid ⛳
Mac Allister is a gift that keeps on giving!
Channel is amazing for someone like me that loves watching Liverpool but may not fully understand all the tactics in soccer... as an American Basketball player we dont grow up learning these things lol.. thank you for your insight
This is a team.Not a one man thing.All work very hard.YNWA.
have only just came across this channel, these videos are quality
Great point about Trents absence
Brilliant. Insightful, data packed and pant-wettingly funny.
I subscribed because the set,great job 🎉🎉🎉
That's a really great point about Trent's absence working in Macca's favour. It felt like we need to have other players get the chance and moment to dictate play and control things. We get a different way to solve problems and different reading of the game.
Brilliant analysis
Tbf he was right about those first few games. But then he became decent at 6 eventually, and after coming back from injury to replace endo as 6 during Asian cup, his stats were matching Rodri and rice and he became a near world class, if not world class 6. Played 6 Vs Sheffield tonight and wow, world class at it. Jürgen has really made him into a different beast
This is aging like those fine wine straight from Argentina.
the greatest argentinian alive
Your point about TAA is an excellent one. I think Bradley should keep his place and Klopp needs to work on how Trent can fit into midfield without hindering Mac Allister or Endo.
What a goal against Sheffield United.. Screamer
Man... that jump cut killed me with laughter!
Didn't suck at all as a defensive midfielder, he did a good and often excellent job in difficult circumstances.
Now he's playing in his best position and he's showing himself to be one of the best players in the world.
An absolutely brilliant player.
McAlister ended up being pretty decent as a 6. Not ideal, but you know he does a good job there.
damn 5 videos in the last few days, lads are on it recently
Signing of the year!
Macca is everything we thought we were getting when we signed Thiago. The guy is a football genius. Look forward to the Endo video.
Waited for the breakdown
I am eagerly awaiting the eventual Endo video. At 9:10 I was actually thinking that Szobo was thinking a few steps ahead here. I think he saw that Núñez was already making a run and pulled his defender with him. Now Salah had lots of empty space in front of him, and Alexis was unmarked in a much better position to make that pass. I might be reading too much into it, but it's possible. As for the power on Szobo's pass, I honestly think he just really likes the sound when he kicks with full power lol
I'll be honest. I was a bit underwhelmed with Macca coming in. Good player, great price, I thought. Nothing that gets you off your seat. I saw him as a good player and maybe a bit of an all-rounder like those that left in the summer. Might have been because Brighton, while being an attack minded side, doesn't really need all that much creativity for their football to be effective.
And while he had a stuttering start, he did improve a lot fast in the no. 6 position. So I was happy with the signing.
But man, when Endo came into the team, Macca has exploded. Liverpool being a controlling side has really brought out the best in him. He has been hands down the best midfielder in England since new year, basically, probably in all of Europe.
Not only does he have amazing creativity, his off the ball work and defensive play are also world class.
Liverpool went from the worst midfield in the league last season(Everyone was just running on empty after some amazing years together) to the best this season. Endo is amazing, Szobo is amazing, Jones is amazing, Elliott is a game changer and Macca is incredible. Even Gravenberch, who has had his ups and downs this season, has shown glimpses of the talent he possesses.
Everyone in the team is a massive goal threat and it's hard for teams to handle. Well everyone except Gomez. 😅
Not just him, the whole midfield has been brilliant this season.
Szoboszlai, End & Mac for less that Chelsea paid for Caicedo.
Excellent recruitment.
Also Joe Gomez has reinvented himself really very well to double pivot from inside full back. He has added physicality and been really quite neat on the ball. Klopp et al. have found a way to balance things very well. If Joe Gomez and MacAllister are injured it will be hard for Liverpool to play such good possession football.
His last second cross to Darwin to secure our late winner against Forest is something not in this planet.
This is another marvellous through ball he made.
I'm here for why endo is amazing video....
Can’t wait for that Endo vedio
That goal against Fulham was pivotal moment in my opinion, he just unlocked confidence and improved greatly after that
proved you right last night.
“This is an assist so good, I had to take a pregnancy test after seeing it” 😂😂😂
This guy will always fine a end win for Liverpool club
Signings of the season surely.
I rate you so highly so I will let it slide but to say Alexis sucked in the 6 is almost unforgivable. He had a dodgy game or two whilst adjusting but after that he was terrific in the 6!
But in the 8... WOW.
What a player
I'd argue that the time that MacAllister spent playing as a 6 has made him a better player, now he's more rounded off, better at defense but still keeping that offensive edge intact.
As a stats nerd I like the heatmaps. It might be interesting to see two players' heatmaps superimposed (using different colour palettes ofc) if you choose players that complement each other, like Macca and Endo
Great player.
From Hendo to Macca. Huge upgrade
Hitting harder after last night's game
Bloody love Macca I do!
He has been sensational
After today’s goal I might agree!
Here after he scored a banger against sheffield
Do one on Szoboszlai pls!🎉
This aged well ;-)
Mac allister is definitely my favorite player
Who is here after the Sheffield United game.
Of all the Simpsons references you could’ve pulled, none could’ve made me as happy as this one 😂❤
Mac Ballister ! 😊
Yes bro, Adrian still in Liverpool squad the last time i checked 😂 Henderson in Ajax regretting the move 😂
1:30 no, Adrian didnt leave
an all rounder maestro. put macca anywhere and he'll get the job done. i could say he is liverpool's luka modric and gundogan combined
Mac Allister is the player I most worry about keeping in the future. If the new manager does not hit the ground running then I worry about the following summer transfer window, he has to be on the radar of that bloody Perez.
the complete midfielder
Saying he sucked at CDM is so unfair and just patently false. He did really well in an unfamiliar position and has just excelled in a more familiar attacking role.
He worked at it.
Mac is everything I hoped Thiago would've been. Maybe not as technically gifted but physically he's so much better.
Welp.... He scored so well predicted!
Deep level analysis well done 👏
Endō, Endō, he's our man! But yeah I am also worried about what happens when TAA comes back.
Mac Allister is a very talented footballer : Klopp made him even better now both in defence and offence
Nice stuff. But you should ask your neighbor to turn down the music.
So what would you do with macca when Trent is back? He will eventually (even if not straight away) replace Bradley again
Endo the. MacAllister enabler!
Macca is the best transfer and player of the 23/24 season
the best signing of the PL
So wat aru saying is endo is going win Liverpool the league?
Might want to edit last night's goal in to the video! 😃
We dont even need to slag off caicedo and enzo to praise macca, he looks like a veteran 30 year old controlling our midfield. 35 mil was an absolute steal
Wish we stopped mentioning them two
The red card was not "harsh" it was wrong and was rescinded
When Trent is back Mac Allister will just move over to the left side of midfield and play inside Robertson who will bomb on like Bradley is at the minute and Trent will step into midfield from the right the same way Gomez is off the left. Perfect
i dont think mac allister played a bad game yet, ive watched ever single liverpool game this season, he is just now player closer to goal, he is obviously gonna help attack more
