      @@WhiskeyTangoFarms I use puppy pads for the first 3 days and clean it out daily. Then wood shavings until 3 weeks old. They then go to the outside coop to grow out. Other than my dogs, the quail get a lot of attention. I love to think the run up to me because they love, but it is because I have food, snacks, water. LOL!!

    I started using the perforated rubber mates like you using in you tool box drawers or silverware drawers. Work real well and can be washed off it's not to bad. I buy it off of e Bay by the 20ft rolls.

      That's interesting haven't seen anyone use those yet. but seems like a good idea with lest waste. We do end up composting the towels and they break down good.

    I started with a clear plastic tote not sure if it was the same brand but the quail chicks kept falling over near the edges as the was a dip all the way around so I went to tractor supply and got a 100gal rubber made water trough
    Lots of room when I’m don’t it will go to my wife’s red footed tortoise

    • @WhiskeyTangoFarms
      @WhiskeyTangoFarms  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah we have bought some a while back that were like that and we only use those once in awhile and only if we put pine shavings down in them.

  • @Banishedsoulsofficial

    I just use a cardboard box, reptile heating pad and full spectrum led.

    • @WhiskeyTangoFarms
      @WhiskeyTangoFarms  Před 2 lety +2

      I could see how reptile heating pad can work. Do you place paper towels over it to keep it clean? Only thing was would worry about is water shorting it out. How long do you keep them in this setup?

    • @Banishedsoulsofficial
      @Banishedsoulsofficial Před 2 lety +1

      @@WhiskeyTangoFarms I place a large puppy training pad on floor of the box with the heating pad under the pad. They stay in it 2 weeks it also has a bird net placed firmly on top,, then they go to a large brood pen I have outside. It is a covered coop with a heating pad inside incase it gets cold

      We use the heat plates by themselves. They work great. You do need to make sure you have the appropriate size one for the number of chicks.

    • @WhiskeyTangoFarms
      @WhiskeyTangoFarms  Před rokem +2

      amzn.to/3T8LZ1t This is the one we have. One tip I can give you is you need to make sure it sit as flat as possible and make sure the chicks can touch the bottom of the plate.

      @@WhiskeyTangoFarms oh my gosh thank you for such a quick response!
      Another question I have has to do with male quail. I plan on processing them once they hit 8-10 weeks when they’re big enough, but won’t the males start attacking each other before then? How do you keep the peace with males before you can eat them?

    • @WhiskeyTangoFarms
      @WhiskeyTangoFarms  Před rokem +1

      You can separate the males into a male only pen and they should be fine as long as they don’t see/be by any of the females.
