  • Peripheral neuropathy in the hands is when there is damage to the peripheral nerves. This can also happen in your feet. These 7 treatments for peripheral neuropathy in your hands should help with pain relief. More hand stretches & exercises: • Hand Arthritis Stretch...
Peripheral neuropathy often causes weakness, numbness, and pain. Stretches and exercises can help by improving the circulation and signal to the area.
To start off, moving the joints in your fingers and your wrists will help loosen up the area and increase the circulation.
Then some wrist flexor and extensor stretches will help with any tightness in the wrist and arm area.
Next, you want to strengthen the hand and wrist area. Make sure you are doing flexion and extension exercises to help increase the blood flow and give feedback to your nerves.
Finally, ending with a prayer stretch is a great way to open up the carpal tunnel.

My fingers are 90% recovered from numbness due to pinched nerve in forearm that healed naturally. Odd thing is the fingers and palm feel normal when cold but kinda prickly/sensitive when warm. Can they get better in time or is this the new normal? Im still amazed the exercises worked though.

Thank you - will these exercises help if my neuropathy is now pretty constant - I have been doing similar exercises for a while now and nothing seems to improve - is there a point where exercise isn't the solution? or just keep moving - thank you! You are doing a great service to help us with self care.

You're welcome. It really depends on what is causing it in the first place. So unfortunately I don't know that answer since I can't evaluate you, but movement definitely helps.

Thank you for your prompt response - I guess the fact I am a crochet maniac doesn’t help - I am wearing my splint which helps a little and taking more breaks - but I have so much yarn to use up - I need to crochet. Oh my!! I am going to look into massage therapy next - and will continue the exercises you show - thank you again

@@nancylapointe556 You're welcome. Have you tried any exercises and stretches for carpal tunnel syndrome? They might be worth trying as well.

I have neuropathy symptoms in my hands and feet. I have tingling and numbness in them, but no pain.......as yet!! i am going to see a neurophysiologist in 2 weeks for the first time, to determine the cause. Id there any chance of healing the damaged nerves, or is it permanent? I keep hearing and reading conflicting stories with regard to the prognosis.

This hurts and it feels like needles. I’m trying but 😢
What can I tell my doctor when they don’t believe me how I explain the feeling?
I keep being pushed around. I’ve felt this pain since my daughter was born, over 12 years ago…

I had to prick my ring finger for a blood sample a week ago and shortly after I started having sharp pain in the top of my hand. It comes and goes if I bend my wrist too far up or down. Could this possibly be a nerve issue? Thank you

YO Dr. Jo! Love the interaction and the humor. I am a 72-year old male, post ischemic stroke from 2014. I just found your site. That being said, I may be repeating a question from before. My situation, since all strokes are unique to match our humanness, I played folk and classical guitar. Now, when I play, my hand begins to complain (pain level = 7) within a few minutes (5-8), depending on playing variables, like capo, string thickness, barre chords and fancy foot (oops) finger work. My ask, any suggestions, references, referrals in Denver or expert advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks! I do have a few videos for artists and one specifically for guitarists. They might help as warm ups before you play. You can find them on my channel: czcams.com/users/askdoctorjo As for referrals in Denver, unfortunately, I don't know any PTs/OTs there.
