- This CSX’s unit ( CSX 5478 ) had autostart enabled and was starting up. I also thought it would be cool to show some of the internal components of the engine including the prime mover, batteries, and the air compressor.  I was granted permission to be on this engine. I also asked the crew if they could start this locomotive up, they asked not to be in the picture which I agreed too.
Every time I start one of ours I find the sound rewarding.

The sound of a failed startup will definitely get ya to wake up!

Never get that close to the main alternator/main generator when a locomotive is running. Rule of thumb is to not get close to it at any time. Especially in the electrical cabinet. With the amount of voltage and amperage contained in those units, you wouldn't know what hit you.

@@csxrailfanfoamer8118 Yeah, high voltage is nothing to mess around with. The newer road power is a little bit safer than our GP9s, with electrical not exposed. But it's still good to live by the rule of "don't touch"

I am surprised you are on site wearing what looks to be like running shoes.
I am not a CSX employee one of the crew members allowed me on the engines and I took several recordings, including that one. However, that’s one of the only few I can put on CZcams right now without getting them in any trouble.

That is cool but I don't want you to get in trouble for trespassing as it is technically illegal. I hope you got permission first because I just don't want you getting in trouble for something like that. But don't get me wrong the locomotive itself looks cool. I'm just looking out for you that's all

Good way to get the crew in trouble. They are not authorized to let you on the engine much less opening the access doors. All it takes is a CSX official to see this and crew will be in hot water, and you will be in trouble for trespassing
@@DanMeyer80 agreed I took several recordings and was warned not to post a lot of stuff on CZcams for a while, so it might be a few years before I can put the videos out, but this is one of the videos that you don’t necessarily hear the crew or see them.
@@csxrailfanfoamer8118 unless YOU have a signed liability waiver from the CSX you and the crew can get in hot water. The crew can get fired and you could get a hefty fine for trespassing it don't matter how long you wait to post your videos. Just a reminder from a 30+ year retired class 1 conductor.

This was a video way back in 2022. I have more just like it. I do not want to share a lot of them due to the fact that I might get the crew in trouble.
