Jennifer Crumbley is in hot water because she and her husband actually bought and gifted the gun used in the shooting to her son. She also refused to remove him from school on the morning before the shooting happened, even though the school asked her to take him home. Her husband will go on trial in March.

Thank you for covering this case. I live in Wichita Falls, where this happened. My daughter was a grade ahead of Lauren and was walking home at the same time. She was several blocks away, thank goodness. This shooting is def one of the most awful things that has happened here. Lauren's parents are truly amazing ppl and have so much love and support ♡
It's so sad to hear children recounting testimonies of being shot 😢. Also, I LOVE Austins random side explanations such as the reliability of sketch artists. I could listen to him for HOURS ❤. He's my favourite (Sorry Josh, you're awesome too though) 😊

I’m a local here in Wichita Falls, I was a senior in high school when this happened. This case absolutely rocked our community. I’ll never forgot how scary and traumatic this was for everyone involved. I felt a special connection to miss Lauren as we share a name, and I often used to walk home from school unaware of the dangers lurking. Kody deserved very bit of his life sentence and I wished the lowlifes who stole her memorial would have been punished harsher. I remember vividly when that happened, people were out looking and posting for it 24/7. I hope Lauren is resting peaceful, and I think about her family and Makayla often. This case hits home so it has never left me.
I am from Wichita Falls Texas to.I lived by lake Wichita and Jaycee park.I had never heard of this case before this video.I moved to Des Moines Iowa in 2011.That is where I live now.

I remember being taught in my Firefighting class that if anyone were to hurt you, try and remember major clues such as scars, tattoos, birthmarks, etc. to help identity someone even better
It's definitely easier to remember these things than facial features. I had to report a crime and by the time the police spoke to me I couldn't remember anything about the guy. Thankfully if taken note of the registration plate..

So I watched this this morning on Spotify. On the subject of guns towards the end, here in the UK (in my experience) if you want to purchase a shotgun you have to be a member of a gun club, the gun must be locked up at all time in a secure container that is usually attached to the wall. The police can come around at ant time of the day or night to check that the gun is being stored securely. My dad has a shotgun for grouse hunting, he doesnt keep the ammo with the gun itself. If he is going out somewhere to hunt he must call the police to tell them he is in the area and must call again when he is back home. I can understand people buying handguns for home defense, or shotguns for hunting but why do people need an assault rifle?

It’s not an assault rifle. An assault rifle is a fully automatic weapon. Civilians can only own a semi automatic. Only one round can be fired at a time. So I really don’t see what the problem is with owning an AR15. They are way more reliable than a handgun for home defense.
They are a bit misleading here a .22 isn’t an assault rifle and actual I’m pretty sure in the UK Rimfire .22 caliber semi automatic rifles are legal. If you want an AR of a larger caliber in your country it needs to be manually operated by a bolt or pump, etc. same goes for some US states as well.

Hey, love the podcast. Listen to all your episodes. One thing I wanted to clarify is .22 caliber rifles are not high-powered rifles. in fact, they are the least powered and smallest caliber available. There are cO2 powered pellet rifles that shoot a higher velocity projectile that you can in some states can be used to hunt wild game with. however, in no states can you hunt with a .22 caliber. Also, he was using an AR platform rifle. Yes, AR does not stand for assult rifle. Assult Rifles are a full auto rifle that the public can not obtain unless it is a pre-banned full automatic. These pre-banned rifles has to have been manufactured prior to 1994 when the Assult Weapons bann was put passed into law. These weapons are extremely expensive in the 10's of thousands of dollars, are extremely rare and require a form 4473 to be submitted for review to the ATF and the weapon can not be released until: an extensive background check is conducted by the ATF/FBI which can take several months to over a year before its approved. Then, only then, with the tax stamp and letter of approval, can the weapon be transferred. The NFA will send the dealer a copy of the stamp and letter of approval. Then, the transfer of the firearm can take place .The tansferr of these weapons are highly regulated and watched extremely carefully by the ATF.
This statement I have made does not make this incident any less tragic and horrific. My condolences go out to all who were involved. I can not imagine the extreme pain these families and survivors feel from experiencing such tragedy.

exactly! And that quite literally HAS happened. People have been shot and seriously injured this way.
The statements at the end are intensely heartbreaking but so very moving. My heart goes out to these families and those impacted by this vile thoughtless act.

The fact that residents of the US live in fear of being shot or their children being shot whilst carry out daily activities is devastating and scary as hell. Yes we have some of our own problems in the UK but never once have i feared being shot or my child being in danger at school. This is heartbreaking and who knows how to combat the issue. X
No we all don't. These situations are incredibly rare. You actually have a higher chance of being stabbed in the UK than being shot here.

I said we have our own problems here, stabbings do occur yes, but do we have mass shootings and deaths in schools and public places no we don't. We have had one school shooting in the UK in 1996. Stabbing causes harmand death of course but I certainly don't have a high chance of being stabbed doing daily tasks or being in public spaces and I have no fear for my child being in school

@@mariacherrington61920they do background checks on if you have committed crimes and if you’re a citizen. Very surface level checks. Someone could be suffering with mental health issues and want to hurt someone but if they have no previous crimes they would be allowed to buy a gun.

As an expat in Australia I love that guns are so much better regulated. You are required to do safety training, have police checks, you can only start with rifles and need to shoot at a range for 6 months or more and get recommendation from a range officer to apply for a hand gun, all purchasing of guns must be brokered by a licensed dealer, and you have to have a gun safe with seperate lock up for ammo.
Harder to get a gun, yes, but so much less worry about mass shootings.

I really just want to mention that you did not piss me off with the talk about guns. I too am a responsible gun owner and hold the same opinions you both do. I also believe that children should be informed about them and learn to respect them at a young age. (I am NOT saying children need to be firing them) I think children should learn that they are a weapon, meant for defense of self and others as well as a tool to attain meat for food. Outside of that, guns have NO USE and need to be locked away in a safe place.

It is truly sad that, at the time of this post, the longest and most upvoted thread on this video is about correcting the vernacular used towards guns. A group of amazing video makers and podcasters, talking about the tragic taking of a young woman’s life, simply reduced to a fight about gun terminology/ regulations. It’s all fun and games to listen to all the horrendous killings they’ve covered, until they say something you don’t agree with.

I am from Michigan and about 45 minutes from Oxford H.S. I think the school should have made him leave that day. I agree with the parents being charged/convicted, along with the school, being held accountable, too. I feel so awful for these families and those kids. I can't imagine what they go through daily.
Their half-assed attempt to send him home that day wasn’t enough. In CA (where I’m from) students in Ethan’s situation would’ve got hos backpack, locker, and person searched before going back to class. It was crazy that the parents refused to take him home, and the school failed to act on doing something more like assigning him to in school suspension.
Firearm ownership is not only a right it is responsibility that should never be taken lightly.
This is the FIRST murder / mystery podcast I have EVER cried listening to. truly heart breaking and senseless. God bless all involved. Especially the little girl that survived. I cannot fathom the lasting effects it has had, and will always have, on her.

the delphi murder original sketch looked so much like the suspect they arrested. they redrew it and i think it looks less like him the second time but there is a picture of him in his home where you can see the second sketch taped to his wall in the background. chills

Those storage safety laws are the same in Australia and the person responsible in regards ownership are responsible for any action with that weapon. The inventive is to have weapons stored correctly for the community's safety.
what a horrific way for a child to die. instances like this is why i don't understand why people are so against gun laws - there's absolutely no reason for someone to be in possession of an assault rifle other than to cause fatal harm to people. i hope lauren is resting peacefully and i hope her family and friends are doing as well as they can in this aftermath.

In the UK , because filming or taking photos inside a law court wasn't permitted, there was a court sketcher who drew the accused on trial. The results were usually hilariously unrecognisable, compared to them whoever drew that pillow face sketch of BTK was up there with Michelangelo.

Pertaining to the case where the parents got charged for that kids horrible crime… I said when it First happened on a CZcams video that the parents should be charged and everyone freaked out at me and calling me insensitive because “they lost a son too”. I’m like… are you kidding me?! I was actually getting harassed over this comment and had to delete it. But now, it seems I was not the only person to think that.

We have that law in Sweden to have the gun lockup in a weapon locker it looks like a safe and not all in Sweden can have weapons
