- Entering tonight, the Penguins were looking for the franchise’s second all-time perfect California road trip. Sidney Crosby’s wraparound backhand midway through the opening period got things started. Crosby is now on a seven-game point streak (4G-5A). Grundstrom answered back with a shorthanded goal later in the period. The 2nd period saw the Kings take their first lead of the night off a tally from Kempe. Lars Eller restored the tie with a shorthanded marker of his own, poking the puck off an LA stick in the neutral zone, making a nice move, and then wiring the puck top shelf. With the game tied, 2-2, entering the 3rd period, Jake Guentzel earned his fifth of the season, completing a beautiful sequence from Karlsson, to Crosby, and then to Guentzel. Fiala knotted things up again for the Kings, and this game was destined for overtime. After Bryan Rust’s first “goal” was deemed offside, the same trio of Erik Karlsson, Evgeni Malkin, and Rust went to work. A drop pass from Malkin led to Rust putting a wraparound goal into the net, concluding a perfect roadtrip for Pittsburgh.

Crosby scored his 557th career goal for the Penguins. Crosby tied Luc Robitaille [557 for the Kings] for 9th in league history with his 557th goal with one franchise.

I swear since karlsson has arrived he can still just put the goal on a platter for people and they just blow it every time… like it’s a pass so good and so strong it surprises them it was possible and they bungle it lol. He hasn’t been perfect but our guys have to get used to depositing those.

Ya know what’s funny, the eye test and every metric supported that that was the case last year too and everyone wanted him traded or shoved to the fourth line. He was shooting like 3%, it was an unheard of struggle with finishing. All the fans wanted him gone and Rakell given a statue. Now that the exact roles have literally reversed, I’m seeing grumbles about sending Rakell out of town. It’s such a joke

@@earthquakkejake9894 yep. I think Rakell is naturally better with sid but rust is good with both sid and malkin so I think it makes more sense to swap them. I mean rust won 2 cups on genos line and I don’t see why a line of him with smith and geno wouldn’t be electric.

Pens won but they win a lot of games playing like that.
PP is still awful. Furthermore the Pens don't seem to draw many penalties. Goaltending is average - at best. Still a win is a win. Kudos boys.
I’m getting real sick of the powerplay having that ONE good look that always leads to a clear and that’s it lol. Then again hey after last year the fact that they can gain the zone is progress.

Should not have needed OT. The first goal we gave up was just lazy by Hellberg, and he turned the completely wrong direction on the third. Glad we got the win, but I hope Jarry is back sooner rather than later.

bro what, hellberg literally carried and was the reason why the pens won. he ended with a .917 while this pens offense and defense where so slouchy the whole game. 33 saves/36 saves is insane for a backup. in my opinion if jarry was in we where losing this game 100%.
