GAME RECAP: Penguins at Rangers (04.01.24) | Crosby Clinches 19th Point-Per-Game Season

- Monday night, the Penguins made their second stop of their four-game road trip in New York City to take on the Rangers. Penguins started fast. Bryan Rust chipped the puck into the Rangers zone. Reilly Smith forechecked and kept the puck in, intercepting the defense's pass attempt. Smith dished it to Crosby crashing the net with speed for a one-timer. Rust picked up the rebound and scored 18 seconds into the game. Midway through the period, Kris Letang collected the puck on the offensive zone half-wall. P.O Joseph was on the point to collect the pass from Letang. Joseph picked his head up and saw Crosby waiting for a tip. Crosby scored the second goal for the Penguins. The score remained 2-0 until the halfway point of the 3rd. Defending the defensive zone, Jesse Puljujarvi stripped the puck away from the Rangers. Emil Bemstrom picked up the loose puck and went on a breakaway to make the score 3-0 for the Penguins. New York had an answer for the Penguins scoring two of their own late in the 3rd. The Rangers pulled their goalie for the extra attacker. Rust gave the Penguins some breathing room with an empty net goal. New York pulled their goalie again but this time Crosby got the empty net giving him 82 points this season. This is the 19th season Crosby has averaged a point per game, tying Wayne Gretzky. The Penguins beat the Rangers 5-2.

I always knew it was a long season but now I get it. Pens play possum so they can play playoff hockey a month early and make the playoffs hot. If Malkin and Karlson ever kick it in this team could be nasty. Stay healthy men.

I didn’t watch the game, but isn’t he one of the best face off guys for Pittsburgh? I’m assuming he got put out when they really wanted a faceoff win.

We trust dubas. Again the guys he brought in produce, ned is on fire right now. And Sid with tying waynes record of 19 straight ppg seasons, but Crosby did it all in modern era nhl where its harder to score. Amazing,

Once again Letang failing on that 2nd goal not covering his man
He's always done that. It's just that when they went back to back the Pens had actual defensive players, or a goalie, that could cover for him. Same in 2009. Letang has always made bad passes and decisions. It's just that when you win 3 cups, and make the playoffs all the time, people overlook it.
@@livetotell100 Bingo! Been saying it for what seems like forever, Letang has never been as good as people think. He always had flower bailing him out on all his terrible decisions and plays same with his line mates.

Try again. Pens goaltending and team defense was top ten until the very last month. Goal support (particularly PP) was the issue this season.
@@BradAlan72 LOL! Jarry supporters all say the same thing...Jarry's stats is Top 10 in the NHL, has most shutouts in NHL, etc. He's the next Patrick Roy to all you Jarry fanatics.
@@the12gaugeshotty Uhhhh, because theyre called statistics? It's actual math, my guy. And I don't think anyone has said he's the new Roy. If you look at this team's performance this year and take away that the goaltending was the problem then you just don't know what youre talking about.
