GAME RECAP: Penguins at Islanders (12.27.23) | A Night For The Record Book

- After a few days off for the holidays, the Pittsburgh Penguins traveled to Long Island to battle against the New York Islanders. Tristan Jarry took the net for the first time since December 16th. The 1st period was fairly straightforward for both teams. Neither team picked up any momentum or had sustained flow to the play. After a quick intermission, the Penguins came out with a new plan and dominated the 2nd period. Rickard Rakell started the scoring by driving hard to the net. His goal was followed by two goals from Jake Guentzel that were only a mere 12 seconds apart. Those first three goals were also on three consecutive shots. Evgeni Malkin followed that up with two goals of his own, tallying numbers 483 and 484 of his career. These two goals secured Malkin second all-time for the most goals by a Russian-born player. For the final goal of the period, Radim Zohorna whacked the puck in off of a rebound. With his helper on that goal, Kris Letang had his fifth assist of the period. This made Letang the first defenseman in NHL history to record five points in a single period. The 2nd period ended with a score of 6-0 in favor of the team in black and gold. Adding to their lead in the 3rd was Valtteri Puustinen blasting in his first NHL goal. This was also Marcus Pettersson's fourth point of the night, a career-high. The game ended 7-0 with Jarry getting his fourth shutout of the season.

What you should be concerned about is how bad the pens defense actually is. Sure Letang is a good player, but the whole defense needs to gel. Otherwise they will win 1 game for every 3 they lose.
Except they haven't won only one game for every 3 losses the entire season so that isn't true

amazing....Geno getting hot and Tanger on fire. Letang should be on the first PP unit especially now that he is scorching hot. Much better at feeding Malkin one timers too (compared to EK)
My man Rakell got a goal and an assist. Petterson, four assists. Guentzel, two goals and an assist. Malkin two goals. Letang, 6 assists. Amazing. Congrats to Puustinen for his first NHL goal.
Edit: Crosby's faceoff wins tonight was also outstanding.
That goal from Puustinen was a bomb. Loved watching him play so far.

bar a time of two. If not a sporting venue. I always try to use humor for the
unpleasant displays during a sporting event. We both know there were a lot
of Islander fans cheering his first goal. This guy does not taint the great fans
of New York. Islander fans would not condone this at all. Ranger fans as well!

Jake the Snake shot gold this evening. Everyone looked on point, so New York was just having an off night.

Wish the editor of the videos would figure out how to properly convert the frame rates. The gameplay is glitchy. Appreciate the uploads though, but could be a great improvement in how it plays.

I said since early in the season that he is a complete and utter softy/scrub and shouldnt even be on the club but they put him on the first and second lines (since Rust went down). That loser has hurt us so much. A competent player in his place all season and we'd be far better off.

He’s comparable to Brandon Tanev. Plays extremely hard and gets plenty of chances but never finishes.
