    Dan, Tek Screws are self drilling, available from screwfix and have a hex head. Much faster and simpler than cleco or having to pre drill holes.
    Well done, nice job and good to see you happy with the project again.

    Really enjoying this series, its going to look tremendous when done. I did a Golf 20 odd yrs ago, no roll jig, and almost no chassis or floor panels then either, so I totally understand how much work you are doing. You are a natural at the fabbing and welding, plenty been at it for years and doing much poorer work.

    So jealous of you being able to do all of that, and have the time to do it! I've got a 1971 Opel GT back at home, and it could do with a complete strip and sandblasting as well. I already bought an original engine about 3 years ago, but still haven't got the time to fix it up... I hope that in a couple of years time I own my own house with garage, that would definitely make things easier. Keep up the good work! Love watching the whole process!

Its interesting to see how all the typical rot spots progress over the years, had a lot in the same places but caught them early 16yrs ago when a also did a full strip down on my 1980 MK1 driver - though far more DIY lol. She's still on the road today coz the intervention.. Had to get someone else to do inner and outer sills 2 years ago though :(. Respect making it look factory!

    Unreal job Dan. Watching you do this has made me want to tackle some welding on my own project. I've ordered a sealy welder to get me started. Would you mind showing us or just letting me know what settings you have your welder on just so I have a starting point.

      Thank you so much for watching and for the comment James. Glad you enjoyed it! Awesome dude! Well worth it bud. You will save a fortune and the job satisfaction is amazing! So I am using 0.6mm Steel wire, 95% Argon 5% Co2 Gas mix, I have the welder on Low 1, Wire speed 8-9 for thin steel panels, and for anything a little thicker I turn it up to Low 2. You just have to have a play really. Playing with steel on a bench is totally different to playing on a car though. I am still working it out every day. Good luck though dude!

    Good work Dan, how are you planning to rust proof all the internal metal pieces, long term I doubt weld through primer will work,

    • @DanChambersDAC
      @DanChambersDAC  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you so much for watching and for the comment, I am using weld through as a temp measure. Planning on buying a wax system that goes onto the compressor and see if it can put primer through it first using the '360 degree fan nozzle' to get the paint everywhere before I go back through with the wax. That's the plan anyway.
