Time to start on repairing the shell. Having gained a little confidence in fabrication/welding. Just how much can I get done in 5 day's on the drivers side? The passenger side took 3 + Weeks to do.

MY MAN DAN DOING THE BEST MK1 RESTO TUTORIALS ON CZcams!
Thank you for watching and for the comment Dhiren. Glad you are enjoying it!
I can see how people can lose the enthusiasm for a project & how projects get left unfinished. It’s important to take a break sometimes, but you’re getting closer to all the good & enjoyable stuff Dan. Keep up the good work, it’s a cracking project.
Thank you for watching and for the comment Colin. Easy to see isn't it! I alway's wondered why so many project sat unfinished. I have done so much and have come so far but still have a lot of work to do! Glad you are enjoying it
Dan don’t get down about your progress this week you have done loads and overcome some really complex fabrication, your confidence is growing and yea maybe you set a unrealistic goal but life gets in the way, take a break from it and your doing something different next week so looking forward to your next vid. Can’t wait to see the last video on this project 🚗🚗🚗
Thank you for watching and for the comment Barry. Yeah I suppose looking back I did get a fair amount done! Cleaning the area's up takes so long. The sill took me about 2 hours to get clean and painted.
Dan, the way you reconstructed that rear inner arch section was beyond impressive! (Yes these horrible jobs are exhausting, but doing the hardest jobs first is the mark of a master! ) Well done lad, live long and prosper 🖖 🙏
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Phil. It didn't turn out too bad did it!
Dan, each job ticked off is job closer to the finish, its a learning process and you've come on leaps and bounds. Keep it going mate. WELL DONE!
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud! Indeed it is. The never ending, ever growing list! I forget how little experience I had!
Dan the MAN , absolutely well done , a great watch , fantastic effort , you have done really well , Heritage car parts must be very proud on your efforts. Brilliant content 👍
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud! Glad you enjoyed it!
@@DanChambersDAC glad to see you got a decent heater. Keep warm 🙂 especially keep safe sir
Great work as usual Dan. You set yourself a BIG challenge, added to which you have a life outside of the workshop. You'll be out of this bit before you know it, bolting shiny bits to a properly solid minter of a shell. Remember, this isn't a race and it's going to be one helluva motor when it's done! Keep it up!
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Rob. Hopefully I can get it to the shiny stage ASAP!
Try not to stress out bud. Nothing before it’s time... it’s coming together nicely! You’ve come so far already, don’t forget that... absolute awesome effort your putting in. A lot of the time goes into thinking things through! Your doing awesome... all self taught n done by yourself.... Top work bud.
Cheers bud. It really is coming along from when I got it! Just had a bit of a down day. Having the week off the Golf and on the Caddy has helped I think. Will get back on it tomorrow! Thanks for the comment man 👊
Looking great. Plenty of professionals out there that would be proud of the work you have already done. Anybody who has ever attempted welding a car will fully understand what its like. There is always that feeling it will never end on a big project like this. Soon be Christmas and you can have a few days off to recharge your enthusiasm . Well done!! regards Rich
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting.
Stress not Dan, progress is great, think patience is the key, more importantly why is there some folk that are disliking the content. Please show yourselves
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting John. Glad you are enjoying it. Im not sure either to be honest... Jealousy?
I cannot wait to see this shell painted. But at the same time I love seeing the process of all the repairs. This car is going to be epic if you are as meticulous with all of it
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Pete. I can't wait either!
You are doong a great job. Don’t get hung up on goals. This is a complete restoration. I know professionals that take longer to do this than you are. Keep banging on.....
Thank you for watching and for the comment Stacy. Yeah I like to set goals but shouldn't get too down if I don't hit them.
Dan your doing a great job mate. Remember it's a marathon and not a sprint. Keep your chin up.👍👏
Thank you for watching and for the comment Alan. Yeah I need to just remember that it is a long process.
Keep the faith Dan, Slow and steady wins the race. Your work is great for someone who has never done it before, and hey, the wheel arch hasn't beaten you!!!. It will seem like nothing is moving forward, then all of a sudden it will look nearly done. Great Vlog, keep it going mate
Thank you for watching and for the comment Martin. Glad you are enjoying it and thank you for the compliments. Can't wait for the welding to be done!
All good Dan, It's coming a long a treat. Don't beat yourself up over the small things, the bigger picture is it's looking awesome.
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Rob. Glad you are enjoying it.
Little bits lead to big bits Dan ...the little bits take the longest ..but they are the foundation to the big bits ..keep doing what your doing cos you are doing a great job 👍👍👍
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Eddie. Glad you are enjoying it.
Jeez Dan, don't be so hard on yourself. You are making fantastic work and progress. Not a lapped join anywhere, and any body who has welded cars knows good work just takes time, a lot of time. Please don't rush things now after all the good stuff you've done so far. I know somebody who kept tally and put over 2500hrs into restoring a Saab, so you are flying!! Really looking forward to seeing it finished.
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Davie. Glad you are enjoying it!
Been waiting for a new video 😍don't stress take your time will be mint when it's done keep up the top work 😁
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud! Hopefully it will be OK when it is finished!
Massively inspirational Dan, I think it’s amazing what you have achieved from a start as a novice fabricator. I think there’s many out there who could learn from you. Keep up the good work and the great videos, you are a natural presenter!
Thank you for watching and for the comment Dave. I forget how far I have come in the past few weeks! Glad you are enjoying it all bud!
Really enjoying videos and the progress you are making. No need to keep apologising, just do what you can, when watching I have no idea how long you’ve been working. Faffing is part of what you are doing, especially when doing it for the first time!!! I call it procrastination but it’s important as you need to think things through thoroughly before doing.
Thank you for watching and for the comment Nigel. Thinking it all through is the right way to do it but it annoys me that I can't do it right, quickly straight away!
It's easy to feel deflated when it's just you between 4 walls, but you're doing an amazing job! Keep going mate, but be careful not to burn yourself out
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Bud. I don't think that is helping me!
great videos never feel that you have to apologize for how long things take looking forward to the next one
Thank you for watching and for the comment Aubrey. Glad you are enjoying the series!
Its tough work Dan but you're getting there and learning loads along the way, do not give up.
I used your "buck" technique on an alloy sheet part for my bike the other day and it worked a treat - so you're teaching too mate, thank you!
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Peter. Ahh no way! Glad it worked for you. So satisfying isn't it!
Dan everything your doing is a1 and you will have weeks when you feel down hearted that’s Restos for you your doing better than most some people take months to do what you done in a week keep up the good work bud
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Kevin. Glad you are enjoying it!
Please don’t feel downhearted. I get the feeling your loosing the motivation.
We are loving the content and we want to see as much as you want to film👍
Great inspiration 👍
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud! Glad you are enjoying it, I think it was just one of those weeks.
Don't beat yourself up...your moving forward thats all that matters.
You get days/ weeks like that.
I tend to think of it like climbing a steep hill eventually you get to the top and you will be flying down the other side.👍👏
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud! Yes I think it was just one of those weeks. Got a few day's of sorting a few other things next week so hopefully will be a nice break!
Don't be so hard on yourself Dan your flying, keep at it fella it is coming on great 👍
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud!
Well in Dan...
Love the bit when you said. "was in bed thinking off it and coming up with ideas" I do the same mentally working on things.... When should be counting sheep..... Loving your content will be seeing this mk1 at a show next year...... Keep it up 😁
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Carl. I do it all the time with everything! I did not sleep very well the week I did this lot!!!
Forming those panel repairs takes a long time and is well worth the patience/effort, with results looking good.
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Chris.
Another great upload Dan..... that tub fab deffo tested you.....yet again tho you showed your superb fab skills. Don’t be too downhearted about your progress, the glass is half full, not empty. This could maybe be one of the best Mk1’s out there when finished🤞👊🏻👊🏻
Thank you so much for watching and for your comment Lee. It really did! Got there in the end though. I am enjoying it all, Would be a hell of a lot easier if I had a workshop full of kit though! Hopefully the car ends up being a decent finish.
Dan you are doing a fantastic job so far keep up the positive attitude and just remember dude Rome wasn’t built in a day .another a1 video can’t wait for the next
Thank you for watching and for the comment Chris. Glad you are enjoying it.
Good work Dan your patches are welded in properly, better than a patch on a patch all of a sudden it’ll all come together
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Martin.
Nice video don't beat yourself up about the welding you are tearing it up and teaching yourself as you go 👍 you are a diy car repairers inspiration 😀 stay safe mate looking forward to the next one 👍 🍺🍺
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting. Glad you are enjoying it.
Dan I've said before you are doing really really well. You can make your own panels as well.
You do sound a bit scunnered (scottish saying) but look at what you have done so far. The shell looks great. And your 5 days made such a difference. Your in touching distance of a finished shell that you know is solid with no issues. For me that would be everything for piece of mind.
Cant wait to see how you get on, take care.
Martin.
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Martin. Yeah I was getting a little down with it. Didn't feel I was getting anywhere with it! Hopefully I will feel better tomorrow after a week off!
Dan what you are doing is great, your still learning but what is fantastic you are not bodging this just to get it done. There are always highs and lows in a project like this but keep going its great to watch. M
Thank you for watching and for the comment Martin. Glad you are enjoying it! It's easy to forget that I haven't been doing this for long!
Shoot for the stars and hit the moon! Always a good thing to set a target, even if we don’t always get what we aimed for we are well on the way to getting there! More great work with the plywood forming - and that must eat up time - never mind the faffing (thinking) it’s all very necessary. Good to see that pigeon again 😄 keep going mate ....reckon you will get it done in two weeks what took you three before and that IS progress ✅😎👍
Thank you for watching and so much for the very nice comment. The ply does take a fair amount of time (Most of the fab work does!) Hopefully I can get it done in 2 weeks!
Cracking video Dan. You should be proud of what you got achieved. Really enjoying the series
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud! Glad you enjoyed it! Yeah thinking about where I have come form is pretty mad!
Great job mate! Don’t be too hard on yourself , you’re doing great!
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud! Glad you are enjoying it.
Looks good! Don’t pressure yourself on speed. The quality is amazing. Cheers 🍻
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting David. Glad you are enjoying it.
Keep going Dan I know how your feeling just seems relentless, but when you look back at how much you’ve done and how quickly you’re getting on you really should be well impressed. Every repair panel have had to be hand made and that just eats time. Just think every weld is one nearer the end..
Thank you so much for watching and for your comment Stuart. Yes it does feel a little relentless. As you say, Every weld is a step closer!
Keep going, everything takes longer than you think.
Thank you for watching and for the comment Adrian.
Rewatched this vid Dan, it really strikes me the quality of the workmanship ! Real patience and skill, keep the faith, we are enjoying the journey....
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Mark. Glad you are enjoying it!
Can’t wait for next week 🇬🇧✊🏻
Thank you for watching and for the comment Jim.
Loving the long content mate your doing a great job on this. Keep up the positive attitude
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Bud.
Thanks again for the inspiration Dan. Since you started the Golf, I've put my Rocco u on a rotisserie and have started removing all the sealant fronlm the floors. Grotty job but as you point out, sometimes you got to just get on and not faff. The balance is always not to rush so much your work quality goes down. I did the rear sill and arch on passenger side behinning of this year and also found it a pain. The square hole in the arch is for the filler neck breather. Great work again, aim high but don't put yourself under too much pressure.
Thank you for watching and for the comment Matt. Glad the channel/content has been inspiring you. Yeah the underseal removal is a pain but as you say if you just get your head down and get it done it isn't too bad. Thinking about it makes it worse. Thanks for that bud, Makes sense as the filler hole is there!
The positivity in the comments is impressive!
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Mark. It is so nice! The comments blow me away every time.
Don’t beat yourself up too much Dan
If it wasn’t for the numerous random panels you needed to make and a 5 day week rather than 3 and a bit you would have done what you wanted too originally
Quite shocking how many panels are not available really if you compare it to a classic mini which is costing you days and days
But after watching you wrap up the other side your going a lot faster than you give yourself credit for!
Good to see your a bit warmer in there, shame the pigeon came back! 😁
Nice one Dan
Thank you for watching and for the comment Rhodri. The fabrication slows you down massively and like you say not having the time I thought on it doesn't help. Yeah for some reason they have stopped making certain panels. You would have thought it would be the other way round and that they were making more panels. The heater has made so much difference!
You're doing well mate, ive been there before taking a run at a project and never made it as far as i expected either. Don't rush it, procrastination is your brain taking the time it needs. Having a little break from it will stop you getting sick of it too
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud! Yeah I ned the time to think things through but it annoys me that I can't do it right, quickly straight away!
Lovely Jubbly video, you are probably suffering from sort of fatigue, working by yourself and trying to create panels from nothing. Keep going matey.
Thank you for watching and for the comment Paul. Glad you enjoyed it. I think it may be a little of that too. Going to the workshop on my own every day gets to you!
Stonking work as the norm mate, fair play for what youve done so far. Probs a lot better beginner repairs sorted then some ot the "pro" repairs ive seen over the years
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Rich. Glad you are enjoying it and thanks for the compliments.
Your efforts will be worth it!
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud!
Great content, and love the test for getting as much done as poss in a week ... really looking forward to your next
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Mark. Glad you enjoyed it.
Absolutely smashing this build dude!
Nice one mate starting to take shape !
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Bud.
Keep going Dan it’s looking good in the next 2 weeks it will look amazing 👍
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Paul.
What you have done in this week, would take professionals with all the right gear, almost as long. If they were to take the time to make sure everything is perfect. You're certainly selling yourself short. Chin up, deep breath, carry on sir!
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Martin. Thanks for the compilment bud.
Hi Dan. Really enjoying the videos. Like the problem solving skills! Keep at it. Well Done 👍 😁
Thank you for watching and for the comment Jason. Glad you are enjoying it!
Great job mate 👌 I’ve used a Flooring Guage off Amazon for radius cuts, or difficult shapes-makes things a lot easier if you’re not already doing that, keep going though it will be perfect!!!
Good idea that bud!
Absolutely loving what you're doing and think you're doing a great job, keep going mate 👍
Thank you for watching and for the comment Robert! Glad you enjoyed it!
Well done Dan, amazing work. Top Kudos to you...Just keep going, doing what you're doing. Loving the content...
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Matthew. Glad you are enjoying it.
I bet the thinking it through keeps you awake at night? My bike restoration often give me plenty to think about in the middle of the night!
When welding, (which I'm not great at!) I find I get better results if I occasionally get a wire brush to clean that horrible sooty deposit you're left with as it contaminates subsequent welds.
Don't be down about your progress this week, it's phenomenal for someone with just a few hours experience. Whatever the amount of work done, you're a week closer to completion. 😁
Thank you for watching and for the comment Gary. Genuinely haven't had a full nights sleep in about a week 😂 Yeah I have a wire brush but alway's forget to use it! I need to try and remember as it may make welding easier. Thank you so much for the compliment bud.
Once again dan awesome job some parts takes time even the smallest welding its a pain ive done it..have a good weekend 👍
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud! It has all taken so much longer than I thought! You too bud.
Keep at it mate it's looking well, that cut out area is for your fuel lines to run through from the filler neck.
Thank you for watching and for the comment Neil. Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for that bud.
@@DanChambersDAC I've got a Mk2 gti and helping a friend restore a white Mk1 Gti. Love this kind of stuff.
Hey Dan, thanks for bringing us another great Mk1 Golf resto video. That was a big undertaking to try and get all that done, so kudos to you for getting as far as you did.
There's absolutely no way I'd be able to do what you're doing; having to make up jigs / forming tools etc. I just wouldn't have the patience and I'm dam sure they wouldn't look half as good if I tried.... quick thought; is it maybe worth trying to find one or two other Mk1's that don't have the rust issues yours has in those places; maybe you could harvest the sections you need, without having to make your own repair panels from scratch?... just a thought.
Stay strong, try not to get disheartened and keep focused on your original goal. I'm thoroughly enjoying this series of videos. You don't have to film every little detail, just keep doing what you're doing chap.
Hope you and your family have a great Christmas and New year. Stay safe.
Fan from Nottingham. 🎄🎅
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Bud. Glad you are enjoying it! I would love to get body cuts from other cars but unfortunately I don't have the budget for it 😔 Sheet steel is nice and cheap! Hopefully in the new year I can get a bit of a budget!!! Hope you have a great Christmas & new year bud.
Top job done brilliant Dan
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud!
Nice work again pal.
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Christopher.
Top work yet again 👍🏻
Thank you for watching and for the comment Danny.
As a fellow faffer I'd like to say you are absolutely flying through this and doing an amazing job. Honestly impressive. Look forward to everything that's coming. Well done mate!👏
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hello a great video and a great job 👍👍👍from Germany 🇩🇪 👋👋👋 Kai
Thank you brother.
You got a lot more done in one week than I did 😉 And I am not welding or fitting panels.
Thank you for watching and for the comment Jonathan. It's so easy to forget how much you have done in a week when the project is so big! What project are you on with bud?
Merry Christmas to you and family ,Dan absolutely loved caddy project
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Bud. Glad you enjoyed it. Had a great one thank you. Hope you had a great one.
Looking good dude
Thank You so much for watching and for the comment Bud.
Nice job again! I think it’s coming along really well. Nothing ever goes as quickly as you think it will - I find the same on every job I do on our MK1. And in fixing one thing, I usually find another 2 or 3 jobs to do.
Thank you for watching and for the comment Alex. Glad you are enjoying it. Annoying isn't it! Everything takes so much longer!
Another great episode 🙌🏻🔥
Cheers bud. Thank you so much for watching and for commenting.
What a job you're doing. I follow you from Spain! 😉🤗 I am also restoring golf mk1 gld with tdi swap
Thank you so much for watching and for the comment Bud. Glad you are enjoying it. Good luck with your restoration.
Some hugely complex parts done there Dan, your right to take a break, can then go back to it and realised your right to be proud of what your achieving! 🤙🏻
Thank you for watching and for the comment David! That panel took some thought! It is hardly perfect but hopefully will do the job. Looking forward to a few day's doing something else!
Another great video Dan! It’s coming along nicely now! 👍👊
Thank you for watching and for the comment Simon.
Excellent video again mate
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Jeremy.
Love watching your videos keep them coming 👌
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud!
A1 perfect 😂👍
It's interesting how the same car can rot in different places. My rear inner arch tub was completely fine compared to where it had gone on yours, yet the lip round the suspension turret was gone on mine meaning I had to replace both rear suspension turrets. The hole that comes through the inner arch is for the fuel breather pipe and the pipes for the gravity valve that sits up inside the arch near the fuel filler neck hole. There should be a piece of plastic trim that covers the side of the arch where the hole is that the pipes run behind up to the top of the arch.
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud! It's mad isn't it! You would think they would all go in the same place. Thanks for that, Makes sense seeing as the fuel filler is up there!
Going great dan keep going . can't wait for the vids every week progress is progress 💪would like to see more of dave the pidgion kicking round
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud! Glad you are enjoying them! Dave doesn't appear very often any more! I will see what he thinks of my new welding!
Mate it will all be worth it when its finished such an iconic and beautiful car 👍
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud! Hopefully it will be bud.
Your face was so long on friday morning. Glad you ignored me and just got on with it 🤣
🤣 Sulking Friday for me! So nice to just have you in the workshop though dude!
@@DanChambersDAC Well you're lucky as a lot of people want me 😘
Well done mate you should be proud of what you’ve achieved this week, another great video. Bet it takes you ages to get to sleep with thinking of what you need to do on the car the next day 😂
Thank you for watching and for the comment Daniel. I genuinely haven't had a full nights sleep in about a week 🤣
Another great video, stop beating yourself up and apologising about time drifting away, keep plodding on with the good work, maybe stick a clock in the background to see how much time actually goes into the time lapse for people to appreciate how long things actually take, it’s good to set targets to give your self a goal, even if they may be unachievable, it’s something to work to
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud! A clock isn't a bad idea. Wanting to get all of that done in 1 week was a little optimistic!
i really hope with all the welding work you done to it.... you gonna send it to a shop with a Acid bath. and give it a KTL coating. ! cus this car is deff going to need it!
Been considering getting something done.
@@DanChambersDAC better do it GTIS will hold valeu in long run.. would be a pittty if bare metal closed off will rust again due to being damp.! you put so much effort in this ;)
Dan stop apologising your doing a great Job . If it was easy EBay wouldn’t have a load of abandoned projects lol .
Was trying work out your accent and location ?
Thank you for watching and for the comment Wayne! This is very true! I want to show the ups and downs of a project like this as no one has to my knowledge. I am South Leicestershire bud.
Hi man. Tell me please, body after blasting covered with primer?
"It isn't A1". Well, compared to sheet metal that doesn't exist, it's AAA1. I told that to my kid when showing him how to do this. "You can't screw it up worse than it not existing"
Thank you for watching and for the comment Keith. This is so true!
To true 👍
get a black , flush mount aviation fuel cap. It would look great
fabrication is a grind , LOL , you have almost broken its back mate . Keep going lad , good work
Thank you so much for watching and for your comment. I want to try and keep it all as factory as I can. Good idea though. I am chipping away at the fab work!
How is the diesel heater going?
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud! Crap! It isn't powerful enough for the space.
Great work. I think you are way to hard on yourself.
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Mark. Yeah I think I am a little.
He pours water from the ceiling, it is impossible that it is not rotten inside. In my golf I had to remove it.
Thank you for watching and for the comment bud!
great fabrication skills on the wheel arch panel, you could cut out the fuel filler cap hole and put in a mk2 fuel filler cap. Make it a bit different than the standard.
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Nick. I want to try and keep it as standard looking as I can.
Fancy a good T4 to work on, did you get the email?
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Bud. I don't think I have had an e-mail dude.
There’s no quick way.....
Thank you so much for watching and for commenting Bud.
Too much talking
Thank you for the support. You don't have to watch if you don't want to.
what a primadona ... talking talking talking talking ...... I lose my patience ...
🤣🤣🤣🤣 You don’t like it, don’t watch it. Pretty simple really. Thank you for the view and the comment though. All engagement helps with growing the channel
