    THIS IS THE MINUTE WE’VE BEEN WAITING FOR! It’s so cool seeing all of the steps to get here. Starting small on the fender work, getting your bodywork and welding down. Body work on the van, more steps on the bike. It all fits together. Keep up the great work mate!

    Happy for you mate! I know exactly what it's like when you have that one job you're not looking forward to. Mine was the scuttle, usually not as bad as you think in the end.... Congrats!!!!

      We all over think these job's. i had so many people tell me that it was a right pain, That I wouldn't be able to do it etc and it put's doubt in your mind. Turns out it wasn't that bad!

    And now im wondering should i replace my roof from mk1 jetta to roof which got the sunroof. Damn you Dan! Amazing bodywork and this mk1 series is one of the best things to watch from youtube for me right now!

    Hi Dan, the series so far has been awesome..I've got a MK1 Caddy standing around here for about 18 months now, and because of this particular series, i think as soon as winter passes in about 2 months ima be making a start at restoring...

    The exact same job I have been putting off for my Mk2 as I hate the glass roof it had when i bought it when it was new. A Mk2 seems easier as it has hidden seams under the drip rails though.

    With only recently starting the series, and not reading the comments, the only thing I would have done differently would be to have bonded the roof prior to welding. Everything else is blob on.

      Exactly the same conclusion I came to after I had welded the roof on. This project was a massive learning curve but I am so pleased with how it turned out.

    Nice work, at this stage its as good as many body shops. Yes some people are tidy - very tidy. Hope your vision is back to normal now. Not many people will have the balls or sticking power to take on work like this, great to see.

    Good effort Dan i must ask though why didn’t you drill out the spot welds in the gutter as thats where the panel was fixed in at factory. Then you have a channel it can only sit in. Plus when welding it back on there’s a lot less heat.

      Yeah was annoyed to find it but overall the roof is in much better condition now.

    It would have been miles easier to just cut it off at the pillars, then cut the pillars on the donor roof the same and drop it on. You could have easily welded it too because its really strong steel there.

      😂 you having a laugh? Cutting structural parts of the shell away and having to make sure 4 window opening & 2 door openings are the right shape is easier than just fitting a new skin?

      @@DanChambersDAC Yes, I have done this very same thing 3 times. Take your time measuring and marking the cuts in the right place and you can have the roof swapped in a couple of hours.
      I also cut some small bits of flat bar and plug welded them into the pillars on the car so they stick out 30-40mm or so. They then act as a guide for dropping the roof back on.

    You should do raptor liner on the underside of the golf, be good protection on the underside.body shell is looking amazing now.👍🤟👏🔥

    So your NOT swapping the roof but replacing the roof SKIN. Have you not worked out that they are completely different things. Shame as I was searching for easy ways to replace a complete roof.
