Howdy Simon- well, another fantastic job completed in short order. I was reminded of taking the starter off my tractor with the loader frame on. Ain’t but one way to get it off and a fellow better have time and patience. Great job my friend. God bless
Hi Paul, sometimes I wonder if time and patience is all I have left. Lucky really I never has either. Thank you, take care.
I remember when snowmobile mechanics were simple and the starter was a rope
That starter removal would make a preacher sware❤😊
Simon, Well done, very tricky job but you managed it and in a short space of time
Simon, your light it on fire joke cracked me up.
Well sometimes I get upset.
Nice repair on the snowmobile! I've worked on a number of vehicles over the years where the troubleshooting was pretty easy but replacing the parts was the far more difficult part of the job!
Thanks Monte, if I have learned anything it would be the more experience you have the easier the difficult jobs become.
@@arctic-rebel Absolurely true!
Great job Simon….now you’re off and away for the next video! Fabulous. Hope you are all well and enjoying the weekend.❤️🇦🇺🇸🇪
Thank you Anne, we are all good thanks.
Endless fun... but you won!! Stay safe up there, you and Sarah and the Hound, have a great weekend - don't do what I wouldn't!!
Great! I can carry on then. Thanks AJ love to you both.
What a pain in the ars that was. Basically it is a quick job to replace a starter when ya can access everything. But that one is definitely a challenge. Great job !!☕☕☕😊
Yes, exactly total job time was ok though you just have to crack into it.
You fear nothing, way to go🤠
Thank you, fear is but an emotion.
Good afternoon Simon and family.see your having sled troubles.wood pile is looking good.we are boiling sap and making maple syrup for a past time ❤😊
Sounds great, I love maple syrup so much. Have fun with that task.
Pain in the neck job well done Si 👍👍
It was Ash, but runs well and been working it all day.
What a job for a starter. Saved yourself Probably around 300$ and a week or two.
The price was more than double that and took a week.
Thanks Simon, you did a great job, snow machine is needed for your needs for sure, and I hate to see the price of a new one. More and more I have been walking around with my pants down. Lol take care friend.
It is a common trend these days Mark, not that it makes me feel any better.
Great video Simon thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you.
I don't mind doing my own mechanical work but I really dislike having to do it on an unexpected breakdown. It's unfortunate that your task ended abruptly from this but its good you were able to get the snowmobile home from the forest. And since you're an experienced troublshooter and mechanic you were already ahead in the game before even picking up a tool.
You know when you get that feeling about something you use often, it was one of those times.
Well.. you are hereby awarded the "Never give up Award"... I would have done what you mentioned.. set the s..t on fire. Yamaha's are good machines, snowmobiles, outboards and mc's.. but they are too finicky, too heavy and have too much doo-da's that can fail. Just my humble opinion.. and some of my friends too who have owned Yama's and changed brands because of it. I have great experience with Polaris, both Wide Traks and standard tracks, but I'd guess any 2-stroke wide track would do the job when it comes to working in the forest. Anyhoo.. I hope the old Viking last a few years still and get the job done.. Stay safe out there🙂
I agree with everything you say totally. It will be the last Yamaha snowmobile I own though. I had ready good experiences with MC's when I was younger but would like to try a Polaris or some other brand unless this lasts then I will not need another. Thank you, Take care.
Well done Simon, you just never know where the next curve ball is coming from. Getting parts is harder than ever and far more expensive. I wonder if they are trying to price the average joe away from I.C.E slowly.
I don't think that is it, just really bad decision making at the top.
If it ain't one thing it's another for sure Simon everything is expensive today it is hard to walk with your pants on the ground lol great video though sunny and 50 degrees here you take care and be safe up there
Thanks Eric, I am guessing you will be able to open the store soon if your not already.
My junk shop is open year round get a lot of snowmobilers going up to camp during the winter and stop at my place
Hi Simon, I have 4 of these VK10's in Alaska at a remote homestead. I got them all as used machines and have been working 'em hard, too. So far they have been mostly reliable, only one has given me grief, and because of that I nicknamed it the "evil Greta Thunfish" as it only runs when the battery is charged fresh! - It also has starter troubles and makes wild trashing sounds when it does start the engine (if/when). I bet that I will find what you found inside the starter and that I will have to do the same repairs for sure. I really appreciate your video! - The price of the Yamakaze spare parts is just outlandish, obscene bad. I had to order a starter as well (sigh)... Best Regards from Alaska, Lars
Hi Lars, now I have see my own and one other at the dealer you can bet that is exactly what you will find. I know from watching some of your video's you know your way around engines, I cannot remember a worse starter to remove but has to be done so I hope I gave you some useful hints to save time. As you also know they are really good machines when they are working but not so easy to work on. Good luck and be safe out there.
@@arctic-rebel Hi Simon, Thanks for your response, appreciated. I will only repair that mess when I have the other pressing issues at that old homestead under control: There are so many dangerous trees there that have either already fallen into each other or are already onto the buildings etc, I have to deal with that first and its bad stuff and I do lack experience logging deadfall and windfall. I can use luck and will try to be safe out there. Landing the airplane on the ice yesterday was exiting enough. Best Regards from Alaska! Lars
You need a loading boom with a handle winch to haul to the log trailer.
If it is to heavy I leave it and can pick it all up with the tractor and forest trailer Dave.
Bra jobbat 😀👍🏻
Hello from Northern New York State. So the starter field magnet disintegrated. That was the problem, and in my opinion, it was NOT caused by the very many start cycles. The magnets are glued on, and after time, the glue fails, magnet crashes against armature windings & gets busted up. Wonderful engineering!
About your firewood: is that Gray birch or Paper birch?
You are correct, thank you. I did see several at the dealer that came from 2015-2018 models so not an uncommon issue. It is white Birch or paper birch. I can find Gray here but not so common.
Changing a starter on a Harley Davidson is no fun either.
I have no doubt, but the ride afterwards is much more satisfying.
Well done problems like this can try your patience, would it be possible to fit a larger radiator to the machine for extra cooling?
Thanks for sharing cheers Simon 🌲🌲❄️
Hi Terry, you can retro fit almost anything to anything if the need arises but I don't feel the need for extra cooling. There is only a issue at the end of winter when temperatures rise above -10C and it is not a problem if you turn it off when not running, this also saves fuel and a 1000cc Yamaha engine uses fuel !
nice work but wow so fiddly ....but you fix if :-)
Yes, thanks. Just another test I guess.
🤠👍
I have 2 X 1998 Polaris 250 cc very little electronics, love the older machines but requires maintenance?
Maintenance is not problem for me, pulling the huge weight is the issue and at the time I needed a wide track with a lot of power to get up and down the hills. At the time this Yamaha seemed like a good idea.
Should backup rope start
These starter motors are permanently engaged.
Or add a pull starter? If possible?
I remember the first MC I get with electric start. After years of every bike wanting to break my leg I was determined never to go back. Now it is bad enough I have to pull start the chainsaw 20 times a day but to add another 20 pulls on the snowmobile, no my body just cannot take it.
Yahma lube is not cheap . They need to give ppl lube at the counter for the fucking you will get buying it 😢😂
LOOOOOOOL make my day, never a truer sentence has been written
Har din skoter fått Lucas elsystem? 😂😂😂😂
bra queston, för att vara ärlig har jag ingen aning. Inget är märkt lucas. Lucas är väldigt dålig.
@@arctic-rebel hehe... Elsystem med fel på brukar jag säga att det fått Lucas...
