- Husqvarna 550XP mark 2. Is it a good replacement and how did we get our hands on a new one?
Fuel,oil and bearings looked at and discussed, what and how is a 2 stroke lubricated and how bad is modern petrol/gasoline. Just some of the subjects covered in this video.

Howdy Simon- first, I’m glad you were able to get another saw. I definitely know how it is when a saw goes down. Ouse several different saws and each one has a specific use. I will say I’ve had excellent service with my Husky saws. Two of which are thirty years old. You will get good use with your new saw because it would be a given that you know exactly how to use it and how to take care of it. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the new introduction to the video- very creative and pleasant to watch. Hope you and Ms. Sarah are doing well. God’s blessings to you my friend
Thank you Paul, I don't have enough saws for it not to be a major issue, thus when I rebuild the old one not only will I get many more years from it, I will make an excellent additional saw. Mk II is 0.3 kg heaver than Mk I, acc. to Skogsforum.

Have the same 550 and the 560, they works great. Have a pair of stihl to but prefer huskys. The new ones much more responsive. Keep up the good work Simon🤠
Thank you, I also prefer the Husky but you know different saws for different jobs and the 550 has plenty of power up to an 18" bar then I think you need a larger saw. Have a great weekend.
I've in countered the problems of nuts and bolts vibrating out my chains
Saw and other engines that I own myself and worked on as a job fixing and servicing small engines. I've seemed to have solved the problem with both full metal lock nuts, high temp PTFE tape wound around the threads and also which is a bit more extreme, chisel a line down the threads on the bolt which makes it harder to screw back in but doesn't/ hasn't yet loosened itself off as yet .good luck

The roller bearing cage is often nylon but the rollers are alway metal. You press the mains apart and can buy all the bearings via ebay or amazon using either the part numbers printed on the bearings or via measurements and their inexpense in the UK but I've not a clue as to the cost to you in the north end of nowhere. The hardest part is pressing the mains back together whilst keeping it lined uo properly and then balancing but a guy of your skill set wouldn't have to much bother. Good luck
I had already found all the parts in the UK, I don't miss much about the UK. I do miss the food and the ease of availability of anything I want whenever I want it. I have not found anyone who has posted anything about how to do it so when the times comes I will be sure to do just that and you will be able to see how it all works, or not.

It is a shame how much gets destroyed because it cannot be fixed.

Sorry about all your troubles my friend. Yeah the aftermarket stuff you have to be careful with, there's a few that are alright I suppose. I'm curious though to why you choose the 550? I know you have reasons to your preference, just genuinely curious? That's a professional series saw I assume?
I'm no logger or nor do I heat with wood. I have the 455 and it has treated me well. I too stay on the heavy side of oil. 50:1 recommended, I run 32:1 in everything. No issues. Like everything else they too have gone up in price.
An average guy can't hardly afford non ethanol gas here. Especially if you use lots of gas on a weekly basis mowing the yard and everything else. I think just about all gas here has ethanol, whether they disclose it or not is a different story. I run a fuel additive in all my gas called star-tron. Knock on wood but I've had zero problems in the past. I've been ruuing it since 2017.
If I ever buy a new husqvarna I believe that I'll buy a smaller, lighter version. There's options out there that h.p. are comparable. I did notice the 550 has a 3 piece crank 😮. I hope all are well and looking forward to the sounds of the new saw. Take care and God bless my friends.

My choice for another 550 was an easy one, it has just enough power and is not to heavy. I am heavily invested in chains and bars and find it runs well. My old one has done so many hours I think it has done really well to last as long as it has for a small 2 stroke engine. Anything smaller would be an issue and for anything larger I already have my Styhl. I would have rather just been able to rebuild my old one but there was more wear than I would like to see in a saw that has to do the hours. Naturally I do a lot that you don't see and a smaller lighter saw would also be useful in the future. Just as well you don't have to pay the gas prices we do, your prices whilst going up are still cheap compared. Naturally your correct about all our gas being watered down. Nice little saws those 550's... I'm sure you'll have a lot of hours on that saw too👍 I have a 576 xpg for the big stuff and a Dolmar PS 5105 for everything else.. super happy with both saws👌The dream is a ported 372 xp, but it would be beyond expensive to buy a really good one from US/ Canada with all the silly import taxes and stuff. Hope you guys are doing good, and let's hope the spring will come your way too... all the best buddy🙂
Thanks, I wonder if I should modify the old 550 when I rebuild it for a bit of fun although I remember seeing something on a ported 372xp. Not sure but I think Husky did a couple themselves 15 or so years ago. I know what you mean about all these taxes it is little wonder things are hard to find.
There's one thing I did to the 576 that helped a lot.. a little muffler modification. Removed the spark screen, cut open the muffler, removed all the useless nooks and crannies inside and had a buddy of mine, extremely skilled with a TIG- welder, make new curled pipes. The saw is breathing way better and the performance went up a few notches. It's a pretty powerful saw to begin with, but now it has better throttle response in every rpm range👍
I have see Bucking Billy Ray do this on a number of saw's. I have been thinking about it but dont know anyone who could do such a job for me, although I have not asked there are some talented welders around.

Interesting the components/parts are a little different to your old one, no doubt they would add to the extra weight! Only concern is we can’t have you doing more damage to shoulders and spine! Thank you Anne, apparently the mk2 is 0.3kg heavier so not sure how I knew that with just a quick lift. My back is not back just now but done my self an injury to my right shoulder and have no idea how. I feel very confident with the use of my new crane that further injuries can be avoided. I have a Stihl 261 and I run it on 93 octane. I might not have that many hours on it but I’ve never had an issue. Nine years is a long time, so break down and buy one. I could buy a replacement for &719.00 a, ms 261 Stihl 18”.
Hi Kirby, just saying what the man said. I agree 9 years is a long time but it is not just the years the hours on that old 550 are very many for a small 2 stroke I think it did very well.
Kinda of a no brainer? 9 years doesn't owe you anything.
