In this review I compare the “Engineered Now H3” the “Engineered Now H4” and the "Atlas Headrest" add-ons for the Herman Miller Aeron chair. I review the features and appearance, installation, adjustments, performance and also spend extra time showing how these headrests work (or don't work) with headphones. Chair shown in video is the Aeron Classic size "C"

The Atlas has been on my aeron’s for years at work, and now on my personal chair. Absolutely love it. The only, slight, issue I’ve had is if I’m wearing a ball cap with a Velcro adjustment strap, it’ll stick to the headrest.

Great video, at first I thought the Atlas was a rip off because I thought mesh would be the closest thing to HM OEM, but I can see how the Atlas is the clear winner when it comes to design and comfort.

I work as an orthopaedist and our clinic had often recommended Aeron chairs to our patients. I've got the 2 mentioned headrest in the video. The ones we got are the Atlas and the Engineered One HR-03.
I won't go into the looks and installation and explain the technicalities in simpler terms.
The HR-03 with its mesh fabric will have better heat dissipation, that's for the same purpose why Aerons are using mesh.
The cushion on the Atlas does trap heat which will eventually cause discomfort and the user to fidget, getting the user out of the proper posture. Especially in places where the weather is hot in humid, or in summer. It's really not recommended.
The second thing about the headrest, we compared the positioning. The HR-03 is highly adjustable and can be pulled back, decreasing the distance the head gets pushed forward. The Atlas protrudes too forward and there's no way to draw back much, this causes the forward head syndrome which adds stress to the neck, which also causes the spine to angulate improperly.
Last will be on movement, as movement encourages healing and circulation. The Atlas is pretty fixated but does an alright job. The HR-03 can tilt and goes up and down in a synchronised manner which will be more ideal.
Overall, we recommend the HR-03. Hope the information helps.

  • @daspacechoechechoz9028

Appreciate the accurate and honest review, thank you. I went with the Atlas and love it. Totally recommend it for Aeron Chairs over anything else. Atlas is far superior, can loosen tension and get it perfectly set, then lock it in, which BTW, they updated the four screws for this to tension knobs on newest models, making it even better. Atlas is much more comfortable and stable. Depth settings go further forward than any other I tried, probably more than most humans will require. It's perfectly awesome Atlas gave the extra, most headrests are annoyingly just a little too far (or woefully too far) back at maximum...especially in recline. You want to pitch your head a little extra forward to rest comfortable...like a bed pillow watching TV. Had no issues with headphones, but I'm not using huge cans. Thanks again, helped me not make a bad decision, return, wait for another...again. :)

@b1lf hello! I had my original for about 10 years and loved it. However, it had some small design issues, which were corrected with the remastered version. If you never had an Aeron the original at a good discount may be okay. The Aeron comes with a 12 year warranty (unheard of in a chair), so that makes a new one a great purchase. I would only buy a used one if it had a warranty remaining and you’re able to pickup the remaining amount of time. Hope this helped!

man I wish I watched this before I bought my H3 long ago, my biggest issue is no one sits perfectly straight always so if you lean a bit your head rests on the hard plastic, the looseness was an issue but if you put a lot of muscle into the screws it won't move at all.
I'm gonna try to sell the H3 on Craigslist and try to get the Atlas.

  • @Swift016
    @Swift016 Před 3 lety +2

I bought an EN headrest on Amazon while waiting for the Atlas headrests to come back into stock (they sell out fast). I really enjoy the mesh feeling; it's really unbeatable for neck comfort. The dealbreaker for me is that the EN's range of motion is bizarre. This video doesn't really illustrate it fully but the mechanism moves the headrest around in an arc rather than being free to move in three dimensions. Sometimes I like to slump down when reclining in my chair, and the EN H4 just couldn't go low enough to get into the crook of my neck. The Atlas doesn't have that problem at all, but I have to admit I don't like the fabric as much as the mesh. The range of motion is PERFECT though. Fortunately, Atlas offers headrest "replacements" and you can get a mesh one that's compatible with the fabric pillow's mounting hardware. I will probably get the mesh one and just swap them out as needed.
Edit: I have purchased the mesh replacement pillow for my Atlas headrest and it's definitely my favourite of the three. It combines the comfort of mesh with Atlas' superior range of motion. After a few months, I still found the fabric headrest to be really uncomfortable and hard, and not like comfy memory foam as I'd expect. I honestly think they either cheaped out on the pillows or they just were never good to begin with. The mesh is astoundingly comfortable because it uses the exact same mesh as the chair itself.

D2000? that's what it looks like. I had those but mine broke beyond repair after about 10 years so I replaced it a couple years ago with X00's... identical in shape but sound is a lot better, closer to the D5000. Well, now I have to figure out how i'm going to afford the atlas. it's a bit more expensive than the ENjoy: HR01 I was initially considering.

It's not all about your height. It's also about your torso to leg ratio. I'm 6'1", but I sit taller than my ~6'7" brother. I measured the ratios and while I skew tall torsoed, I'm well within the typical range of the population ratio wise.
I found a succinct way to demonstrate this, by sitting cross legged on the floor beside a chair, so that the silly smallness of chairs becomes apparent...

11:10 is pretty much the only reason you need to not buy the garbage H3 and just buy the Atlas one. Am in the process of getting amazon to refund the absolute fisher-price shitcake of engineering that is the H3. I assume the same applies to the H4 (lanky version of the H3).

HM philosophy is not to use headrest. Headrest is not HM product.

You are tall , to tall for the first headrest...hmmm - don't tell us exactly how tall you are - we will guess

There is a 4th version of the headrest found on ebay, i have one. They cost a fraction of ones in your demo. Looks similar to the 3rd one, works great ...
