That part of the review seemed obnoxious to me. Firstly he complained about the embody being too big when in fact it's design lends itself quite well to sitting cross-legged. Additionally, people normally want to spend this kind of money to help fix their posture and reduce the risk of injury. This means that you would expect the individual to want to sit properly... Another key point is that these chairs have a 12 year warranty so having them break shouldn't be a huge concern. I don't know man, get a beanbag if you want to sit like a potato.

Yep. Not being able to cross your legs might be a dealbreaker, especially for something as expensive as an Aeron. Always read that the lip of the chair hurts but I have yet to try the chair to see if it's as bad as they say. Might go for a Leap or Embody if Aeron really doesn't like weird sitting positions.

    • @evshrug
      @evshrug Pƙed 3 lety +4

@@math001 Yeah, the Leap was looking like the winner for me, especially since I don’t have slouch and slide issues, and you can add a headrest to a Leap.
Other considerations paragraph. Hyken may merit more research, nice price for what you get. Hyken might wear out as fast as the Costco chair though, so a $400-500 used Aeron might be the long term better investment. With that 12 year warranty, HM expects it to last a long time, and if a $100 mesh repair gives you ANOTHER 12 years... well, buy once, cry once. Leap might also be repairable, also has incredible durability and healthy used market. I haven’t missed sitting cross-legged in my racer seat gaming chair (I think I’m growing out of it, honest!), but I think I really would like a footrest or ottoman to rest my legs on.

Truly the best chair review videos out there. straight to the point and gives viable examples for each pro/con every chair has. I recently bought the "costco" chair after seeing and sitting on it on a friend's house. I had no idea it actually had a following and I'm glad it happened to be featured on this video amongst the best/most expensive chairs out there. Truly for the price you can't go wrong. In my university (when we used to attend to school) we had the Herman Miller Aeron on various places at campus. You can feel its an expensive chair, the confort and the quality is there, but if you compare it directly to the costco chair for confort its fairly similar. Besides not having lumbar support, honestly the quality is pretty good for the price. great video!

I bought the hyken after this review. I really like it! You were spot on about sitting cross legged on it! The cons are that you can't get the arm rests completely out of the way, the wheels included are not good for hardwood. I bought the replacement hardwood wheels online but it raised it up an inch. I'm 5'9" and the lowest setting on the chair was right where it needed to be. There is a gas valve online that is an inch shorter but I'm not sure if I'm going to buy it or not. On the pro side when the back locks it locks straight. No flex.

I have had the staples chair for a few years now and I think that it has served its purpose pretty well. The only issues I have with it is the build quality. All the materials feel fine and there is no creaking, but there are fitment issues. I have 4 of these chairs and I see the problem in all of them. 1 has a slightly tilted seat, 2 have uneven arm rests, and the last one has a tilted beck rest. You probably wont notice it unless you are looking for it, but I fear that this may cause possible posture issues in the future. This is one of the reasons why I want to get a higher end chair because the tolerances may be better.

Office designer here-price really matters for long term life of a chair and adjustments it has. I’d say, most over $250 are the same comfort quality. The warranties on commercial furniture are usually limited lifetime, with 5-10 years on components like the pneumatic lift and casters. Every person likes totally different seat cushions-that’s really a personal preference thing.

That weekend fun comment genuinely made me laugh. I bought the Komene ErgoPro, which is basically the same as the Staples and Costco chair, and my only gripe with it is that I slide off. It was also starting to be uncomfortable on the bottom so I put a cushion on it which fixed the sliding. I also added high quality rubber casters and thick armrest cushions and I keep the tilt adjustment almost tight so it keeps me upright but still has just a bit of give. I eventually want to try the Steelcase Gesture for that depth adjustment which is what my chair really needs.

Nice comparison. As a Hyken chair owner, I can say that it is a good chair for what it costs. To me, the standing features of the chair are the headrest and the locking mechanism for the backrest tilt. However, there is a couple of things I wish were different: first being the support and contour in the backrest are meant for slightly or fully reclined position and not well suited for sitting upright as there is a significant gap between the backrest and the curvature of my back; and second, the armrests can benefit a lot from better adjustability, they just go up and down (and they don't get low enough to my liking), adding forward and backward adjustments will hugely improve the chair ergonomics, without this I'm never comfortably close enough to my desk (which is a standing desk with plenty of height adjustability). As a consequence, I can never achieve optimal productivity sitting position with the Hyken chair. For reference, I'm 1.76 m tall and weight about 74 kg.
So, the Hyken chair is good for relaxing or working if you favor reclined sitting posture, not so good if you like to sit upright with the keyboard close to elbow level. I hope this helps.

Well this is well timed. I was going to look for a cheap-ish mesh chair to replace the fake leather ones I use that start shedding after a few years.

*looks down at myself sitting cross legged*
Well, I know what chair I'm not buying!

I have had the aeron over 16y, recently have a logictech embody too - if I had to chose just one, it would be Aeron every day. One of my best buys for sure.

I'm glad he mentioned the leg confinement of the Aeron. I know we're supposed to keep our legs at a 90 degree angle, but it gets extremely uncomfortable when you're at your desk for hours every day, even if you get up for a few minutes every hour to stretch your legs.

don't forget the Herman Miller comes with a 12 year warranty so don't have to worry about that $100 repair

In addition, not everyone is a millionaire. That is, even if the HM comes with a 12 year warranty and then breaks right after, it may still be cheaper in the long run compared to re-buying a $200 chair every couple years.
That said, apparently HM chairs last for much longer than their warranty, so that's even more value.
Then there's even the possibility of re-selling the chair because HM chairs have a large used market. So again, more value on the back-end of the overall purchase.
So an excellent chair with a 12-year warranty (labor and parts) that normally far outlasts its warranty and can even be re-sold for partial value back.

Herman Miller and its authorized resellers also have semi annual sales. I got one 3 years ago at a fairly good discount. It's still flawless and no regrets at all. I've attached the Atlas headrest and it's super comfortable.

Staple Hyken comes with a 7 year warranty so for $200; your money is well spent.

I have had that costco chair for 5 years (sitting on it rn) and I can tell yall that thing is probably the best price to value you're gonna find on the chair market, if I ever hear it's going out of production I'm buying as much as I have room for lol.
