    While they use similar mechanics, War of the Ring and Battle of the Five Armies are very different games. I personally prefer the sweeping epic of War of the Ring, but Five Armies is a much tighter game which will be over in 2 hours at the most. Usually when Beorn turns up.

    Grindhouse is a game where you need at least four people to really get the best out of it, but its quite good fun and games last about 10 minutes. I wanted to buy the expansions but I have three of them already and it was very expensive £100.

      I'm having fun with it. Definitely one to roll out at the Christmas party when there are a lot more people around the table, though. It's very expensive for what it is though. Do you feel the expansions have been worth it?

    • @HarleyFirestorm

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring We use Grindhouse as a game to play if we finish too early playing what ever campaign game we are playing through at the time.
      Its a bit hard to answer that because; do the expansions add to the game?, yes defiantly they do and can be quite fun, but they are very expensive, and I feel for what you are getting in terms of materials they are very much over priced, but if you like the game and its going to stay in your collection, then yes I would buy them, I didn't because it seemed like a big waste of money as I have three of the expansions already (they were selling all in one pack) and not many people own this game and whoever does is probably going to own the expansions I own already, so I cant pass them on.
      In your situation it sounds like your as keen as I on owning this game and will play it, so I would say buy them and moan about the cost later :).
      Just wanted to add just in case your were not aware, with regards to the expansions you don't add them all into the core game, you add the one you want to play then when you finish the game you put the expansion back in its own box, so they don't bloat out the core game, which is good.

    Has the Darktide video game made any impact on the fans of GW? If not, why producing new games set on this team? Most likely they started working on this just when the game was coming out and it's to late to turn back now.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Před měsícem +1

      I don't really know. GW's board game was designed to onboard more people to GW products through a shelf-friendly product with a theme video gamers would know, rather than being a product for their existing audience.
      Not sure what Cubicle 7's plan is for the card game, but they are probably aiming more at fans of the video game, rather than trying to interest GW fans with a Darktide theme.

      It's a lovely production overall. Art is great, miniatures are good, the tokens are thick and well illustrated, and you get plenty of cones of Dunshire and some custom dice. The gold coins are plastic and they do have a bit of a tiddlywinks feel to them (although they are thicker than tiddlywinks). The board is thick and large (it folds out in six sections). The cards are beautiful, and they are full-size, but they are thin, and they have a slightly odd feel - smooth on the front, slightly rough on the reverse - and a few of mine were a bit squashed by the paper wrap. I imagine that is what people have said feels cheap.

    Cool AH mailed you a copy of Talisman to review. Looks like a nice one. It will be interesting to see what route they follow for expansions. Not sure how good co-op Talisman would be.
    I got a copy of third edition Betrayal for 2 bucks at the thrift store unpunched and new. Looks like they flipped thorough the rules and saw the token sheet and went back to phone games! They also seem to have had some issues removing the sealing stickers so there's some "character" imparted on the edges of the box.

    Never cared much for Mass Effect as a setting. Don't know if I'll bother with the game.
    Dark Tide is just kind of messed up and half-assed all around. One wonders what went wrong with it,especially in light of how good the Vermintide games are. I get GW wants to bury Warhammer Fantasy,but the more I mess around in that world,the more I wish it wasn't dead when I got there.
    I'm not a fan of Talisman so I'm not as excited about this one. I think you made a video about the game. I'll go look later and review it and see if I'll get it or not.
    So is this a re-release of the old game or is it a whole new game?
    I look forward to your review of The Undercity.
    I should pay more attention to print and play for more gaming goodness.
    I don't know why people don't just make Heroscape map hexes as "modular terrain pieces". There can't be a copy right on those,right? I know Lego could easily make them. Maybe we should talk to Zuru. They're looking for something to latch on to.
    Not wild about card games,but The Battle of Five Armies board game looks neat.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Před měsícem

      GW aren't burying the Old World. They brought back Warhammer Fantasy Battle and they are pushing new army boxes for it. We could well see more game systems in that world going forwards.
      There's no review for Talisman yet from me. I talked about it coming back, but the full review will be happening in the next few weeks or so now I have a copy. This is a brand new edition - 5th edition - with new components and revised rules. Avalon Hill have kept a lot of things the same but they are adding their own stamp too.
      There are companies making HeroScape tiles. At the Expo there was a company displaying tiles that were indistinguishable from the originals. I thought it was the HeroScape stand at first. It's a company called Lorescape if you want to check out their stuff.

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring They brought it back after they buried it. I'd have to guess Age of Sigmar isn't doing that well. And no,being sold out of product doesn't mean it's doing well,it just means GW sucks at logistics as always.
      I thought you did a review of the older version. Oh well,guess I'll wait for the new one then.
      I looked them up and all I could find was an X account and it doesn't say much.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Před měsícem

      Yes, they blew up the Old World, but it's back now. Age of Sigmar is still going strong. It was in the top four of miniatures lines middle of last year. Dropped outside the top five towards the end of the year, possibly because of the brand new edition that is about to land as people held on to their money to get the new stuff. There's no indication it's going anywhere or Old World will step into it's slot in the core product range. And now new skaven have arrived, I think sales are going to skyrocket.
      Lorescape aren't in production yet. They were drumming up interest in preparation for a Kickstarter later this year. One to watch, because they are injection molding in colour, without painting, to make the tiles at a lower price point.

    • @Merlynn132
      @Merlynn132 Před měsícem

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Then why bother bringing it back if AoS is a hit?
      So they're just way in the start up stage. I'm liking the injection molding but wouldn't it be cheaper to just make them one color and left the players paint them to be what they want?

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Před měsícem

      AoS and Warhammer Fantasy are very different games. AoS has been a top five bestselling game system for years (for a while it was number 2 only to 40K) and sells better than Fantasy Battle did. However, I think there has been a bit of a resurgence with rank and flank recently thanks to game systems from other companies. So about three years ago (around the time AoS was the number 2/3 bestselling miniatures line) Games Workshop started working on putting the Old World back into production and the first releases have been out a little while now. It's not being pushed in the same way as AoS, and AoS is just getting a big new release that will push sales right back up again.
      I assume once LoreScape have the system set up, the difference between producing colour or grey tiles is negligible, so they are aiming for the market that wants to get things on the table and start playing. Clearly they want to be a cheap source of tiles for HeroScape which has a big crowd of people who want to play pre-painted because they aren't into painting. Even Battletech gamers are probably going to appreciate pre-coloured grass and rock tiles so they can put their painting efforts into the mechs. I'm a painter and I would definitely choose pre-coloured tiles over grey, just because I think I would go mad painting hundreds of terrain pieces. If they can balance colour and value, it should do well.

      Mass Effect isn't based on any specific part of the video games. It was described as "like DLC," a sort of side-story to the main events. I don't know exactly where you are supposed to imagine it falls in the timeline.
      The 40th anniversary of Labyrinth is on the horizon so this is an attempt to create a more luxurious anniversary edition of the game.

With little time before the storm hits, Shepard must lead their squad through the cruiser to uncover its sinister secrets and keep them out of the hands of the enemy.
