    3rd edition is a masterpiece. every card, every expansion. I am proud to have it. it's the most fun board game I have ever played. i am looking for a beater Talisman that can be played on a normal table.

    Avalon Hill gifted me a copy of this. got it autographed but haven't had a chance to play yet! (never even played Talisman before)

    Note: there has been a change to the dice. In 4e the Talisman logo appeared on the 1 side. In 5e, the Talisman logo appears on the 6 side. It may take a bit to get used to that change!

    Manufacturing processes...board game smell...yah that'd be all the preservatives they used to pickle all the playertesters (looks like they did a better job than in that edition that just recycled Warhammer Fantasy army races...looking at you Skaven).
    Also liking that the kept the 'encounter number' but placed it in the right hand side of the window, because order of operations is a thing when drawing more than two encounter cards on a space (looking at you ruins).

    Played 5th edition last night. It's fine, but it needs expansions for more cards. It took about an 1hr and 45 minutes with 4 players, so playtime is faster than 2nd and 4th, but we usually finish a 3rd edition game with all expansions in less time.

    Not a fan of this game per se, but I am interested in picking it up with the co-op expansion. My kids and I have fun playing Heroquest for the co-op reasons. I definitely want these minis for other games too like Rangers of Shadowdeep.

    I wonder if they designed that board so that way no matter where your position at the table you’re still getting some kind of 3-D aspect it is a little jarring, but I think it’s kind of a cool idea

    "I will not give you the millimeter measurements because I don't have the tool" - Proceeds to whip out a tool with millimeter measurements readily available.
    The "Well that's not imperial units" side of your measuring tape is centimeter for the numbers and millimeter for the small notches between.

    Got my copy yesterday. Disappointed with the quality of some of the components and the look of some individual parts of the package...stuff like the font being similar to D&D games they've created/published, some of the art definitely looking AI created etc. I think what they are doing is creating art with AI and having artists touch them up...which is disappointing if true.
    One thing that I like is at close the front of the rulebook it tells new players exactly what's different from the last edition. I wish more games did that. I will definitely need to sleeve this game with how the cards feel in my hand.

    I would bet money that Hasbro will release HeroQuest & Talisman crossover expansion packs, enabling the characters from one to be used in the other game. I think there is a very large crossover between the two fandoms, and Hasbro would be foolish not to bridge them together via expansions.

    The rule for the true ending of the game is not included. Once, a person claims the Crown of Command, they can use it to telepathically deduct 1 life point from each player. During Each player's turn, the character with the crown rolls a 1D6. 1,2,3 = nothing happens. 4,5,6 = -1 life to all players. The player with the crown continues this attack until all other players are dead. If another player arrives at the center, the player must drop the crown and engage in combat with the rival character. The two characters continue this battle on their turns until one of the players is dead. Then, the surviving player picks up the crown and continues to launch a telepathic attack on all players on the board until the player on the board is the last player standing. It would be nice if Hasbro had included the rules for the endgame that Harris had created. I already know what you are going to say Ash: "Well, you can always home-brew it into the game." That is not the point.

    • @AshQuest
      @AshQuest  Před měsícem +3

      I wouldn't have said that. Homebrewing is a great way to introduce new elements into a game, but if you watch my videos, you know I stand firm on including legacy content where applicable. I'm one of the few who wanted the MotM ogres to stay at 10bp.
      I would have liked to have seen the combative ending including as another optional rule in the back of the book.

    • @suicidaleuphoria7012
      @suicidaleuphoria7012 Před měsícem

      @@AshQuest I looked through the cards. They lowered the cost of everything in the object inventory, so they removed some of the gold cards from the adventure deck, and that is why there is 100 cards instead of 104. I don’t know how this will affect gameplay because your chances of hitting a gold card is much lower now. The art on the cards looks better, but the characters still look bad.

      I usually imagine the scene when two players reach the Crown, that they'll be obsessively fighting for it like Frodo and Gollum for the One Ring inside Mt. Doom. It sucks that you have to home‑brew that rule in 5th Ed. 😤

    My hot take. Quality yet generic looking fantasy art, so genericly meh it feels AI even if it isn't. Ugliest board of any edition with soulless looking art, made worse being obscured by the giant god awful text boxes. And the person who decided on the perspective shift should be flogged in public. It's hilarious how much better that 4th edition expansion board looks in theme, art, flavor, text boxes and perspective. I will say the minis are waaaaay better than 4th (but still not nearly as cool as 3rd edition) and that flowchart is a nice touch... but those are the only good things about 5th.
    Other than that 1 out of 5 stars. Personally I think it looks really bad.
    I don't blame you though, so thumbs up!

      @@sethpeterson8261 The Adventure cards look amazing, but the character designs look terrible. There is no suspension of disbelief. They look like random twenty year olds at a fantasy cosplay convention. It is not just Talisman, but D&D has gone that route too. The perspective on the game board gives me a headache when I look at it.

    Used to play in the 80s. Looks like they ruined the spirit of the game. The artwork looks generiand awful compared toGary Chalk's original work. I guess it needed "modernising" for a "contemporary audience" like allbpur beloved 80s franchises.
