Seriously though, even if you remember it was her birthday I think it’s completely normal to not remember how old she was turning. Not everyone remembers those sorts of details. I just remember glowing hair, the frying pan and horse, and the poster with the nose looking weird, and something to do with a flower and lanterns. I remember liking the movie, but it’s just been so many years that I don’t really remember a lot of the details.
I think both you and Big Man are being a little uncharitable to each other lol.

I also hate that most of the disney princesses are so young. The stories they were based on were mostly written during the dark ages when disease and lack of understanding of sanitary practices made the average life span so short (around 30) that marrying in your teens was actually a good idea but it should not have been copied over into modern retellings. Now that we expect to live until around 90 and tend to marry at around 25-35 that should be reflected in media.
i think it was more of a 'marry em off when theyre young to get the burden off our hands' since women werent allowed to do anything else back then' and less of a 'lifespan' issue? they also married off women for power and wealth as well and it was a 'if you hit puberty you're fully grown' type of deal too
cus the reason why the lifespan is seen as "short" back then was because of the infant mortality rate being so high up, lowering the avg lifespan to 30 when really people who survived the most vulnerable stages survived until 65-80

It's actually untrue that people had shorter lifespans. The "average" is misleading because it's skewed by infant mortality rates, which is why people had so many kids. If someone lived past childhood there was a high likelihood they'd have a normal lifespan.

You realise the princesses are royalty and most royalty get married in their teens, and start being arranged for marriage not long after they'd hit puberty. A lot of times beforehand.
Plus, Disney Princess movies were created in like the 60s, when young marriage wasn't uncommon.
The movies are also generally based in the years where pedophilia and such didn't exist, that's only been around for like what 150 years? Give or take.
And they're stories, for kids, either way. If you're worried about your kids thinking that's good or normal these days, teach them that they're just movies. Stories. Not to be taken literally.
Actually in the middle ages women married for the first time at an average age of around 24, the only time they did so as teens was nobility in times of upheaval to cement alliances and even then it was rare for them to sleep together until she was older

Just cus I hear this all the time and I’m tired of the misinformation;
Eugene is 22 in the Tangled movie (technically 23 cus orphan doesn’t know his actual birthday, until show rolled around) the 26 age comes from his age at the end of the show after the 3 years passed in the course of the show, there’s even a whole episode about him being self conscious about looking good for his age cus he found out he was one year older than he thought.
The age gap is still pretty bad but it’s not 8-9 years-
