I see the horns. Slayer is bringing out your final form. Everything is going as planned.😉 😈
This is my personal favorite Slayer song. I only saw them perform this live once from all the Slayer shows I attended. They hadn't played it live in decades by that point so I had no reason to believe I'd hear it live. Then that opening, evil beginning segment began and I started freaking out to the point where my friends who were with me thought there was something wrong with me. I couldn't even talk or make sounds and was just shaking. Then that F*cking riff kicked in and I screamed so loud "YEEEESSSSSS!" that I actually blew my voice out for the rest of the week.
One of only three times that's ever happened to me since I started going to shows regularly starting in 1997. The other two being Metallica playing Master of Puppets and yelling "MASTER!" and my voice stopped working then and there and Iron Maiden playing Powerslave and having a similar reaction to this song the instant I heard that howling and evil laughter.

I once spent a season in the abyss. That season was a summer back towards the tail end of high school as part of this volunteering/community-service outreach program, and the abyss turns out to look and feel a lot like a nursing home where the old people still like to party before the end. I thought it just got a bad rap, but it turns out it can simply take a while to see what everyone is always talking about abyss-wise. For me the turning point was when all the new people like me started growing horns, except where most people grew the usual two, for some reason I only got one growing straight out of my forehead -- one guy even started growing these two, small, extra horns out of the tops of each of his regular two horns, and he just seemed to think he was the bees knees always preening around everywhere -- then all the two-horners started calling me names, never inviting me to the parties, rituals, orgies, etc. unless is was for some kind of sick comedy relief at my expense. I've only felt so embarrassed like five or six other times, so that one was up there definitely in the realm of bad, like if you'd been making out with the concept of bad itself all night and then it left without giving you its phone number.
I'd eventually cut my one, stupid looking horn off and call it quits. It was all getting to be such a drag, I knew I didn't belong. I remember one day somebody's soulless little grandkid was visiting with family, had a baseball, covered it in something and lit it in on fire, shouted, "Fireball!" and threw it straight into my groin as I was walking out to the parking lot, doubling me over to the ground, and he called me a "dork," actually got high-fives from everyone as I was rolling on the pavement. I guess the place was pretty evil, if mostly for the sake of having all the same jerks as everywhere else, except even the place itself was kind of a jerk -- so pretty much exactly like Earth except somehow more aware of what its doing, and when everyone is laughing at you it's still the same except slightly more loud in your head, hard to explain, plus everything and everyone stank in that way you can almost barely stand beyond the point of being polite and a not saying anything about it. A mixed bag of memories that grew more unfair, grim, and hurtful over time, I'd say don't get any hopes up about those abysses (unless you're like Mr. Two Little Horns On Top Of His Two Big Horns that cool son of a bitch), and I can totally vouch for what Slayer seems to have been so annoyed about on this album.

does anyone else love how Jeff comes in over the top of Kerry's solo on this one? or is it just me, this is like the perfect Slayer sounding solo that best represents them, like you hear the soloing on this song and you know yep, that's Slayer, and yes Dave does slap them drums like.. insert DV joke here, his last album before he left and formed Grip Inc, you should react to Bloodline or God Hates Us All

Honestly, "Disciple" is my favorite slayer song. It's off the album, "God Hates us All". He came up with the name of the album when he was stuck in traffic. Love the videos!! You are freaking gorgeous!

I saw Slayer the first time and last time they played at MSG. 92 & 2019. I’ve been a life long fan. I would usually give you a song from their 80s catalog but I’m going g to give you 2 of their later songs from the God Hates Us All cd released on Sept 11 2001. “Disciple” and “Threshold” are two joints worth checking out ✌🏼

It is very subtle, but at precisely 2:55 when the drum beat kicks back in, Dave hits the cymbal and lets it ring - he deliberately doesnt hit the ride - then hits the snare CRACK! and then into the ride. Letting the cymbal ring longer, and not play the ride generates atmosphere and makes the guitars sound like they are coming out of rhe darkness.

When I 1st heard Slayer, a very long time ago. Animal was my favorite Muppet from the Muppet Show and when I 1st heard Slayer I pictured Animal playing drums for them. Been hooked since. Dave Lambordo is my favorite drummer to listen too. There are a lot of great Drummers. Kieth Moon, Buddy Rich, Niel Pert, John Bohnem just to name a few but Hands down I can watch and Listen too Dave Lombardo all day long, his Fills are Legendary

The mighty Slayer! The closest I ever got to dying at a concert. The Slayer fans were beasts and you had to be prepared to go to war for 90 minutes plus (depending on the venue, of course). Intensity x10

as you said, the song 'elevates' you. that hits the nail on the head for me. while the song is a little slower paced than what the band was known for at the time, it does touch on a fear, an anxiety, that amplifies the song to another level. that has always resonated with me. also it sounds just badass
