Lindsey Buckingham speaks out after being fired from Fleetwood Mac

  • This taught me a very important lesson: never speak when you're recording something and under the influence of wine. Sorry for being such a heckler, guys. 😔 But more importantly, it reminded me that Lindsey Buckingham is one of the most humble and gracious people. After being unceremoniously fired by his band - the band that he helped to catapult to superstardom - he remained dignified, classy, and respectful when he could have dragged them for all the lies they've been telling. I am grateful to have been there to hear him talk about this for the first time and I hope he takes the time he needs, gathers his thoughts and feelings, and eventually sits down with someone and really opens up about the truth! Thank you, Lindsey, for everything you've given us for so many decades!

      @scottjamescouperyou dont know what your talking about. Lindsey Buckingham was the creative genius behind fleetwood mac. He was the co-lead singer and main songwriter with nicks and mcvie, the sole guitarist, band producer and creative leader. Without him the band would have faded out of existence and Stevie Nicks would have remained working as a waitress. He worked on every single song with the rumours line up of fleetwood mac. The reason why stevie nicks has a more succesful solo career than lindsey buckingham is because her songs are more comercial and mainstream while buckinghams was more experimental. Firing Lindsey buckingham would be like firing john lennon or paul mccartney from the beatles or brian wilson from the beach boys. Its an idiotic decision and the remaining members will realise it once fleetwood mac has finally ended

    • @jamestreacy1
      @jamestreacy1 Pƙed 4 lety +5

      @scottjamescouper If it wasnt for Lindsey Buckingham stevie nicks would have no solo career and no proper songs. Buckingham made her poems into songs as well as wrote his own songs that he sang lead on some of which were hits and some were just on the album but many of them are some of fleetwood macs best songs. I would recomend some of those songs for you to listen if you werent so ignorent in solely listening to the hits. Seriously understand that he was fucking important to the band creativly and without him at least 75 percent of all the songs to come out of the rumours era line up of fleetwood mac would not exist in their full form without him.

      @scottjamescouper ever heard of big love ? Go your own way ? tusk ? The chain ? Second hand news ? Never going back again ? Lindsey buckingham has hits of his own in fleetwood mac. He even got a solo hit with holiday road thanks to being in national lampoons vacation. Its the band themselves have stated that buckingham was the one who drove the band creativly. Christine mcvie, mick fleetwood and even stevie nicks have said it in interviews. Its not even got to do with democrats and republicans and all that bullshit and in fact in case you dont know stevie nicks its also a democrat as well.

    • @jamestreacy1
      @jamestreacy1 Pƙed 4 lety +1

      @scottjamescouper go your own way was actually fleetwood macs first top ten hit which he wrote and sang the lead vocals. It is considered a rock classic and one of the greatest rock songs of the 70s. He also co wrote the previous songs i mentioned which are also seen as classics. You dont know what you are talking about. Your also taking away from the fact that christine mcvie also wrote a lot of hits like you make loving fun, little lies and everywhere.

    • @jamestreacy1
      @jamestreacy1 Pƙed 4 lety +1

      @scottjamescouper BULLSHIT. Stevie cant play an instrument while buckingham is a master on the guitar so much so that when he wasnt in fleetwood mac they had to replace him with 2 guitarists. Buckingham was no side man. Jesus christ mate are you even a fan of the band fleetwood mac cause from what i can tell the only member you seem to have time to praise is stevie nicks.

      If I was in my late 60's early 70's I would not be waiting around for Lindsey B either. Lindsey isn't the ultimate FWM "victim" nor is he the ultimate king of FWM. This saga has been going on for decades. It is also part of the allure and attraction of the band. Both Lindsey and FWM are going to draw and LB is going to continue making money hand over fist with FWM songs especially now that they are going on tour, even without him. Sales are going to go up again. New fans are going to discover Lindsey's music and buy it. Does his songwriting credits magically disappear now that he is not in the band? Not hardly. And yes there are actually other legendary musicians in FWM, including the bass player and drummer who the band is actually NAMED after. And Chritie McVie, amazing. Finn and Campbell? Hands down legends. Nicks? There is nothing more to be said. This thing is going to do just fine. Just a few upset fans that are going to kick dust until they can get over it. But me. I am going to buy a ticket and enjoy myself with a big fat smile on my face, Lindsey or no Lindsey.

      I think Lindsey is trying to be respectful towards everyone including his old band mates. He is not up there screaming, "FUCK STEVIE!!!!" I think he really loves her and I think she loves him too. But is it reasonable to have to put up with someone else's demands all the time? I don't know what happened with them. No one knows. Everyone is guessing. It seems there are "Rumors". But is this a time for fuck you, fuck this, fuck that. I would say no. I would say it is time to get on with our lives because no one is getting any younger. I would say if Lindsey was asking them to wait around for another couple of years for him to do his thing, I don't see how that is reasonable. If she wanted Mike C to come along and Lindsey wouldn't have it.....ah I don't know. I am conflicted over that. He says 43 years. But it was never a solid 43 years. It was some years of him "going his own way" too. So this isn't as black and white as much as 3rd graders would want it to be.

    But, where would FM and Nicks be without Lindsey? She never got over him and she hates him for it.

    • @lennyhooper5572
      @lennyhooper5572 Pƙed 4 lety +2

      @scottjamescouper Much of what you've written is factually incorrect. First of all, Lindsey wrote several big hits for the band, including "Go Your Own Way" (Billboard Hot 100 #10)---which was, incidentally, Fleetwood Mac's first top-ten hit in the US, "Tusk" (#8) and "Big Love" (#5).
      Buckingham is also the wealthiest (former) member of that band---apparently, he blew far less of his earnings on cocaine and booze than Nicks or Fleetwood. (That being said, a portion of his reported nine figure net worth has come from lucrative real estate ventures.)
      It's also important to consider that since Buckingham was the de facto producer of the group during its commercial heyday, he was largely responsible for creating and refining the unified Fleetwood Mac sound. If anyone carried the band during that period, it was Buckingham. Behind the Mask, the first Mac album released after he left the band in '87 was, at best, subpar. That all but forgotten album only served to remind people that, as producer and musical leader, Buckingham was the brains and beating heart behind that group for more than a decade. (Behind the Mask sold little more than one million copies, while its Buckingham-produced predecessor, Tango in the Night, sold more than 15 million units.) Then again, well-informed people have always known that Buckingham's sophisticated arrangements vastly improved upon Ms. Nicks's often rudimentary demo recordings.
      Later on, during her solo career, Nicks would repeatedly rely on the likes of Tom Petty to elevate her crude material.
      And as far as his solo catalog goes---listen, if Buckingham wanted to release embarrassing hack-work in order to pad his already impressive bank account, then he could've fashioned albums closer to the mediocre shouty rock that Stevie Nicks has visited upon an unsuspecting music world since 1981. (One might even ask what, in the end, do sales figures really say about the quality of music when one Justin Bieber has sold more than 150 million albums---compared to Nicks's roughly 30 million albums sold during her solo career? Does that make Mr. Bieber five times more important than Ms. Nicks? I don't think so.) For four decades, Buckingham has chosen to use his solo career to experiment with sounds and ideas that can sometimes be alienating for the casual consumer. That's called artistic integrity, not failure.

    Lindsey certainly didn't deserve what happened. Mick is just as much to blame as Stevie. He should have given her the same ultimatum Lindsey gave him, "Either both or neither". They both owe Lindsey a great deal. He was mainly responsible for the success of each of them and the band as a whole.
    Even with all that has happened Lindsey is always so classy and diplomatic. He has never shown anger or animosity or directly blamed anyone.
    Pretty sure he also didn't appreciate the nasty comments about Stevie since she likely still has a place in his heart. People need to be more sensitive to his feelings instead of being so blunt and rude.
    Now that they've lost Christine let's hope they all realize how fragile life can be and can reconcile their differences. It would be great if they could get together for a tribute concert. Meanwhile, it's good that Lindsey has a family and has finally found some happiness in his life. Wishing him the best! ❀

Now that being said @ 1:35 min imho it is his business to speak out from his "holding court" behind the mic and speak to whatever he pleases to and I will hear him out. The only member of Fleetwood Mac that has the power to hold up the band is Stevie Nicks because They need her more than she needs them. She's the ONLY member to have a very long successful solo career and she's also the most popular member of Fleetwood Mac. Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood are the most "significant" members of this group. If you don't have Mick and Stevie you don't have Fleetwood Mac!!! Christine Mcvie has actually written the most hits within the group so she's very important too but MOST people are going to see the Queen of Rock Stevie Nicks!!!!

      You seriously think that copyright law is going to allow them to "divvy up his take"? Not hardly. Lindsey owns a lot of the songwriting rights to those songs. They don't just magically go away. He is still going to have a nice fat paycheck coming to him and probably even more now that they are going on tour again. He may feel bad about not being with FWM and I feel bad for him there. But he ain't no po boi just walkin' down the street kicking some cans and rocks. That is far from the truth.

They did Lindsey dirty. I do believe he is controlling and a perfectionist, just from watching some documentary's. He is still willing to get back with them. I'm controlling and a perfectionist too, not so much now that I'm older. It isn't fun.. I think Stevie and Lindsey just clash over wanting their own way's. "My band" of 43 years... HIS band???! How dare he! Fleetwood Mac, remember, were formed by Mick Fleetwood and John McVie in the late 1960s, along with the legendary Peter Green. The Fleetwood Mac that Lindsay Buckingham and Stevie Nicks were invited to join in 1976 (which by then also included the wonderful Christine McVie, John's wife) was another incarnation of the band (and very different from the original blues band that FM 1 were). How dare Lyndsay Buckingham call FM II "my band"...

If you are seriously admitting that you are unaware of Peter Green's existence/talent/influence among other guitarists, etc., then you are much in the minority...Like I said, seems I hit a sensitive spot. "Mick formed the band", you say ??? WRONG ! Blues guitarist PETER GREEN started the band in 1966/67. And a great blues guitarist he was. The band was originally called "Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac". Sadly enough I happen to be olde enough to remember their beginnings. John McVie was added shortly after they formed. Be careful with your posts and facts. And without Lindsay's exquisite guitar playing the second coming of FM would NOT have been the success it was. The current tour without Lindsay is a "bust" ! That's a fact ! Stevie, Christine, Mick, and John all know he's missed.
