- This is an AWESOME, very rare 1981 Lindsey Buckingham interview from a 70's/80's era talk show!! (He was on to promote his (1st) solo album ~ Law And Order. He looks so darn good!! As always, he is so nice and down to earth too. I LOVE this!! This is one of my all-time favorite interviews!!

Sorry about the not so great picture quality. If I ever come across a better version of it, I will repost this. At any rate, I still think that it's very enjoyable to watch.
I would have loved to have included the two songs that he sang (lip synced) along with this too, but the quality gets even worse for them. Plus, I wasn't sure if they would be ok to post (copyright-wise). So for now, just this AWESOME interview, which is the best part.
Enjoy!! ~Jackie (: - Hudba
Lindsey is not only extremely intelligent and articulate but an incredibly talented musician and guitarist too...Amazing guy.
GOD he's one of the most beautiful men ... EVER !
Yes, ever!!!
For sure!!!!!
He is an abusive narcissist.
I love how well he explains himself. From early on he has always sounded so centered & seems to know exactly where his head is at. You'll notice though, after about five minutes of talking he seems like he's had enough, & his fingers get itchy around 5:11, I had to laugh at that. Still he is so polite & like Jackie says, very down-to-earth, for someone of his stature. Thank you Jackie, this was really a great snapshot from that time period.
I love him so much. I can't take my eyes off of him when he plays the guitar. It's like magic.
Very very nice to see some footage of an interview with Lindsey. He has GOT to be the most underrated guitarist of all time. He's phenomenal. He pretty much blows away any other guitarist of the time, and most of them from today too. He's just....freaking amazing. (Merv Griffin, on the other hand...I had forgotten what a crappy interviewer he was. lol)
Thank you so much for this! Lindsey is a gorgeous human being💗inside & out.
I've always admired Lindsey's unique way of doing music and presenting himself. He's not typical or everyday, he's iconoclastic but not too strange and extravagant or eccentric like Prince or MJ for example, that's just an example, so take it easy now :o)
Nor is Linsey conceited or pretending to be humble like Bono. Lindey's just the man, down to earth intelligent and highly creative.
WOW! Just saw him in concert 6/30/13. The man brought it and ROCKED for 2 1/2 hours, no breaks! Unbelievable energy. Solid vocals, guitar was on fire. His stamina was truly amazing. We are mid 50's, still wondering how he does it. He is quite simply phenomenal! And to see the high regard he and Stevie hold for one another, even though they've been through hell. Quite touching. One class act! Go see him in concert with FM. In the Fall they're rockin the UK, then going Down Under in Winter.
I agree - In some Rolling Stone "100 top guitarists of all time" silly issue, his name wasn't even mentioned. I know a lot of his early guitar prowess was relatively hidden behind electronic noise and other production things in both Mac songs and his solo work, but if you ever see him play live, he's on fire! And his recent work totally proves that! Wish he was still a household name to the average listener rather than just fans!
He's number 100, which is a joke!!
Should be in the top ten at the very least !!!!!!!! ❤
You can see the V-shaped musician "big band" concept idea Lindsey speaks of in the video for 'Trouble'.
lindsey is the reason I play guitar.
As a Stevie Nicks fan, I didn 't really appreciate Lindsey, until they(Fleetwood Mac) made an album/CD without him, and it sounded awful! A true genius.....
Yeah and his solo records show he was the force behind them. Though i always heard he was a read dick.
He look so different with a little baby fat.
I didn’t think the Fleetwood Mac “Behind The Mask” album was bad. It’s not an album I go back to listen to these days but at the time it was sorta interesting, though would have been more so with Lindsey involved. Stevie and Christine had their moments as did the two new guys. But that “Time” album that came out a few years later almost feels like an imposter band invaded a Christine solo album.
Not true,,, although I love Lindsey and truly appreciate all his hard work, and his genius,,,,,Behind The Mask was a great record, and one thing that I really loved about it was you could hear and feel ALL the band members in every song, whereas that wasn’t always the case during the Lindsey years. Just my two cents
They made the dance with the original line up
Thanks for the excellent footage of Lindsey!! He's my favorite!!
@kcgirlgeek I agree! And I think it speaks volumes that when he did leave Fleetwood Mac it took not two but THREE guitarists to "replace" him!
His singing voice is so much stronger than his actual voice.
Who's here in 2020 ..? I watched some random video of FM in the studio during The Tusk recordings and like 5 days later this popped into my feed. Feel like I just walked into the past with most of the comments being 11 years old lol. CZcams ancient history relics here.
thank you so much for that rare video! I love Lindsay, greetings from Brazil/Italy
Wow what a great interview, I love it, Thanks very much Jackie.
This guy is a great interview. Thanks for the posting!
Great Interview. Thanks For Loading.
Lindsey and Stevie have always made the point that making solo albums around Fleetwood Mac albums is what has given Fleetwood Mac is longevity.
i remember seeing this when it showed back in the day. its nice to see it now and really delve into it. i have never seen lindsey so relaxed and funny. thanx for posting!
I LOVE that curly hair of his too!! (:
He's adorable. Thanks for posting.
He followed through with TROUBLE ❤🎸❤
I love this era with him. hes looks fantastic XD
He's changed his hair a lot over the years.
Very cool!! I love that he mentions the bay area and certain cities. I am from san jose (still in the area). Thanks for the awedsome vid.
Thank you so much for this great video, Jackie. Lindsey is a genius!!!
The "Flying V" big band-influenced touring line-up idea Lindsey discusses here was actually attempted on his 1992-1993 "Out of the Cradle" solo tour! I caught the St. Paul show in '93 and it was incredible. The number of back-up musicians must have cost Lindsey a fortune.
Lindsey's so articulate, genuine, and charming here. Totally likeable.
Rumours was the number one selling album until "Thriller" take the top title in 82. It must be neck in neck with darksideofthemoon and backinblack.
Nice interview Merv!!!
You're VERY welcome. Thanks for another great comment!! I agree ~ He does seem more relaxed than usual. This is one of my all-time fave interviews!! (:
Merv is something else but Lindsey was and is a very solid genuine person (what little we see of him in interviews).
He would not let LB finish a sentence
Cool find! Really insightful. Thanks!
That's AWESOME!! You're so lucky!! (:
Glad that you enjoyed this!! Thanks for your great comment!! I agree ~ He is phenomenal!! (:
Glad to hear that!! Thanks for your comment!! (:
You're VERY welcome. Glad that you love this one as much as I do. I couldn't wait to post it!! (:
He is very articulate 😍
He was the brains and creativity behind FM
Thanks so much!! (:
Thanks for your comment and for watching my video!! I agree ~ He is always well spoken. (:
3:19 to 3:26 I love when Lindsey explained how much is the Romours through the years and Lindsey look down for a slit second and look back up and like yeah without saying it haha
Glad that you love this one as much as I do. Thanks a bunch for your comment!! (:
If you watch interviews of Stevie around this same time, their demeanor and way of speaking is so similar you can tell they had been together. I know that sounds weird but check it out
Thanks for your great comment and for viewing my video(s)!! You're VERY kind. (:
You're VERY welcome. Thanks so much for your comment and for viewing my video!! (:
I REALLY LOVE this one too!! Thanks for your comment!! (:
You're VERY welcome. Thanks so much for your comment!! I totally agree with you ~ He is a genius!! (:
I totally agree with you. Thanks for your great comment and for watching my video!! (:
With out a Leg to stand on brilliant track wish Buckingham Nicks was on CD. Lindsey is a great singer and musician.
You're VERY welcome. Thank you for your kind comments and for viewing my videos!! (:
Oh, I loved the Tusk album. I guess to each his own. (:
Merv: “How angry are they for you making a solo album?”
Lindsey: “they want to fire me”
+ Veer Chasm They finally got their chance and did it - late but they got their jollies in the end.
You're VERY welcome. Thank you for viewing my video and for your kind comment!! (:
I had to laugh at your reference to "a 70's/80's era talk show". Merv Griffin was pretty big back then. He was like the Regis Philbin of that time. I guess in 30 years, someone will post a video about [famous artist] on "a 2000s era talk show" (Regis).
Tony Whitaker + They definitely wont be of the caliber of Lindsey Buckingham.
Merv Griffin was on too late for me to watch in the 1970s as his show was broadcast on CJAY/CKY (Winnipeg) at midnight. I'd see the promos durng the daytime and wish I could have stayed up to watch
I agree ~ He does look GREAT in this!! Thanks for your comment!! (:
Lindsey is damn good! Love watching him do his stuff.
I like his Law And Order album, but my fave is Out Of The Cradle. I got this clip via a past trade that I did with someone. When this show aired back in 1981, (sadly) I wasn't able to watch it since it wasn't available in my area. I remember being so upset about it. (:
I totally agree with you. Thanks for your comment!!
(:
You're VERY welcome. Thanks a bunch for viewing my video!! (:
my god this is an amaazing interview ! how did you come across it ?
i love at about 5.15 he just quickly plays the guitar haha
You're VERY welcome. Thank you for your kind comment and for viewing my video!! (:
You're VERY welcome. Glad that you LOVE this one as much as I do. Thanks for your comment!! (:
What the hell -- you cut off the song!
Yes, he is originally from northern CA. ~ Palo Alto/Atherton up by San Francisco. Thanks for watching my video and for your comment!! (:
what a cool guy
I do. I think he looks GREAT in this interview!! (:
Thanks for your great comment!! (:
Believe me, I wish I could. Thanks for your comment!! (:
Gosh I saw a recent interview and they’re literally still asking Lindsey the same questions and he’s always still working on his relationship with Stevie lol
Love the guy so talented and so underrated as a guitarist
Was the song (to be played at the end of this video) not included because of copyright issues? Yes -- mentioned in older comments.
Could you possibly upload the performances? :)
Merv Griffin is a true tool.
Buckingham taking the high road.
" won't u lay me down in the tall grass and let me do my stuff ... "
he looks so much like marc bolan on that interview its mad!
Carregou o grupo. Nas. Costa. O. Carra. E. FerrA tanto. Como cantor. E musico
wow, with Merv Griffin...who knew
I forgot he didn’t always play a Turner Model 1.
Sorry, but I am not able to post it due to the whole copyright thing. (See my description.) Glad that you enjoyed this great interview. (:
Burlingame! I dated a girl from Burlingame, but enough about me, look at Lindsey, he looked so young...
@4windriver You sure you're not thinking of 'Red Rover' from F.Mac's 'Say You Will' album?
Yes, I do, but I can't post it due to copyright reasons. I know that it will be sited and pulled if I did. Sorry. (:
Com certeza, um dos olhos mais bonitos do rock 'n'roll
I agree. (:
you should post the songs however bad they are.. thanks for this!
I had forgotten how uncomfortable it was to watch Merv Griffin interview his guests. He would push his face up too close and just stare into his guest’s eyes with a dreamy look on his face.
😂
Manfro
3:00 creeper Cal, stalking Lindsey
The flying V idea is visually done in his “Trouble” video
Hey, do you happen to have the video for "It was I" recorded? I haven't seen it a long time ago.
OMG! Setzer stole Lindsey's big band idea!!!
Well I for one HATED the Stray Cats
He was right about not having another Rumours and Tusk came out after that..That album was good and very different but the record label execs thought it was a failure...
record execs think in dollars but really dont have a clue about good music ,there thought is money and how we can use these good people till they drop making millions for them
I know for a fact that they will be sited since someone had posted the two songs in the past and they were both yanked. Sorry, but I don't want any violations. I would LOVE to post them, but it's just not worth it.. (:
Oh please, why did you cut IT WAS I off? It's my very favorite Lindsey's song... is it possible that you could post it, if you don't like the song please I'll buy you the video!!!
THE COOLEST
pooped out. lol
Zseniális.
Those initial questions are so stupid, trying to challenge Lindsey. I'm glad that he took it easily.
