  • We’re finished with our powerhead rebuild on our Yamaha F225 outboard, and in this video, we’ll show you how to install the powerhead on your Yamaha F225.
This is a relatively simple process, aided by the fact that we have a cherry picker and chain hoist in our shop. John will show you how to get the powerhead in position and then bolt it into place. We’ll also make a few electrical connections.
Read how to do this job step by step: www.boats.net/...

I had to replace the oil pan on my dad's mercury 150 once. I changed the oil and filters but much to my dismay I over tightened the drain spout and cracked the inner lip that holds the spout.. not a certified man by any means but dude, what a chore. I was surprised that I got the engine back together. not a yamaha comment that's for sure, but having to do your own maintenance is challenging because we don't live near any dealership. outboard is from Florida and we're up in northwest coast of Alaska. watching this really deepens your knowledge of what to do with other outboards regardless of the brand. awesome video! hope you all a great new year 👊

Hello John, I need to say good work .
My F225 , dropped 2 valves in the lower port cylinder , put a hole in the piston , bent the push rod , damaged the head beyond repair ,
I was quoted ridiculous $k’s to repair this engine 900 hours ,I was told hat you should get 5000 hours , any way through the COVID-19, I could get a new head casket ,so everything else has come from the wreckers , I was lucky to get a very good engine head , of which I had it dismantled checked and used the valves that come with it . Installed new valve guides . Your video have helped me no end thank you .
I had never seen a f225 before this engine , I am a about to start up today , I have done the timing myself , the Yamaha dealer said to write off the engine , so over the last 3 months of spare time I have installed the piston, push rod .Your video so precise step by step , and a great deal of nervous moments, I have got it all closed up ready to start all for under $2k . Thank you .

I have the same engine with (now) 1200 hours, It was on a boat I bought which had 996 hours clocked when I brought it home. I agree, this video series has helped me out a lot as well.
      :-)

Did anyone else hear the beep of the torque wrench when he tightened the bolts only by feel, in the tough to reach cavity? LMAO!

Just a suggestion if you dont already have one a small fiberglass wiring fish can fix some of those wiring mistakes when those wire are ran to the wrong side. If possible to fish back over with out disassembling to many parts. Like I said only a suggestion. I know nothing about outboard motors but car and inboard are no problem. I'm working on an exhaust leak on a 1997 Suzuki DS20 HP outboard which keeps killing my motor with the cowl cover on and parts are hard to find. So your videos are very very helpful thank you so much.

I'm replacing the engine holder gasket on my 2013 Suzuki DF140A. I recently had the powerhead off to replace the oil pump, and after putting it back together I had to pull the powerhead again to clean the oil strainer. Anyway, I replaced the gasket the first time, but reused it the second time. I hoped the material around the exhaust/water jacket would seal but it did not. I have a new gasket arriving this week, but was wondering if some black RVT would ok to use around that exhaust portion of the gasket. This gasket is a metal gasket, and was not leaking after replacing it the first time. It was only after installing it a second time that it began leaking.
