35:00 as always, bit of sense here - glad to hear it. I get tradition and technique, but when you have batters playing a yard outside their crease to "counter swing" - with no such leeway at the bowler's end (or, say, bowlers overstepping to counter a "lack of pace in the pitch"?)- and then not even attempting to get back in the crease the moment they've reacted to the ball, it's all fair game. (How about a "playing condition" where a fast bowler can overstep to the extent that a batter is out of their crease BEFORE the ball is in play.)

One final point (sorry). You're doing the classic thing of praising Bazball to the moon when England wins, and slaughtering all things English when it loses. Lots of the English press does this. Not every test has to be a referendum on Bazball. All that happened was the home team won the toss in India, batted well, Bumrah intervened with a special spell and the away team couldn't make a record score in the 4th innings. We've seen this a billion times, whatever the style of cricket. It's just that England's style of cricket got them a bit closer than their old methods would've.

It's totally fine to criticise England's approach or individual performances within it. Lots of English people do it constantly. Perhaps you're not aware of this? I guess their argument re: Root's dismissal and other things that are/seem reckless is that if they play traditionally, they're not as good as India (which I'm sure we'd all agree with) and they probably get bowled out for 180, so they are giving themselves a bit of a chance by playing differently. Let's be honest, if this group of England players plays normal cricket in India, it's 5-0 to the home team every time, and probably innings defeats. We have 2/3 great players, and then lots of good or inexperienced players. So I do think you are thinking about it in slightly the wrong way, and getting swept up in the media bullshit and press conferences. I accept that sometimes England players play into that by things that they say.

You're overthinking Bazball. It's just a positive mantra for the players to express themselves, and to give them a chance to overachieve their relatively limited ability. The rest of the stuff in the press is bullshit and nonsense. You do sound a bit rattled, and there's no need to be. I get that it comes from the bullshit English superiority complex, and I get that people find all things around English cricket to be obnoxious and objectionable. We were mocked when we were a meek team of public school boys, we are hated if we're a bit more brash and mouthy. And given historical crimes and attitudes from us, that's a tiny burden we have to live with in the wider context of what we've done, so I'm not complaining about that, just observing it. But also, own and acknowledge that you basically wouldn't like any version of England whatever they do (and that's also fine and understandable).
