The highly anticipated Yamaha Raider 1900 vs. Suzuki Boulevard M109R duel has finally come! Today we bring you the footage from the race! For the record, we're not professionals and this was not well organized/planned. Be warned! Still, it's a fun one! Eventually, I would love to get all the muscle bikes head to head against each other: yamaha road star warrior 1700, honda vtx 1800, triumph rocket, harley vrod muscle (night rod), kawasaki meanstreak, yamaha vmax, etc. But today we'll enjoy the raider vs m109r!

Raider or M109R? Which one for the win?
I vote for the metal fenders.
Raider, just because I'am a Yamaha fan..
Atleast of the snowmobile 😂
@@ericdolby1622 hahaha! I hear ya! That's one of my biggest gripes with the m109r (and some of the other metric cruisers) - all the plastic gives it somewhat of a cheap feel.
Jon, you're definitely the supreme rider, your buddy was redlining every gear on the Raider, granted I know the Raider doesn't have a tach, but you don't run a V-Twin to the top. V-Twins pull from low to mid. Either way much respect to the two of you for the video.
Jon's Moto Garage 109r for sure!! No doubt the raider is one of the gnarliest looking power cruisers on the market. But 9R is really fast for ab twin. So is the Honda VTX 1800..... which is why you need to throw went into this mix. I’ve pretty much decided that if my VTX ever quits running I will get an M109R. But my Honda has almost 120,000 miles on it and still hauls balls. The VTX 1800 would probably lose to the 109 but only by a tiny bit. It would be interesting to see.
I have an 07 M109R LE, an 08 Raider, an 09 Stratoliner, and a 2019 VMAX. The 109 is a little faster than the air cooled bikes. None of them can touch the VMAX in horsepower, handling and breaking. The only thing the VMAX can't pass is a gas station as it has a small tank and gets terrible mileage. Variety is the spice of life.
I remember in the 90's when the VMAX first came out. It was the fastest. The V4 is an incredible design, and it wouldn't surprise me if it was still top dog.
@@advorlando98551985 they came out bro
I wanna be like you when I grow up. I have an 08 vrod nightrod special, and an 09 raider. But I also want an m109r, a VMAX FOR SUUUURE, and a hayabusa.
The engineering focus is very different for these two. The Raider is the Torque King between the two hence that satisfying 123Lb-Ft of torque @ 2250rpm railin' down hard on the pavement(And only Roughly a 100hp peak at around 4.5), but it's not a high revving HP Monster, it's a little diesel. Whereas the M109R is a torquey machine with a peak of 118Lb-Ft@3200RPM but has more horse than torque at 127HP/6200RPM Peak but revs significantly higher. The M109R was meant to still be pretty damn quick for the man who's wife says "The Busa has got to go, you need a cruiser". The Raider was meant to always feel incredible and have consistent mini-hoss pull.
Power Aside, The handling of the raider is a reflection of incredible engineering, CG and Weight Division as I have customers who are 5'4 to 6'7 Riding Raiders. It's 760Lbs that feels like a well planted 550. Whereas the M109 is much more of a pig, handles more like a fridge. If you two were to do a race dragging peg and pushing limits, you'd find the nimble Raider would take the crown with more concentrated power vs power spread out over a wider rpm range. 109 wins on straights. Raider everywhere else.
Exactly everyone talks about the most powerful bike but there completely different not only is the 109 and the Honda vtx programmed more towards speed but they also run shaft drive systems and there's a huge power loss when comparing shaft to belt drive
I had an 06 m109, the only other bike I've had the chance to ride that holds a candle to the "pulls like a pissed off freight train" feel of it was my 04 vulcan 2000
Both are slugs next to a Raider. M109R has all top end and the VN2000 is a towtruck whereas the Raider is a muscle bike@@Ali.g.97
Never owned either one but a huge fan of both. Love the style of both bikes . thanks for the video .
I've had the C109 RT , and loved it. My next one will be the M109. I love the way they look, and they run like crazy !
Oooooooweeeee thanks for the video man that's good stuff. That m109r is a beast!!!! It looks like that m109r had hyabusa power in a cruiser. I love it. You don't see these type of videos much about cruiser I appreciate your time brother God Bless you safe riding.
Hahaha! Thanks, man! Such a fun bike!
@@JonsMotoGarage if you check out my page you'll see the cruisers I have had and I just sold the Suzuki Katana classic bike it was in perfection. And I sold the other two last year. IAM in the mood for a hyabusa now.
Well that was kinda how I thought it would go but didn't want to admit it, great video man!
Hahahah...we all live in a bit of denial. Raider is still a complete MONSTER! And a bit more well rounded imo. Thanks, brotha!
There are 109 cubic reasons why I bought the Suzuki. Would love to see a drag against that yellow camaro tho
Yeah, like um both , but I've liked the m109 since its inception . Like your videos too Jon. You don't make shit up , your humble and keep things straight up .
Great channel.
Thanks, brotha!
Hey man, I just stumbled on your channel, I like what you’re doing comparing different bikes for whatever reason! I just got back into riding after 20 years. I had a Yamaha V-star 1100 classic. I just bought a Suzuki DRZ 400 and then rode my buddies cruiser and now I’m looking for a warrior! Good content keep it up. Cheers.
nice work....both bikes look amazing
I'm on my 3rd M109R. You can just kick into a higher gear without using the clutch when you race her like that - just hold off on the accelerator a bit for a fraction of a second when kicking into next gear.
Nice! I'm admittedly no good at the drag racing thing. Lol.
The 109 is SICK!!
Dang! Both those bikes are BEAST! I thought my 04 Warrior was fast. Great videos brother. Stay safe. 🤘👌
Allen G warriors are great bikes.. as A raider owner Id never sleep on a warrior.
I still like my Warrior better. Neither of those bikes handle as good as a Warrior. Or look as good.
@@terryeddy8538 I never rode a M109R so I can’t compare. However, it does handle better than my Vrod Muscle and honestly it handles better than my 22 FXLRS.
I was weighing up the raider or m109. Both raiders I rode were stock and felt slow. I then rode a stock m109 which felt quick and ended up buying a M109with cobra pipes, fi2000 & filters. Crazy fast, wheelspin in first gear, second gear and shifting 2-3 big spin, gotta be careful.
Yeah, stock vs stock, the m109r definitely has the edge. That thing is such a torque monster! I can't imagine with all the upgrades!
Thought this be a close fight just on how yamaha and suzuki build big bad ass bikes but holy damn that m109 is a monster.
Who hoo been waiting for this 1
Hahaha! What a blast!
Just found your channel, subscribed. Dig your vids, keep on keeping
Thanks, brotha! I appreciate the support!
Bring it on. My Raider hasn't been beaten by any other since I've had it!
Where are you located?
Most People know dudes with 750s and a 45 that can beat that attitude
My 109 would smash on your raider and leave it crying
What monster bikes! I'd love to see a Raider/Warrior side-by-side comparison on how the ride feels.
Oh yeah! I had a warrior swing by a few weeks later but no longer had the raider. We did raider and low rider s ride along (a few pulls, but no drags). I love the warriors! My favorite of the performance cruisers overall.
@Jon's Moto Garage So glad to hear you say that, I just bought one which will be delivered in 3 days. Very excited!
@@Iron_Thunderstorm Nice! Congrats on the new ride! They're awesome bikes!
Almost same exact 1/4 mile times. Raider beats it in torque
I had a Raider that was stock except pipes upgrade and I was able to pull my buddies Warrior with intake, pipes, and tune. I didn't pull by much, at all, but did pull in higher speeds.
Up until now I was going to buy a Raider and M109R was my second choice.
Now, after seeing this awesome video, I decided I gotta have both.
Thanks man!
Heck yeah! Best of both worlds!
good thinking!
That looks 👀 fun 👊✊💨
Hahaha! Heck yeah!
Can you do a video of all the bikes you currently have and what you love about each one? Great videos!
Heck yeah! I actually did a garage tour a while back but never uploaded it. I'm so behind the 8 ball. Lol.
Jon's Moto Garage Cool! Will definitely be looking forward for that video! I know you enjoy all those toys!
The m109r is tough. Amazing video.
I am a big cruiser bike kinda guy but I dig your channel.
Heck yeah! Thanks, brotha! I appreciate the support! What's your favorite ride?
Thought the 109 would pull ahead. Pretty amazing stock-ish machine.
Got the 109 and its a beast, cant beat it.
Hey what year is your Suzuki. Has your Suzuki had any clutch issues?
The only issue with the M109 is wanting to feel the power every time its ridden , monster bike
Lol. Yeah, it knock the common sense right out of you. Dangerous game for sure!
I recently got an m50 and love it but man the m90 and 109r are soooo tempting!!!
It would be cool to see a vtx 1800 in there!
I have owned both bikes, the M109 IS A TORQUE BEAST! I loved both. The Raider was awesome riding, but it desperately needed a 6 speed trany.
Yeah, the m109r is sheer TORQUE (like you mentioned). I found the raider to be a more comfortable/smooth ride. Both have fine qualities for sure.
Never needed a 6th gear on my raider.. and never in the four years of owning the raider have I heard another mention they wanted a sixth gear
Definately could use a 6th gear. Actually, I have had both, and still have a m109r and they both could use another gear.
Enjoyed the video. I owned a M90 for 1.5 years, and during that time took a trip up the PCH with my brothers and rented a Stryker for the 1400 mile, 9 day adventure! I never could get the bars on the M90 close enough that I could ride more than an hour before needing a break. The handling of the M90 was hands down better, as was the acceleration. Yet the Stryker was no slouch in acceleration and was far ahead when it came to long distance riding. Still after 250-325 miles in a day, I was ready to stop. What do you think about the handling and ergos of the big brother M109 and Raider?
I prefer the handling/comfort of the raider, but the m109r takes the win in the performance category. It's a complete torque monster!
@@JonsMotoGarage right, and if it's anything like the M90 it revs quicker than anything short of a Diavel. Speaking of which, I was privileged to demo an XDiavel and loved it, except at very low rpms, where every time a piston fires it feels like it's going to shoot through the head or just explode in the cylinder! Never read about THAT in any reviews. I still want to try a new V-Max.
I'm a USMC disabled veteran and was in tears when I couldn't swing my leg back over my S1000RR AND ZX10-R after (BOTH) my hip replacements. I started looking at V-Rods and my DoD colleague suggested the M109 BOSS edition. NEVER LOOKED BACK AND NEVER HAD A B&^%@ SEAT ON IT.
Thank you for your service, brotha!
Great video thank you! I'm way up here in Port Elgin Ontario Canada
What bike is that white one with the vertical gray stripes 2 over from the 109
That looks like Florida to me, I am near West Palm Beach. The M109R is a monster and it's all so gorgeous, however, when I test drove it it was just way too big for me, and I'm six foot one. Instead I got a V-Rod and I am loving every minute of it, the V-Rod is extremely well-made and extremely fast. And it handles like a puppy dog at low speeds. Very low center-of-gravity, the gas tank is under the seat.
I loved my M109R and regret selling it. However, there was two things I didn't like with it. 1st the not so clean first gear to second gear and 2nd being a shaft drive when you back off the throttle, the drive wanted to still push the bike. Would I own another M109R?..... HELL YEAH. Also to add, it was classified the first ever "sports" cruiser on paper. The other cool bike I would prefer to the Raider is the Yamaha 1700 warrior, has nice lines as well.
Yes! I dig the m109r and warrior as well! I didnt know the m109r was the first official sport cruise. Makes sense.
@@JonsMotoGarage Yeah, a few others were called a sports cruiser like, the warrior, Mean streak and one or two others but the M109R was the actually official. Also the pistons it has are bigger than any other bike, or car for that. One day I hope to get another one. Safe riding mate.
@@JonsMotoGarage That's just Suzuki marketing. The VMax was the first "Muscle Bike", the VTX 1800 was the first "Muscle Cruiser" and the M109R was the first "Sport Cruiser". It's all a play on words to sell bikes. lol
Had a Warrior for a year, until I crashed it in a very unfortunate accident.
Currently thinking about buying a Raider as my next bike.
I think everyone is forgetting about the Kawasaki ZL's Eliminator 900 / 1000 back in the day. Shaft drives and I've seen them twist and snap shafts like toothpicks. The Vmax still has a current following and production but the ZL's demanded respect usually came down to the riders ability. Now again they are 4 cyl bikes so not really a fair match for V-Twins. So with that said pick up both of these and have a shootout video.
The 109 is a monster.I had a 2011, recently sold it for a Kawasaki Concours which is also quick and a nice freeway cruiser.
Nice! I've been looking for a Concours at the recommendation of a viewer. I think I'd enjoy it quite a bit.
@@JonsMotoGarage The Concours is definitely a sleeper.
@@hexrays ...its a Z-14 with a detune engine but still very fast its in the V-max class. M-109 or Raider don't stand a chance against it.
Can confirm between my buddy and I, the M109R walks away from the Warrior 1700. No contest. As far as a VMax, my M109R is hard pressed to keep up.
That's about what I expected. I've never ridden the vmax but they all day it's the monster of all muscle bikes. Rumor has it the diavel is now the top dawg, but idk.
@@JonsMotoGarage i think the v- max is just a naked crotch rocket dressed up as a muscle bike. But not really a cruiser. Kinda in its own class. Smooth monster hp. The rocket 3 is another monster bike.
@@gsx95r hahaha...no kidding. Sounds like it at least based on what I've heard. Lol.
What do you think of the 2005 Suzuki boulevard 1400cc I have one and it seems pretty torky it's a good running bike have a 2000 Harley Davidson deuce softtail 1450 it's a good running bike but my opinion the Japanese bikes are more dependable and will take what you give them with out breaking down great video guys keep the great work up thanks again Mike Holden out of north Carolina said that
I've yet to get my hands on the boulevard 1400, but I've heard a lot of great things about it. Ive had the m90, c90t, and c109r boulevards as well as the m50, m90, and m109r of course.
I know this is old but did he have any air intake modification on the raider because they really choke that motor with the stock system
Great vídeo bro i ride a 2002 goldwing with cobra slip ons
Well done
I have heard that the 109’s don’t have the best transmissions. That is there weak spot? True or false?
Please do a drag race with a Kawasaki VN2000 vulcan ! Great video !
I've actually dragged a 2000 Vulcan on my 2014 M109R, beat him like a red headed step child. The 2000, and Raider are both great bikes, both underrated, Vulcan is a tad too heavy, Raider is lacking in torque, the M109R is higher revving, lots more torque, and unlike both those, it doesn't torque peak so quickly. Only cruiser style bike out that'll give it a run, and probably beat it, would be the VMAX.
Nice rides
I wonder how my Moto Guzzi Audace would hold up? I can spank a lot of Harleys with 1380cc's (84ci).
I currently own a 1985 Suzuki Intruder 750 and man-o-man does it ever have pep! Previously I owned a Suzuki M50 and I rode that rate from Sarnia Ontario to Fredericton New Brunswick and Beyond and it's a great great bike!
Great video I have a bully myself... ride safe from the UK
The M90 and 109 are very high reving V-Twins, you can stay lots longer in each gear. Had my M90 to 70mph in second without hitting the rev limit !
Love to see u add the vtx 1800 to this mix. Would like to know the power difference between the 109r and rhe VTX 1800.
Test drove a M109 yesterday. Hated to admit that it was too much bike for me. Comfortable, but very touchy throttle. 1st and 2nd would lunge at the shifts. Looking forward to test drive the belt driven Raider.
buy the m109 you get used to it
The first time I rode my M109R I almost fell of the bike in a parking lot as I cracked the throttle a we bit and my hands pulled off the grips. A bit more power than my learner bike Honda 750. It doesn’t take long though to figure out the bike. Once you do there is fun to be had.
I have that boulevard's exhaust on my raider.. its so good!
What’s the name of those pipes you have on the M109r?????
The M109R BOSS (mine was blue 2016 I got basically half off because they lost it in inventory during covid) is like a Merc G wagon....timeless and classy and will never go out of style and always hold its value.
I own a M109R 2006 since 2012 and I won't change it for anything else.
The 240 tire and the 1800cc is the best.
M109R is an amazing machine!!! Period! No disrespect to the Raider...I am Suzuki...
I've had both the M90 and M109R, and they both haul ass🤙🤙🤙
I'd love to see a 2014-15 valkyrie against both of these things. I prefer the looks of the Yamaha over the Suzuki for sure though.
Heck yeah! I've seen few valkyries as of late. Would love to give one a shot!
@@JonsMotoGarage if you're ever in New York, I'd love to have to do a review on mine!
How’s the cornering clearance between the 109 & Raider? Which will start dragging hard parts first?
Great question! Truth be told I'm not sure. Seems like both scrape pegs quite easily. I was able to pull off a knee drag on the raider (there's a vid somewhere in the archives), but I was dragging the foot peg the entire time. Lol.
M109R has much better ground clearance.
My father has an m109r and I got a raider. Definitely gonna share with him.
I think the Yamaha offers a smoother ride/ perhaps more comfort on long rides.
My thoughts as well. Both bikes have some pros and cons.
I have a 2022 109 and it's a monster. Comfortable also.
Air cooled vs Water cooled. Water cooled motors can be built for HP and Torque. Air cooled motors pretty much need to keep revs down to stay reliable. would like to see VTX1800 vs 109r.
For sure! The vtx 1800 vs 109r would be a great match up!
I agree..high speed and high rpm bikes need water.
@@JonsMotoGarage As the owner of an VTX 1800 I can tell you right now, with all things being equal, the M109R is still a faster bike. The VTX 1800 falls somewhere in between the Raider and M109R in performance.
Jon, thank you so much for all the videos you make. I am really torn between buying a M109, or an 1800 VTX. What are your thoughts? Which is the faster, more powerful bike? Which is more comfortable/smooth? Which do you prefer all-around?
Personally, I'd go with the Honda due to reliability and style preferences. I'm inclined to believe the m109r actually edges out the vtx for overall performance. My gripe with the m109r is mostly in the styling department and I know some years were plagued with transmission issues. But the m109r is easier to come by since they're still make them. If possible, ride em both and see which you like more. 💯👌
@@JonsMotoGarage Thank you, Jon. I was leaning towards the VTX, for the same reason. I know I can count on Honda's reliability. I've never ridden either bike, though, and since you have - I trust your opinion. Felice Navidad!
@@ace1usmc the VTX is much better for long distance runs but the 109 smokes it in performance. What did you end up getting? I have both.
@@JonsMotoGarage The pre 2010 are the ones with gearbox fork selector issues and some bullys have over 100k on them.. the bully looks more modern while the vtx more retro
We need a M109R vs the FXDLS now!
Heck yeah! We'll see if we can make that happen!
I can tell you now exactly how that will go, the M109R will win easily yet again.
Those are nice bikes man! I wish you could find one of those old Honda magnas (v65, 1100) so you can compare it with the 109r. That would be sweet.
That would be awesome! I've heard great things about those magnas!
I've ridden all three. The V65 Magnas used to be called, "The Widowmaker", for a reason. It won't beat either the Raider or the M109R, but all three of these bikes are fast. The Raider takes the win, though. I've never been beaten by the M109R on mine.
@@johnspugnardi2743 i disagree a good running V-65 would hold its own, its lighter with a high red line. The 109 might be able to run it down but maybe not if its just too far gone.
M109R has a bit more horsepower than the Raider, Raider has way much more torque.
Jon, I find the wind unbearable on my Stratoliner (without the windshield) at 65, what is the Raider (without faring or windshield) like compared to the Roadliner/Stratoliners that you have ridden? One thing that annoys me about the 1900 yamaha's is that loud whine from the alternator I suspect. The Suki looked well proportioned and suspension looked well matched, but I hate its exhaust sound at idle..
I'd like to see a Raider vs the little Stryker (but much lighter).. that smaller 1300cc engine (if its the same motor as in the V-star 1300) is a marvel..so so smooth (maybe less vibration than my goldwing F6B had) and wow will it take you way past 120mpr in a hurry.
When you eliminate the rev limit on the 109 it will bury the speedometer
Yes! Mine does.
I would like to see this azuki M109 run like that with the Kawasaki 2000
Do the M109r come with a radio?
I got a New M109! They fixed the shift from first to second! I have road bikes all my life!! Im 50 yrs old. I aint gonna lie, This M109 is a monster. These younger kids on these sports bikes. Look at me funny when i eat there bikes up! The M109r, is big, its ,heavy and it will blow your mind, if you've never rod one!
The M109 has a Hypercharge on it. And I’m more confortable on the Raider and it’s very nimble.
Either one of these bikes is a monster with a tuner installed
Heck yeah! Both great bikes for sure! Ride safe, brotha!
The quick fix never compares to a professional dyno-tuning it with a customized fuel map though!
They open UP when tuned right!
What happened with the VTX race
Really shocked how quick that M109r is, that appeals to me. However not a huge fan of all the plastic or the exhaust note.
M109R......awesome
Yeah, pure MONSTER MUSCLE! Thanks for checking the vid!
M109!!! straight BEAST!!! thinking of trading my 109 for a 19 streetbob because everytime i ride it ,its like i have to race everyone!! haha (undefeated so far) lol!
I'll take it
Haha! That's awesome! It's tough always being the fastest kid on the block.
i do not doubt that at all
His shifting is really good.
How would a VK2 compare ?
i think should get out of residential and speed bump zone, then once at an adequate place. drop a rag or something.
Good idea! We only hit the strip with no houses, but I hear ya! And good idea with the rag.
Hell yeah man! Finally! Lol kinda figured it would be the 109, the raider seems to pull in 2nd and 3rd, but levels out in higher gears
Hahaha....eventually we'll get some bluetooth so we can do a more legit head to head. Hope this entertains in the meantime. Lol. Thanks, bro!
Wrong, lol.
Don’t mess with the 9!
Matt, where do you live? I'll race ya on my Raider, lol.
throw rag in air, when it lands. GO!
The only problem with the 109 is that eventually, your friends will recognize you on it!
You should try the 2018 brake out with the 114 stage 4 DANGEROUS .

Sometimes it takes losing something to realize what you got. Lol. At least you found another one! Thanks for watching and commenting!
How did it go compared to the vrod 1250
M109R is a Beast hands down
There is only two replacements for displacement and that's supercharger/turbo combo or nitrous/type of fuel.
Hey! Good to hear from you! Hope all has been well!
Eh....don't discount RPM. The Harley Davidson VRod has already proven that to be an equaliser.
Stock for stock the 109 takes it but when you flash it its a diffrent animal. My uncle has a 109 and i have a raider with flash and fule tuner and smoke him everytime when he rode it he said its the fastest cruiser hes ever been on
Nice
Jon you can wheelie a Harley but can’t drag? You got that man! Lol you have all the skills and honestly the metric bikes have been faster than Harley’s since the Vmax came out and like what 1985? While I really like Harley’s I’m always disappointed in there choices. I mean common Moto Guzzi and other smaller bike builders come with Brembos and nicer Shock dampening. I truly feel Harley is just a flat out lazy company when it comes to engine design and power. Harley’s screaming eagle kits should be what the bike comes with stock. All Dynas should have the 110 when your stepping up against metric bikes. It’s like Harley is content with being slow. Then you get the Vrod which is awesome but a very one dimensional bike. Imagine a Dyna with the Vrod Motor??????? Or a Dyna coming with a 117 from the factory. I totally get the feeling I just rented a road glide for the last two days and I love it. The sound and power band is fun to play with but my god there Shock damping sucks and the 107 is still heavily underpowered vs the metric stuff. Hell look at how many companies offering Olin’s has options. Why can’t Harley do the big engines standard in there bikes? That’s the stuff that really bothers me about them.
Hahaha! I'm sure with some research and practice that I could pull it off. But it's never been a high priority.
I know. Why does Harley offer different "stages?" My VTX isn't offered with different stages. Stupid concept that seems, to me, to treat customers as chumps. My VTX is what it is - a reliable, comfortable, affordable, powerful machine.
The reason is very simple. HD workers are union. High wages & high retirement. Very difficult to compete price for price.
I test drove both. And bought raider. M109 is faster top end but equal low and mid. Besides that rest of m109 seemed cheap. M109 needed alot of work going around corners. Raider went around corners with ease. For me for country riding raider is a more fun bike. The 113cu in raider is no slotch but doesnt cater to sport bike riders like m109
109 is an absolute beast
Мечта заветная!!!
The Raider is WAY better looking, but damn, that power though!
I agree. If you could somehow blend the two. Lol.
Take them to a drag strip near you. Nobody can complain there!
Yes! That would be a blast!
The M109R looks badass, but then you added the footage of that black-chrome Raider and it's no contest, jesus fkin christ what a sexy thing... Raider for me please
