I am really enjoying this real life machine shop approach. The educational part to me is in the showing and then appreciating what is involved.

I used a long carpenter's nail with the tip vent 90° and a slide hammer.

A boroscope would be good for capturing those tight spots. Not sure how well the Amazon cheapies work....

Hi mate; I think that I mentioned in other post but not sure; but there is a simple home made tool to remove the tube in 8 seconds without damaging anything. No matter how glued the tube is. If you like I can send an sketch. Is dumb simple but 100% effective. Also, I use a very simple method to remove the plug without damage and re usable both.
All these methods that somehow spread all over are too invasive and brute.

The small end of the conrods looks like have been covered in burnt oil, are you sure they haven't been 'cooked' and lost their strength?

now i have no way of testing hardness or strength in old alloys, but so many of these internals have that burnt oil layer and i have not had any issues with failing. i have seen rods with seized wrist pin that suffered extreme heat, i replaced those...

Thanks, just go with what we have done in the past, then. I'm no whiz mechanic...@@dirtyshirtrichter8647
