    I've seen a few people with stickers that say their pronouns in university, and that seems to help. Some people don't always read them, but it's a good idea. Also, if there's a wheelchair accessible or single stall washroom, often times they are not gendered and will be your best friend (especially at a certain time of the month)! Great to change in as well.

      I tried to get into this one school (I didn't get in), and when I shadowed a student there, in every class people would say their name FOLLOWED BY THEIR PRONOUNS and it just seemed like an instinct! Like even cisgender people said their pronouns and I'm in shock. We need to make this a thing everywhere.

  • @spencerqwashington
    @spencerqwashington Před 6 lety +154

    Something that helped me in high school was copying the manner of other guys. In university I just simply do what I enjoy since gender isn't as forced. Also if your binder feels too tight go a size up. If you're stealth and talking about childhood just mention "when I was little or a kid"

    Just a little positive message for anyone reading through the comments:
    If you don’t know if people around you will be excepting, just wait until the topic of gender comes up (like bring up a trans/nb friend that you have, or someone in the media) and see how they feel talking about that one
    Tbh now I feel a lot more confident about coming out as non-binary because of my little cousin. She was confused about what gender I was and I said that I didn’t really care, but she could call me a girl (b/c I’m not out yet and that’s how my family sees me) and she was cool with it but many times I heard her use he/him instead and mostly no one heard but no one really cared. Like, as long as I wasn’t bothered it didn’t bother them.

      I have a similar experience with my 5yo cousin, he has two older sisters, so he always treats me like I'm his big brother, because I'm the only one who likes superheroes like he does. And the sweetest part is that sometimes he calls me with male pronouns without realizing (we speak Spanish, and pronouns go attached with adjectives). I love him so much because of that, he's the only one in the family who actually sees me as the boy i am.

    I’ve been wanting to come out as non binary to my friend, but I don’t know if they will understand. I lost all of my old friends a few years ago when I came out as bi, and I don’t want to go through that again. Another issue is that I’m pretty “girly” for a non binary person. I wear makeup occasionally and leggings everyday. Where I live is very conservative and I have already been told that “all gays should stay in the closet” and “vegans should be dead” so I don’t really want to be any more different then I already am.

      Honestly, saaaaaaaaaame I live in Texas and both my parents are against lgbtq, and every adult in Texas pretty much brings up the bible, you're also right about the vegan thing. I'm vegetarian and honestly no one is accepting :/ it fuckin sucks, but a majority of my friends are supportive, so you should try too. Friends and kids our age seem to understand how we feel better than adults, they may even be trying to come out as well. Whatever happened/happens (I see your comment was posted 8 months ago) you got this, good luck

    • @theadventuresofpolyphony8032
      @theadventuresofpolyphony8032 Před 6 lety +13

      Ah my bad sorry, wrong choice of words, what I meant my "decide" was that I'm only just starting to realise things about myself and figuring out how I can feel comfortable in my own skin. I am working through whether I am comfortable enough within myself to show these new discoveries about myself to the world. I, the same as everyone else can not decide their gender (or anything else about your identity for that matter) however you can decide if, when and how you portray and share that with the people around you. What I should have said is "I am working out at the moment whether I am ready within myself to go by different pronouns etc.." I assure you the last think I want to is go on along with societal "trends", I'm trying to be my most authentic self, not "cool". Thank you for picking me up on my misuse of wording :)

    My friend Cameron is trans
    He moved to my school in the 9th grade
    So we had gym together so because he was born female he had to use the girls locker room he did not mind cause the boys did not like him
    We had a girl in our gym class who could not understand that even though he used the girls locker room he identified a male
    So she always used she/her pronouns this pissed me off but Cameron was cool anyway

    I use he/him and they/them, or used to. I had to drop he/him because even if I introduced myself with they/them first, everyone would choose to use he/him. I'm non-binary/transmasc and it feels like people were constantly ignoring that I was non-binary and I was bejbg called male etc... It was kinda shit.
    For anyone questioning, just remember to be firm about who you are. No one else can decide that for you.

    The backpack thing was one of the reasons I knew I was trans, I had one of those and I strap it just under my chest area, so it really highlighted everything. I used to hate so much that, and then I realized that was dysphoria. Now I don't use it, but I'm thinking about using it like you do, maybe it will help me.

    what's rly helping me as an agender (they/them) in college is having other trans/nonbinary friends. they're always there to correct others when im feeling awkward about it. I think having lgbt+ friends in generally helps, like my bi friend once referred to me as they/them infront of the teachers (which i didnt mind since ive already told her i dont mind being outed in school). just surround yourself with people u know u can trust and they'll make you feel at home with your new identity

    Also, another tip I would give that I'm sure you all know is that if you feel more neutral or masculine some days and more feminine some days, bind your chest in some safe way to be more neutral or masculine and other days, you can not bind. Also, I found that having short hair long enough to where I can wear pretty bows allows me to be feminine while other days I can choose to not wear bows and feel more neutral or masculine. I like that about me - giving myself freedom to present myself confidently and feel cute. :)

      honestly i think people are constantly in phases and some last longer than others (2 weeks or 60 years) and the amount of time that you feel a certain way doesnt necessarily have anything to do with how intensely you feel whatever it is. in short, you might feel differently at some point in the future, and thats okay. you still deserve love and respect and support right now.

    At the moment I have only one binder which I got from one of the trans* group hosts who have had a top surgery so he don't need it anymore, and I don't know what size is it, I think it's correct size for me (still not too big). I'm just wondering that how can u know if having too small binder?

    • @NoahHella
      @NoahHella  Před 6 lety +6

      I found my correct size by going to the GC2B website and there they have a measuring system. So you need to measure yourself and then you'll see which size is right for you!

    I came out when I was 9 as a lesbian but no one knows that I’m non binary
    (Don’t @ me saying I was too young and didn’t know because I grew up around lgbtq+ and I’m still that way today)
    I’ve been looking for tips because I’m moving and going to a new school so I’m using that as my opportunity to be myself
    Thank you for making this video because it is very helpful BUT...
    Does anyone have any tips for coming out to family as non binary? I’m still kinda scared 😅😅

    the teachers at my school refuse to use the correct name, pronouns, and don't let you go to the locker rooms/restrooms that you feel more comfortable with. most of the kids are like that too.

    join gsa (gay straight alliance) or make one
    in my experience the kids in gsa are cool with trans people and sometimes you'll meet other trans people so you'll have a group of people who'll accept you and who you can talk to

    I'm Nonbinary, and while I havent settled on a new name I have one that might be official. By the end of this year or beginning of next I'll be moving to a rather conservative small town.
    Now, my family knows that I'm nonbinary, they're okay with it, and by the time I move I'm planning to have the new name in place and my family fully uses my pronouns.
    HOWEVER, once again I'm moving to a small conservative town and going to High School there. I have no idea how people are going to react to me. I've been trying to stay prepared, learning self defense, hiding myself in a very androgynous way but if anyone sees this I would really appreciate some tips on what to do.

    does anyone have tips for periods and going to the bathroom in 8th grade
    i can NOT come out cause my grandma is very transphobic and i live with her so ill get my ass beat
    in our school we cant bring backpacks to the bathroom, and when i start school this week is when my period will be coming.
    I pass as a cis guy and everyone thinks im cis except for my name "audrianna", I want to email my teachers and say "hey can you please use the name/nickname Finn for me since I dont like my real name. thank you."
    but I am scared if they will not be accepting and will call my parents and grandparents and out me, if that happens then i will be yelled at and most likely be kicked out of my grandmas house /srs
    so if anyone cal help please please respond fast
