Aww man, memories. I had two early Carbon-15 pistols & used one in the filming of a music video for the movie "Belly". DMX was an idiot who couldn't figure out how to operate the AK we gave him & Nas was mellow & cool to work with. Anyways, my dumb ass fitted a blank firing adapter to the Carbon-15 & the lower receiver split in half on the first shot. I still have the 46 oz. paperweight.
Imagine having one of those with a forced reset trigger in the 90's. I doubt the lower would handle more than a few mags with a forced reset trigger in it, but that definitely would have made things more interesting during that time period.
Love that you covered the rap aspect of this gun. I actually came here because I heard a old Young Jeezy song called Gangsta Music and in the song it said “I got carbon 1 5 with a hundred round drum” so I came to CZcams to check it out LOL
The Bushmaster C22 that is no longer available uses a Carbon 15 lower that is compatible with mil-spec AR-15 uppers. My C22 lower has been tested with 7.62 x 39 & 556 and functions perfectly. However, I would not be my rifle of choice for WW3.
I can see this as a very good platform for a cursed gun build, convert it to 9mm, print an mp5 style stock for it, then a longer barrel with a mock suppressor so it looks like a mp5sd, that would be hilarious.
You can replace the upper with a standard one, they’re cross compatible. The buffer tube threads on the lower receiver are a different thread if I’m remembering correctly. So you can’t drop in a normal buffer tube assembly.
I bet a hand guard printed in Bambu's PET-CF would hold up to the heat. I printed an AKM hand guard in that filament and it has held up very nicely on my plastikov v4. I even competed with it in this year's GMM
Have you seen the bushmaster "arm pistol" ?? I'd love to see someone revisit that concept but on a more serious note, maybe add a brace or stock to it somehow
@@booliganshootingsports I figured if anyone would do it, it'd be Booligan. And I second that, Yeah, you should've. Given the current rate of inflation, there are worse things you could be spending $ on. At least that is an investment
I have the carbine version of that. I bought it during the ban. I never really had any issues with it but then I never really shot it that much because it felt like it would break too easily.
It's pretty sweet with a 20 round mag and a shoulder rig it hangs from. Use some Fort Scott Munitions or a bonded soft point from 60 to 64 grains. Light and ammo that works.
I have the Bushmaster Carbon-15 Carbine. It is a light little gun! It seems accurate enough, and that fluted stainless barrel puts out the heat! I recall it was expensive to buy. I did ask Bushmaster about putting a .22LR upper on it, but I can't recall what they said. Maybe with a .22LR bolt? It was possible, anyway, with a little extra effort. No machining, just parts... Sooo, 16yrs later we went back to polymer 80's and American Tactical polymer uppers? Said Parts being made out of "plastic" isn't necessarily bad. I've seen sample M16s with polymer uppers and lowers that shoot fine.
I mean, we never “went back”. Polymer AR uppers and lowers are still niche compromised items that have worse longevity than a comparable aluminum component. They generally are only used for cost savings or for fun, but I’ve seen more than enough broken ATI poly receivers to steer clear of them for anything resembling moderate use. Just my opinion on the matter though!
I've had really good luck with them, even built a 10.5" 450 Bushmaster that has 525 rounds through it, that's still functional today. I use Arma spec buffer assemblies and really good muzzle brakes, to offset Force multitudes on the frames. The only other wear I've seen on the lowers were the fcg axel pins rounding out, and a rotation pins seem to fix that.
I’m not saying that polymer firearm receivers don’t work. I’m saying that polymer AR receivers don’t work long term. The XM8 is a G36 derivative and completely unrelated to the AR platform. It was designed with polymer construction in mind from day one. Incidentally, there’s a huge issue with the G36 platform and accuracy loss with sustained use due to the polymer construction, but that’s neither here nor there. What I’m saying is that polymer AR format receivers are where the problems lie. The platform is designed for aluminum receivers and unless you radically redesign the components, the polymer becomes a failure point. The takedown lugs break. Having to merge the aluminum barrel retaining lug with the rest of the polymer receiver creates a failure point. In sustained use, heat soak causes flex. Polymer lowers like the KP15 solve those issues with dramatic redesigns. Uppers haven’t solved it yet. Having 500 rounds through a polymer receiver isn’t anything resembling a long term reliability test, even in a chunky caliber like .450 Bushmaster. If I’m having a good range day, I’m burning through 3-4x that in a few hours, especially when the SOTs I work with bring out their goodies (and the ammo sponsors come through) lol. I’m sure you’ve done an awesome job to mitigate the inherent issues with the polymer receivers, and that’s great! As long as you understand it’s not a platform that’ll ever see or survive heavy, sustained use.
This is true, I would agree. Honestly, don't know how long they'll hold up for, but will definitely have to put one through the ropes at some point, the the brink of catastrophic failure.
It wants you to make it awesome. All it needs is your $200 stamp... BTW the one Carbon 15 pistol I did sell while working at a range/gun store caused the police to show up because it was a straw purchase that someones boyfriend used in a drive by shooting...
I was always fascinated by the Professional Ordnance models and their supposed 4.5 pound weight for a carbine. I never quite understood why Bushmaster night the Carbon 15 and immediately weighed it down with heavy milspec type parts.
Most likely because Bushmaster didn’t want to deal with all of those warranty complaints for some of the lightweight but very fragile parts that PO used.
I get the feeling you never shot one. Also why would you change anything it was designed to be what it was and original. All the couch commandos say things suck but I don't see you taking a sledge hammer to it and backing your thoughts bet it will flex and keep going.
Why would I take a sledgehammer to a gun that I like, and sought out to buy? Also, designing and adding accessories is perfectly normal. It’s what I do. Criticizing things that you enjoy with actual real criticism is normal behavior. This thing is awesome, but the polymer receivers break. It’s a common, very well documented problem which is why the product line was switched to aluminum. I love this thing, but it has flaws. Everything does. Some are just bigger flaws, like this gun’s tendency to self destruct with regular use.
Everytime I see a carbon 15 I want to listen to the "Hustle and Flow" soundtrack.....there is a song on there by BOYZ N DA HOOD called "Carbon 15, Ak's and MAC 11's"......it's a really dumb and bad rap song, and I don't like rap really, but hey at least it's pro gun!!! Lmao!

If you place a normal ar15 aluminum milspec upper on the lower, and replace milspec buffer tube with castle nut and endplate on lower, will it run?

At the time these were designed, that pistol buffer system was common. Carbine buffers weren’t really used. We’re considered too long.
