Top 5 Actual Conspiracies

- Yes, it seems like the word "conspiracy" is always paired with the word "theory" but, in fact, there are quite a few actual conspiracies with implications that can boggle the mind. Does the U.S. Government kill people for scientific research? Sometimes. Did George Bush's Grandfather help try to install a fascist dictatorship in America? Yup. Did scientology orchestrate the largest ever infiltration of the U.S. government, you betcha!

The algorithm has decided that I need to watch a bunch of ten year old videos by hank. OK cool.
Same, but 11-12 years old now, I guess.
@pohjanvanamo it isn't just me!
Same over here! O.o
This is happening to me now!

"Why would I lead a coup against my man, Frankie D." --Hank Green
Field Interference I need this on a T-shirt.
Hank and John aged well. Like a glass of whiskey.
That Ain't Falco glasses of whiskey do not age well, they tend to spoil, evaporate, and spill
I don´t thik a glass of wiskey will age well. It will oxidize, collect dust and insects while slowly evapurating.
I think you mean 'like a bottle of whiskey'
Like a bottle of fine wine.
The MK Ultra experiments are actually really disturbing and fascinating, and I highly recommend anybody do some research on it, and other secret experiments in the 60s.
In regards to the Gunpowder Plot, I must say that Guy Fawkes was actually a big deal. Not because of his role in the plot to blow up Parliament, but because when he was discovered guarding the gunpowder the night before the event was supposed to take place, he was tortured into giving away the plot and his co-conspirators. So, no, he was not crucial to the plot, but his betrayal was what prevent it from actually occurring.
I had a friend who was involved in operation Snow White and left the church of Scientology. He was always looking over his shoulder.
I like thinking that someone called Franklin Roosevelt "Franky-D"
Shh I know it's just Hank being Hank but let me dream.
Not sure why the algorithm felt I'm needed to travel back in time to what appears to be Hank and John's childhood, but I'm here for it 😂
I wonder how many kids who watched this in 2011 now have face tattoos in 2021... I'll guess wayyyyy more than Hank would've thought.
Pt. 1
The Tuskegee experiment was actually worse than what you mentioned. The people were coerced into participation by being offered "burial insurance" (i.e., if they died, they were buried, this was actually a very big deal for the people). Also penicillin was discovered 10 years into the experiment and effectively cured syphilis, but the participants were not told about it, not given it, and heck, weren't even told that they had syphilis.
2:00 fun fact about british education, at least English education(not sure about the rest) we do get taught that guy Fawkes was bascially tortured into confessing and had very little, if anything to do with the treason attempt. Which is one of the many reasons we call it"bonfire Night" rather then"guy fawkes night" :D
Not saying it was Aliens ... but it was Aliens.
i know its those creepy bastards
enticed2zeitgeist atleast you didn't say it was aliens
No .They are demons
What about the Gulf of Tonkin? You know, when the US government pretended their ships had been attacked by the Vietnamese so they could start a war, and then later, after the war was over, it turned out that they had made it all up. Does that count?
CZcams in 2019: "Here watch this video from 8 years ago"
Me: "U srs?"
holy shit that stuff from stranger things was real
lol, kinda. That movie with Kristen Stewart and Michael Cera (I think) is loosely based off of the actual MK Ultra experiments as well. The CIA were testing ways to create super soldiers, sleeper agents (since the Russians allegedly had them) and overall get the upper hand in the cold war. Completely illegal, unethical, and for the most part, the people had really no clue what they were getting into. The government knew what was going on and while it wasn't openly sanctioned, they didn't do anything to stop it. They've had a few operations like MK Ultra actually - they just make sure to sweep it as far under the rug as possible so everyone eventually forgets about it, and those who don't, look crazy.
jesse eisenberg not michael cera
becca s my mom was one of the test subjects for MK Ultra, and she won't let me watch Stranger Things when she's in the room because of it
mk IULTRA
It’s based off the fermilabs. I live a little ways from one and it looks exactly like Hawkins lab.
Scientology is scary...
Thankfully forbidden in alot of countries ^^
I'm actually wondering when the government is going to round them all up and consider them terrorist.
Shari K. no religion should be banned. infiltrating government records for saying mean things about them... should be banned.
oc00011 its no religion, thats it.
Shari K. Yes. You know that don't you?
A few million Scientologists may disagree.
You think it's nonsense (And from what i know of it, i kinda agree with you) but it IS still considered a religion.
Glad to see people have already mentioned the Gulf of Tonkin incident and Operation Northwoods.
For those unfamiliar, check them out. Wikipedia has decent articles on both. One brought us into the Vietnam War, and the other was supposed to bring us to war with Cuba.
Yes, but lizard people though.
Bear McBear MC sneople are real
Oh my gosh, Hank you look so much younger here!
It is shocking how much he has changed!
Thomas Mack Seriously!
He's like a smooth faced baby
With almost exactly the same bookshelf!
My man Frankie D :) made me laugh :)
your enthusiasm and unorthodox way of describing things makes my life a little bit better with every video.
CZcams Recommendations 2011:
CZcams Recommendations 2019: Yo dawg I hear you like conspiracies.
Welcome to the comments. It sucks here, you should move on.
+Nastrael Rowe but i like it here
Then you truly are mad.
well it is my name
***** you dropped your tinfoil hat
Man, just think back how different CZcams was 11 years ago.
The reason Guy Fawkes was given so much credit was because he was caught and endured unimaginable amounts of torture including disembowelment until he knew the rest of his team was far enough away that they wouldn't get caught.
You could so easily have included the Gulf of Tonkin incident and matched John's top 6...
Great video, but what really did it for me is seeing that you have an awesome poster of one of my favorite bands ever, They Might Be Giants!
"Commies commies commies ". Lmao
**screeches when hearing MK Ultra because of being a massive Muse fan and already knowing all about it** but I didn't know about those other ones :/
+Jess Fletcher Finally, someone else knows about Muse!
Jason Martin I feel you, the only people who know them are my friends and that's only because of me talking about them ._.
+Jess Fletcher I'm sorry..."no one" knows about Muse? They're pretty famous....They have twice as many likes on Facebook as Fall Out Boy for example....wanna say Fall Out Boy is an unknown band too?
Mostafa Awad I think its more of a personal/my age group thing. I love FOB too, and when I've brought them up to other teenagers, almost every time they've known who I'm talking about. But when I try to bring up Muse, or when peers ask what my favorite band is, most of the time people don't know who I'm talking about.
Yeah but you don't hear people talking about Muse.
I am a little frustrated , i uninsulated my add block and i got a three minute add and was not able to skip it, im not mad at vlogbrothers , i just want to see if others face this problem
Yeah from time to time I get that too
no i mean i deactivated my add block, so that i can help my Favourite youtubers make some money and fond out that there are now three minute ads from six pack short cuts that i am unable to skip ... i some how got four of these ads in a row , so i reactivated it. the one thing is i was told that vlogbrothers have ads deactivated so thats why i am a little confused
I have never used an adblocker on youtube, and I have never experienced an unskippable ad of length more than 29 seconds. You either experienced a freak technical error, or you went to complain before waiting for the "skip" button to appear (it doesn't show up until about 3 seconds in now).
"and somehow none of the people that tried to overthrow the government were brought up on charges"
*bombastic side eye*
Excellent presentation, five stars or the equivalent, may I add you? All so very level headed and perfectly true.
I'd like to take a moment -however stupid it may seem to you- to point out this quote:
"It was working for Italy, it was working for Germany..."
Germany. Italy. You put them together...
GERITA RULES!!
Fangirl attack, just happened. Deal with it XD
I think The Scientology one was really amazing and at its core makes me wonder if a more concerned effort by American citizens couldn't be effective in a conspiracy of; oh lets say, getting that pesky credit debt almost all Americans are faced with. I watched Fight Club and I liked it.
i love how Hank explains stuff :)
This video cracks me up! I watched the last part over and over! Thanks for the laugh!!
Young Hank looks and sounds like the chav son of Hank Green...
_Whenever you're reading this..._
Fifteen thousand subscribers. Well, they've gone a bit past it.
I have spent the whole weekend trying to watch all of these video's...
Thanks for sharing this! I think there's some disagreement regarding how close the Business Plot was to actual implementation, however (which might explain the lack of criminal charges).
I started the video and immediately thought of operation Snow White AND THEN YOU MENTIONED IT
dun dun dunnnnn
u left out some good ones, 9/11, moon landing, Gulf of Tonkin, Northwoods Operation, jfk, just to name a few.
You do know he's talking about proven conspiracies now, not conspiracy theories, right?
+Lily Ellis Those r proven... the only thing is the empire doesnt officially recognize it.
I like watching you here on vlogbrothers your movements are far greater than on the crashcourse channel but I still love watching on either channel with you in it.
((still can't understand you))
That last one hits pretty hard nowadays
ALmoust seems that this all deathcampy thingies, and warring kind a ruined fashism for some people
This is not even close to the "Top"5... this is just 5
What would your top 5 be then?
Those were great examples. There was something with Iran and the Contras in Nicaraqua too. I know, it's hard to pick just five, but that was a nice one, too.
LOL... "What the Freak you guys, did you even look this up?!" lol... I love your channel, guys.
why does he keep calling me John? im not his brother
+MadScientist3000 Who the eff is John?
...No, no, that was wrong
Tori Lee lol
lololololollolololololloololooololololol
I may not ever understand this idea that says, "I'm fine with anyone thinking and believing whatever hair brained idea they come up with as long as they etc. etc."
People do realize that there are real world consequences that rise up within democracies when people believe whatever bat shit crazy thing they want to right...right?
This comment aged well
Semantic. But thanks. I'm glad you understand the difference.
The explosive/incendiary used is most likely thermate or thermite.
OUT FREAKING STANDING! Almost your best post ever!
First like in 8 years wow.
Is it illegal to try to overthrow the American Government? Isn't there an amendment that addresses this? I thought that there was something in place for scenarios where the american people feel the government is becoming too powerful or violating rights or something and could essentially overthrow the government.
In case you can't tell, I was never really into politics. Can someone tell me if I'm way off base or if I've kind of got the right idea but it doesn't apply because of X and Y?
It's in the declaration of independence.
You are correct, and as someone else stated, it is indeed part of the Declaration of Independence. That being said, that provision is for The People, not other high ranking politicians to stage a coup. So technically, they were committing treason. Just goes to show what enough money and social status will get you.
Amarianee That implies to me that politicians lose some of their rights when they become a representative similar to how citizens lose some/many rights when they enlist in the military. Is this correct?
For the most part, I would say this is also correct. But it might be more accurate to say that their rights are "different" because it's not all downside. Specifically for Congress, they also get free healthcare, can choose when they get a raise and what that will be and how long a working session is every year. They can also vote for personal gain, regardless of conflicts of interest, legally (for which most other people would be jailed for insider trading, etc.) There are a myriad of other bits and bobs that sweeten the deal for politicians, which is what happens when you get to write the rules that you have to play by. I would guess this is why none of those politicians were ever charged.
This is an oddly relevant statement in 2023
Mind control wuh?!
I knew this stuff, I'm 59. I loved it. More entertaining than reality TV.
I cannot stop watching this!!!! I love it!!!
It should be noted that the New Deal wasn't exactly great for black folks. Read about redlining.
how many people got the ad with the dude showing us his Lamborghini? How many wanted to just shove something at his face, really really hard.
In the Hollywood hills
10 years after this video and we are seeing things repeat themselves...
yes since no one reads history we are all doomed, by people's hubris, to repeat things that could have simply been otherwise recognized as a not "a good idea.
@@zeck303 well said
I love that corn dog lip balm in the background.
I posted this in reply to particular discussion, but will post it here again because that same discussion seems to be repeating over and over again
The last one is true. Absolutely. Also included Henry Ford, or one of his cronies, and other notable 'American Aristocracy' types, some Rockerfella cousins, some Kennedy family connections.. ...something like that. It was known, or, unknown to most, as 'The Businessman's Plot'. It was very simple, the new deal, the regulation of some sectors, deregulation of others, labour friendly laws, and massive public works, govt. regulation on wages and the like... got the 'Industrial' element of 'Military-Industrial Complex' very angry, exploitation and rampant profiteering had made them billionaires.. now that Golden Goose was under threat.
So they went to the Military side of the equation. They DID have reason, in the previous century they're fathers and brothers had made a lot of money, champion the US Govt. in to Military actions, actions which they profited from. Of course, they assumed.. and some will say rightly.. that the highest echelons of the US Military were posts given on political, not military reasons, so might find thanks to nepotism, they'd face less than sympathetic ears.
Instead, the looked for a man of action, a Soldier's Soldier... one who's post wasn't political. One who had the experience and the power to initiate the Fascist coup. They found one in General Smedley Butler.
General Butler was the Commander of the US Army Reserve, and as such, was the only US military commander who might be sympathetic, who had access to, and command of, enough troops to take out the domestic police and security forces, and assume control of the US Army Corps, after detaining his superiors and could put men he trusted in key command positions.
So, they went to Butler. They made their impassioned appeals, greased him up, and ultimately offered him the role of Dictator of Fascist USA. Butler was very receptive. Eagerly digested all they said. Got as much information as possible, and promised he was their man.
Except the choice of General Smedley Butler was possibly the single biggest misjudgment in US political history... in US history at all.
General Butler was about they most loyal... and about the most honourable, ...man they could ever have picked, I guess they missed the fact he was a DOUBLE Medal of Honor recipient. .. and most anti-fascist, anti-corporatist man they could ever hope to meet, he later said, (not Verbatim) "I'd killed Nationalists in The Philippines, Communists in South America, I'd fought revolutionaries in Cuba, all for them.. I guess it finally just made me sick to do it anymore, I'd be damned if I was going to"
General Butler, who regretted many of the above actions and their motives, was for the people.. all the people.. for the US citizen, not the US 1% as they're now known, he was fan of FDR, and his policies, and patriotic believer in the Republic, and Capitalist Republican Democracy, and had grown to loath Fascism. He took absolutely no time at all to front the President, and having nicely played along until they played all their cards, reveal the 'Businessmen's" scheme in full, every I dotted, every T crossed.
Why wasn't anything done? Why wasn't this public knowledge? Why even today is it so little known? Simply put, FDR summoned the men, then sat down in a room, where they were introduced to some Generals, some federal agents, and some local Washington special investigators... told them precisely how they were actually NOT going to remotely try to do anything against the US State, the Govt. there of, or he, the President... instead.. they would support his policies and moves at every turn, without resistance. For their efforts, all the nasty business of their Treason, would go away...and no one would get the electric chair.
Needless to say.. given the... shocking .. alternative.. they played their parts like they were up for Oscars. Of course, with their billions of dollars, massive economic clout, industrial capacities, and political connections.. they were far far more use to the US Govt. the POTUS, and the American people, alive.. but having to endorse policies and agendas they disdained SO MUCH that they were willing to launch a FASCIST COUP... was mostly like, and so much more suitably, a fate worse than death.
And then, Ironically, some of their descendants were elected president.
jcsv12345 Yep. They still hold their family wealth and positions of power today.
I was wrong about Butler though, he wasn't a General in the Army, but the Marine Corpse. He was in charge of one of the biggest Veteran Militia's not reserves.... but the rest is true.. they saw he was well connected amongst other Veteran Associations, in charge of one of the biggest, and was followed by some ardent and loyal masses, and decided his outstanding war record, his rank, his ability to mobilize men, and his success at taking on the powerful drug lords in... Pennsylvania.. I think... as ... Pittsburgs?... maybe... Organized Crime Tsar.. meant this was the man... he would make the perfect military leader.... their very own Franco... he'd have his own 'Fifth Column'... thanks to his popularity... his veterans and connections inside the Marine Corpse.. would be a match for the Standing US army.. and he'd become the perfect Puppet Fuhrer.
But Butler was also a alutrist, pro-wrking class, openly centre left in political leaning, despised dictatorships... but especially those of a rightwing bent... and really admired FDR for what he perceived as the Presidents attempts to make the lot of the low class and down trodden workers and farmers... the 'meat' as he saw it, of America, and the American military he so loved and served, even if they disagreed on some issues... such as Veterans pensions and entitlements having to mature for 20 yrs.. Butler marched with others on Washington to protest this... but he also calmed the masses of assembled Veterans, addressed them peaceably stood down the protest... because he viewed the Administration at the time in a positive light.
So what did Butler do?> Go right to POTUS... then the Congressional Hearing on the matter.... they found it probably true.. what General Butler was saying... then everything goes silent. But behind the scenes.. it's a fair wager to say... as outlined above... the guilty were... given an opportunity to atone ;)
What evidence do you have to back up your claims?
My birthdays on the fifth of November so it was interesting to know why my brother always gave me that card with that poem that starts off "remember remember the fifth of November"
XD Franky D made my night better. Thank you.
For the chart of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) google: "Global annual mean temperature deviations eurostat". The graph shows a slower increase in the last 10 years than in the 90s, but the general trend since the mid 60s is significant. There are of course deviations from year to year: We just had a very cold March in Central Europe, since a stable high pressure region over Scandinavia shoveled air from Northern Russia to us, but March 2012 had nearly record-high temperatures.
Thank you Penicillin History Fair project for teaching me about the Tuskegee Experiments
So alien warlords and are strange but the belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree* is all fine and dandy, eh?
Sounds totally rational!
* Description of Christianity from Urban Dictionary
Comment Sins: Everything Wrong With This Comment
1: Cosmic? Damn son, where'd'ja find that?
2: Samuli is a dick to jews.
3: Own father? No.. Separate personality. Multi personality disorder is a more fitting insult.
4: Make you live forever? You already live forever. He just makes you live forever away from brimstone.
5: Never said anywhere in the Bible, 4chan version of Christianity made by trolls.
6: Telepathically works, I guess. If you want to shove sci-fi terms around.
7: Implied BDSM. Wording not found in any religious text. This is worth 4 or 5.
12: Doesn't remove, only looks past it. Again, 4chan Christianity is different than real Christianity.
Rib woman is the only accurate part of this that is actually a little weird in context.
13: Talking snake? That's kinda missing the point as to why the snake was talking.
14: Magical tree? Nothing magical about the tree, it was a test to see how obediant humans could be. Said don't eat this fruit. They ate the fruit. Fuck them.
15: No, 4chan Christianity isn't all fine and dandy.
15 sins. Sentence: Dislike button (WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE).
Why are you even bringing this up? He didn't try to defend Christianity or anything.
Pycasne Eesost Missed the point of why the snake was talking... hahaha!!! Do you even hear how stupid that sounds!
Pycasne Eesost
Thank you.
I have no profile icon, so that looks retarded? Please give the keyboard back to daddy little girl. Your a rebel in your own mind.
What a simpler time. Thanks CZcams, I needed this
BTW, this was just the first site when you google those words. There are many more sites that have many more things covered.
OMG November 5th is my b-day! How have I not heard of this!!!!!!!
I fucking gasped when he mentioned November fifth and then i remembered that this video is more than a decade old
God damn it, here I was looking for the debunking of that entire "documentary" and then I found out it had been removed. Great, just great.
"None of the people who tried to overthrow the American government were ever brought upon charges."
Well doesn't that sound familiar
^^^^^^^^ unfortunate, but true
'against mah mayn frankie D'
I never thought I'd hear anyone say those words. Let alone Hank from vlogbrothers.
The Smedley Butler thing was interesting. Every single Marine knows his name and that he earned two Medals of Honor, but you never hear about the man himself.
You forgot about my favorite, the branch davidian, in Waco Tx.
Oh my gosh dude, you must like a lot of sugar in your coffee, so much energy! XD
Oh man I almost fell down the rabbit hole of conspiracy theories...thankfully I was pulled out.
Use a lower resolution or pay for more bandwidth. Last time I checked (which is no guarantee) you can set your default resolution in your CZcams profile. I don't use a mobile app though.
considering that vlogbrothers existed before scishow...Where HAVE you been.
Is there any link that you can share so I can get another source to say this is in fact true?
He is! Check out SciShow and CrashCourse (CrashCourse is partly taught by John, but I see no drawbacks there) - the two of them make great teachers as you'll have seen on this channel, but they get more resources for SciShow and CrashCourse, so they're even better :)
And as always, DFTBA.
the ad playing before this video was about a minute longer than the video itself.
not that im arguing but the quote that alluded you is " Life finds a way "
Why do I need school when I have vlogbrothers?
You asking vlogbrothers this? Or did you mean to post this as a reply to someone else?
When you said George Bush's grandfather, I heard George Washington so for a minute there I was really confused
But... it's thermite/thermate, because the aluminum concentration in the iron samples and the formation of hollow spheres found up to half a mile from the blast site.
and that is where the Muse song comes from
Thank you for your correction. Instead of calling them lies when there is no evidence, I will try to call them unfounded statements. Is that better?
Thanks :) Good vid.
I believe that the Kubark manual references MK Ultra somewhere. If I were a scientist looking into interrogation tactics in the mid-1900's, I would probably be tempted to study some of the things involved in MK Ultra. After taking an interrogation class, I can't say that I blame them - even if it was quite unethical.
I would like Hank to explain how a steel building collapses at free fall speed from an office fire on one level. That's not me being smug, I would genuinely like him to try explain building seven to me because hes a smart guy and maybe he can.
What about Project Envelope? When was that in relation to the implementation of adding flouride to drinking water? I think I'll look that up, lol.
One point, Guy or Guido Fawkes was the "demolition expert" in the group. He was fairly important.
Really scary how relevant conspiracy 5 is now.
Wow, interesting to see a 15-year-old Hank Green
Hank, you are awesome and remind me of Jon Cozart
The circumstances around 911 and discussions about those can go on forever, and I dont feel like using much more time on it. The main question still remains how jetfuel and gravity can be explained to be the cause of the towers exploding into dust.
I'd already known about the Scientology and Roosevelt ones.
Preach it Hankie-G
