In which John creates a list of the six most important conjoined twin pairs in history (in his humble experience) while also discussing his massive zit. Twins discussed include Chang and Eng Bunker, Millie and Christine McCoy, Lori and George Schapell, Giacomo and Giovanni Tocci, and the Biddenden Maids.
EDIT: I'm probably wrong about the Emancipation Proclamation freeing the McCoy sisters, although I haven't confirmed it. The E.P. did free some slaves, but most weren't freed until the 13th amendment.

Why? The wives knew what to expect when they got married. Different does not automatically mean awkward.

What was more awkward was that, IIRC, Chang and Eng had a falling-out towards the end of their lives and refused to speak to one another for several years.

There are conjoined twins who are conjoined at the head and their brains are connected. They can taste what the other twin is tasting, see what the other twin is seeing, feel what the other twin is feeling, and can talk to each other without talking.

Isn't it amazing how we are fascinated how people can be born different from our "normal" conception of human but we fail to realize that being born similar to others is a miracle within itself
The last pair was my favourite, and the only pair that really made an impression on me. The thought that the usual anatomy of the sisters' body allowed them to stay together and therefore were able to rely on each other through all their troubles, finally drove home the point you've been pushing for so long that the situation of conjoined twins is as good as it can be bad.
Watching this 3 years later, it was actually just beautiful to hear John talking about relief for the floods in Queensland, Australia. I lived in QLD at the time, and it was a pretty rough time for a lot of people. If I'd seen this back then I would have been super excited!
Haha I think QLD is doing okay! I haven't actually lived there since the beginning of 2013. But it is a pretty great state! Achieving a sense of community in a big city is difficult. But I live in Newcastle now, and I've seen how it can be developed! :)

Thank you John for the shout out about the floods. This is a really difficult time for my state of Queensland and it is so tragic this has happened. My city of Brisbane is in such ruins, thousands of people are affected, but it just shows the Aussie and Queensland spirt is alive! Conjoined twins are two people, and the law reflects this. Each twin has their own birth certificate, social security number, ID card, etc. Even in cases where a pair of twins is able to drive only as a team effort, (one twin controlling each hand and/or foot, for example) each twin has to take their own driver's exam and have their own valid license.

This is the first vlogbrothers video I ever watched, all the way back in 6th grade. I’m a junior in high school now, and I’ve been going through all the videos in order for a while. It’s so strange to come back to this one video that somehow led to this channel becoming such a strong presence in my life. It has become the place I always come back to. In a way, this video opened the door to a place I now call home.

there twins they have the same DNA and the are genetically and physically the same person.
I was very touched when john mentioned the floods in Queensland. Even though I wasn't a nerdfighter at the time, and my town was not flooded, the floods had an emotional effect on every Queenslander. And even though the floods occured almost 2 years ago now, it is still wonderful to know that people outside of Australia had heard of Queenslands's plight and were able to help.
Dear John,
I am currently stuck in the floods in Queensalnd, Australia and have only just got my power back. I spent the last two nights reading An Abundance of Katherines and The Great Gatsby by candlelight. Thank you for providing entertainment in such a dark time where my family and I couldn't even be sure if water was going to reach our house which thankfully it stopped about two houses from us. The devastation here is huge and I urge everyone to donate.

Further details would depend entirely on the relationship dynamics of those involved as well as their anatomy and personal choices - the possibilties can include entirely faithful monogamy and also every other possible state of human relationships that could happen in every other marriage. There is no one answer about the relationship status of conjoined twins because, like singletons, they are all different.

Actually no it is illegal to marry conjoined twins. Theres a famous case on netflix discussing conjoined twins who wanted to marry in the 1930's but were rejected due to polygamy laws. so it is illegal to get married at least.
As devastating as it is to have these floods affect my state and through that my country, it was wonderful that you asked for Nerdfighters to help us out. I only just got my internet back but thank you John.

I know I'm only watching this video 2 years, 2 months too late. But I live in Queensland, and those floods had a massive impact on my community, so it really meant alot that you would make mention of it in a video watched by thousands.
I'm currently evacuated, and it's been kind of surreal making all the phone calls to family to let them know I'm safe (strangely nice to hear from family yet strangely awful too) and was pondering all this when I remembered this video.
You were probably the first person I heard mention the floods. Meant a lot to know nerdfighterly authors are thinking about it across the globe. Thank you.

I went to the book store and bought a copy of Paper Towns. When I got home, I opened the book and was delighted to find that a made of awesome nerdfighter left me a note saying "Hey, nerdfighter! WHO THE EFF IS HANK!? DFTBA, and best wishes!" That made my day so much better.

This is really cool. Millie and Christine McKoy grew up in my home town. In fact they literally lived right down the road from me. My grandmother used to talk about how they traveled to England and met the queen. That's a pretty big deal for my little town.

My family own land in Biddenden and it is amazing to see such a great thing come from hundreds of years ago. We have a paiting of the town featuring the twins
The horrible part of watching old videos is it can bring back old memories better forgotten like what happened in 2010-2011 with the floods plus more.

A lot of old vlogbrothers videos have been popping up on my "suggested" list. So here I am! The main reason I'm making a comment though is because I have moved from the US to Queensland Australia, which just so happens to be named in this video. People still talk about the flood like it was yesterday.

I remember the medical/ethical debate regarding the twins Jodi and Mary from, what, more than 10 years ago now, very well. It was big in Malta here, as the parents were Maltese. I was quite young, but, as I said, the debate was rather strong here. What a story. Conjoined twins are truly fascinating, eh. John.

I consider myself a twin, but when someone asks how many siblings i have, i just say two - my older sister and my younger sister.
back to your question - in a real life situation, i think the two that are alive would just call themselves twins in public, for it just creates an awkward situation if one were to answer the inevitable "are you twins" question with, "No. we used to be triplets, but the third one died."
