    Wow this is like the first time I have ever seen an umpire enforce the "warning" rule properly. He allowed the Yankees to get even by plunking Ortiz and then issued the warning. That's how you're supposed to do it - over and done with. Good job ump

    like the way both broadcasters handled it. red sox commentator gave props to CC for staying away from the upper body, Yanks broadcaster can recognize it was a breaking ball to Granderson, obviously not intentional so no ejection necessary

      Yup. The umpire did a great job as well. Let the Yankees retaliate, and then used good judgement when Beckett's breaking ball got away from him to not toss him.

    That was a really good job of umpiring the exchange. Most umpires warn after the first beanball not allowing the other team to retaliate and then eject right away. These umpires did not eject Sabathia after hitting Big Papi, and then they did not eject Beckett for hitting Granderson in the back foot with a curveball.

    • @dirtybirdambrose
      @dirtybirdambrose Před 5 lety +2

      @@Y2JWannabe93 That's only partially true. Part of it was, he had starters who didn't like that. When Mike Mussina was on the Orioles, his manager ordered him to throw at Bill Haselman. So he did. Haselman charged the mound, and in the ensuing fight, Mussina injured his shoulder. At the time of the fight, he had a 2.86 ERA. After that game, he had a 6.37 ERA in 13 starts, and spent six weeks on the disabled list. Unsurprisingly, he wasn't really a fan of risking something like that again. And honestly, I'm guessing the Orioles weren't a fan of that tradeoff either.

    So my question to everyone is this- why does A-rod get complete backlash against him for the use of PED's, when COUNTLESS OTHER PLAYERS have been caught. Why isn't Melky suspended for a year? Palmiero seemed to get away with it. Hell, I doubt Miggy got that triple crown without an advance. Seriously, as much as I love baseball, PED's are quickly becoming the name of the game. Off the radar, these drugs are probably given out to players. It's just how most sports are nowadays.

      A-rod has been tested and failed more than once that is why he is suspended for how long it is..and you can't assume someone is on PEDs and say thats how it is now a days..if you think about it compared to how many actually play the game the amount of people that have failed drug test is very little..also MLB players are tested regularly if someone doesnt test negative for their career then they weren't taking and PEDs.

    • @lethrneck4
      @lethrneck4 Před 10 lety +1

      Major Hatcher arod never failed an official test, he admitted using after the list was leaked of the anonymous tests results that included manny and ortiz. just shows how MLB testing is a joke, outside braun, melky and a few others, most of the guys suspended last season didnt fail a test, MLB just had evidence they were getting roids from biogenesis..and those guys like braun and cruz, are back playing this year to huge cheers..braun to me is worse than arod

    Jeter was notorious for standing right on top of the plate, and he got away with it for most of his career. That's why he got hit a lot. That's also why he generally hit for high average. At some point the umpires stopped calling the inside strike to him, because he would put on this show of jumping back away from the plate every time a pitch was even slightly inside. Many times the pitch was right where the pitcher wanted it, on the inside corner, but they wouldn't get the call.

  • @WuLi4B
    @WuLi4B Před 9 lety

    That last pitch that Beckett threw that was "obviously not on purpose," yeah well I think most of the time it is on purpose. These pitchers are phenomenal, especially Beckett. That little curve ball that wound up breaking down and in and hit the guy on the foot. You think pitchers don't know batters have a very hard time moving that back foot. That pitch was zeroed in. It didn't look like he was out of control. Cracking one against someone's forearm, thigh, etc. Makes the batters think a little bit. It hurts. I know pitchers will sometimes throw an unbelievably wild pitch, no where near the batter, on purpose, but it makes the batter think is this pitcher having a REALLY bad day. Then bang, fastball right down the middle, strike three.

    Lets be real the only one Beckett might have hit intentionally was Jeter but the AROD and Granderson one's were accidents I mean come on we're talking about Josh Beckett

    • @dirtybirdambrose

      I think everyone knew the Granderson one was an accident, which is why Beckett (rightly) wasn't tossed.

    • @SolitarySoldier
      @SolitarySoldier Před 8 lety

      No he just understood the situation. Beckett hit 2 of the yanks best hitters so the best hitter on Boston gets drilled and thats the end of that. Ortiz knew absolutely it was on purpose he just didn't feel the need to say anything

      +Metsfan 756 Possibly but I've seen ortiz many times come after the pitcher after being hit. I dont beleive I've ever seen anyone coming after CC.

    • @SolitarySoldier
      @SolitarySoldier Před 8 lety +1

      +Howard Johnson that's because they're friends. But i got no respect for cc he thinks he's tough crap after he let his teammates down last year when he was binge drinking in the clubhouse and cries like a baby saying he's got alcohol issues. He's got no class and as far as he's concerned a lot of people are done with his act and glad his contract ends after this season. Yanks are gonna be so much better next year since they got so much younger with the deadline and bryds coming back. They don't need this inflexible payroll anymore since cashman knew he screwed up signing arod teixeira and cc for that much money. Hopefully cashman learns a lesson with all those signings that they're not worth it.

    • @kneebarx
      @kneebarx Před 8 lety

      +Metsfan 756 I agree they have to stop handing out these contracts. I think they stopped doing that with the Cano 10 year contract. And took him a while but now he's starting make more sense, getting younger players meanwhile supplementing that with free agency not the other way around. And I dont know what happened to CC that alcohol shit caught everyone off guard. He's washed up now too but he'll probably be the last to go. Cant wait for 2018 Harvey and Harper to the Yanks! haha

    • @SolitarySoldier
      @SolitarySoldier Před 8 lety +1

      +Howard Johnson harveys not going to the Yankees I promise you that. No way the yankees are gonna offer him the money he wants regardless if he has a cy young year in his last year prior to free agency. Maybe the wilpons of the mets will deal with his act but steinbreinner will not. They aren't getting him. Harper maybe since he's a young guy with a lot of talent and a lefty power hitting player in yankee stadium would be a great signing but he's gonna want a lot of money
