  • Harman are the latest company to release a brand new colour film stock. Phoenix, a 36 exposure, 200 ISO, 35mm film is released today and I was lucky enough to test a few rolls before release. Here are my first impressions of the film stock and my future plans for using it.
    A big thank you to Harman for sending me across the film to test, I can't wait to shoot more and really refine my work using it. You can keep up to date with Harman and all things Phoenix here:

    The photos you managed to get with Phoenix are definitely the best I’ve seen so far, you really leaned into the imperfections and made them work for you. I just got a order of rolls today. I’m excited to use them on a fashion campaign!

    So exciting to have a brand new colour film stock! It definitely has a particular look to it and agree that the shots rated at 200 and perfectly exposed or slightly over exposed work better than under exposed 👍🏼👍🏼 great work as always Sophia 🙌🏼

    I love your pictures, especially the inside and outside of the train. I've heard from some users it's best to shoot it at 160iso to get a little more from the midtones and shadows.

      @SophiaCarey  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Thank you so much! After shooting at 200, that doesn’t surprise me that people enjoy it at 160! I’ll have to give it a go. Thanks again!

      Thank you!! That’s one of my faves too, I think it’s a good example of how the colours render. I’m really excited to shoot more with it too!

    I saw a interview with the developpers of the film. They said the real iso is around 125. However, because of the halations using a higher iso will probabily be better.

    I feel like this stock works well for darker skin tones, similar to Pro 400H in that respect

    • @SophiaCarey
      @SophiaCarey  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Yeah I haven’t really been able to gauge properly how it works with skin tones yet because I haven’t shot enough variety at enough different speeds, but I think from what I’ve seen so far, I can agree

    Wow, looks like an interesting film. Would try it at 100 too, just to test. After a long time of BW Film only I shot some colour films and an XP2. In our course at VHS (Something like conmunity college or WEA) we made a fototour with colour film and we developed them with a Cinestill C41 Kit.

    • @SophiaCarey
      @SophiaCarey  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Good idea, I’ll definitely give it a go at 100 and see! Ooh I like XP2 a lot but I’ve only shot it the once and it was an expired roll. That reminds me to pick some more up! And ah amazing that sounds so exciting!

    Do you know the scanning process used here? These look great but some others seem to be getting really odd scans

    • @SophiaCarey
      @SophiaCarey  Před 6 měsíci

      These were all scanned by Harman themselves, so whatever the guidance for Phoenix is on the website will be how they’re scanned, I imagine!
