  • In today's video, I take you with me for a morning walk with the Polaroid I-2 and talk about the reasons behind starting my day off with a walk, how that will hopefully affect my relationship with photography, and also some more thoughts on the Polaroid i-2.

    This is such a cool thing to do in the mornings! I'm also glad that you shared photos that were overexposed and not necessarily "Instagram-worthy" and it inspires me to start focusing on how to find interesting angles or scenes before getting into the technical settings of photography. Thank you for posting this!

      Ah I’m so glad! I definitely don’t think there should be a pressure for every photo to be “worthy” for socials, or publication at all. I think it’s nice to be comfortable in shooting just because you want to!

    Thinking about it, I have a similar practice some days, I go plug my car in at a charger and spend about 20 minutes walking back to work from “home”. It’s definitely been an enjoyable practice, whether on digital or film.

    I’ve tried doing the walk before work think, it helps clear my head before my day.
    Never considered taking a camera with me, but it’s a consideration

    • @SophiaCarey
      @SophiaCarey  Před 2 měsíci +1

      I definitely think it’s useful. It’s so easy to neglect your health (mental and physical) when you’re busy too, so making a walk in the morning a non-negotiable can only be a good thing.
      I think taking a camera is just one of those things that’s nice to have just in case. The first day I started this, I didn’t take a camera and I definitely regretted it. Some days I might only take 1 photo, if any, but it’s having the camera there just in case that’s the thing.

    more occasional Polaroid videos please - I think the 'not going what you are going to get' scenario with Polaroid adds a certain creative jeopardy - it's a bit like taking photos with your subconscious !😆

    I enjoyed this very much. Don't forget that this Polaroid i2 is a viewfinder camera and not an SLR like the old SX70 was so there is a parallax issue when framing with near far objects, which reminds me that I have to use my SX70 one these days. The photograps where they have come out are beautiful. I have a feeling that the new Polaroid films do not keep very well and are volatile to temperature changes. Just buy them and use them is the best way, I guess.

    • @SophiaCarey
      @SophiaCarey  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yes! I definitely find it difficult to work out framing when the viewfinder doesn’t marry up to the lens. I have the same problem with the Fujifilm GA645 but, like I said in the video, it’s not very often that I line up symmetrical shots (and even then, I think that the difference between lens and viewfinder on the GA is less than that on the I-2). Definitely also agree re: the film and how to keep it - I’ll be ordering it on a shoot by shoot basis from now on I think!
      Thanks for watching!! So glad you enjoyed it!

      @@SophiaCarey To be fair, I have the same problem with my Leica M cameras in very close situations. This parallax error was one of the reasons that SLR took over the range finder crown all those years ago.

    • @SophiaCarey
      @SophiaCarey  Před 2 měsíci

      @@lensman5762 that makes sense! Are there any tips to help bridge that discrepancy/rewire you brain and eye to help you figure it out? 🤣🤣

    • @lensman5762
      @lensman5762 Před 2 měsíci

      @@SophiaCarey I don't know of any Sophia, sadly. The only cure atleast as far as my Leica M is concerned is to use the dedicated goggles that came with my 50mm F2 Summicron Dual Range which has close focusing capability, so it is Leitz's optical solution to the problem. For digital Ms I guess the use of the LCD screen or Leica's very expensive EVF unit would sort the problem. For Non- Leica cameras I would have no idea. In the Range Finder forum, it was suggested that the only viable solution would be to mentaly mark the position of the viewfinder and then move the camera up and left so the lens is at that position. How practical or accurate it is, is anyone's guess.

    Were these photos shot in the area you moved to? If so, its such a lovely place and great for photo inspo! I used to live there, and miss it a whole lot. Morning walks by the water were such a wonderful way to start my day and I have a whole heap of (iPhone, lol) shots from those mornings. Look forward to seeing what you capture next.

    You are living my dream, I really enjoy your videos. I was wondering if you have used the flash with your RZ in a shoot and if so how did you meter for it. Keep up good work!

    • @SophiaCarey
      @SophiaCarey  Před 2 měsíci

      Thank you so much! Yes, I use flashes all of the time with the RZ (there’s a few videos on the channel about shooting with strobes!) and I usually meter with a digital camera, which makes life a lot easier! I’m fairly certain that you can use meters like Sekonic light meters, though, to help you meter for strobes too. Hopefully that helps a little! Thank you so much!
