Is there the same amount of room in the main compartment on both bags is the newer bag a little smaller ?

Sorry for the late response, so the satchel is about .5” taller and the slim briefcase is 1.5” longer (15.5”). The inside area is about the same, but the slim has a big open pocket on front.
If there is a my perfect satchel/briefcase it would be the large satchel with the front pockets of the front pocket briefcase.
