    My wife and I stayed a month in a very similar outfit while running a trap line. The solar generator is a God send. A couple words to the wise if staying long term in a camp like this. wool blankets, the inside of tent temp will drop drastically as you allow the wood fire to die in the stove , you and your bed will experience condensation in a canvas tent when that happens. Only 100% wool will keep you warm, do not sleep in the tent with a roaring tent stove, have a smoke alarm and CO. Detector as well. Use several wool blankets w a thick foam over air self inflatable mattress. We use Metal boxes to keep our food in, and do not eat in the tent. A bit of crumbs is all it takes for a hungry rodent to chew it's way into your tent. Cut all the firewood you need for the whole time you will be there, then cut more... and pile it. Then cover it good. Make sure to cut a lot of small stuff for kindling wood, and have tinder ready to go. For the whole time. Do that day one. You can get sick, or injured, in that case you won't be bucking logs, but you could feed a fire if everything is prepped material wise, then you don't freeze to death because of a mild illness you'd otherwise survive.
    Last but not least, have several methods of staying clean. Portable shower, shop towels, baby wipes, alcohol, soap... Long term camp in the cold means what worked today may not work when you're freezing.

      May I say? The Modular Military Sleep System uses what? A really good day of research on CZcams will enlighten one a lot regarding that question. For advanced outdoor living... Question: What is the Extreme Cold Weather Clothing System. CZcams research will teach you that in one afternoon. Let US not forget the FREEDOM part. Now then. One more question? How many "Puffer/Sherpa" layers are you wearing under your "Amazon"...(Capitalism! Not brought to you by the American Trucker...) "Rain Gear". I love my USGI Poncho and "woobie". Probably the best on the Market today! And my Mountain Hardware "Ozonic" Rain Gear Tops and Bottoms are indispensable. But the 33,000 Ft kind is cheaper and highly functional. ("Three Piece Suit.")

      Question? Do you wear those furs, and eat them too? Why do you spend money? Threads... Feed... They did it 10,000 years ago. Thank you for sharing! An interesting... How to say... Wool does insulate when wet! (Especially socks.) What is the percentage of wool that has to be in the socks to insulate when wet? Have you tried water proof socks from Amazon?

    • @Rob-ji7fx
      @Rob-ji7fx Před 6 dny

      @@davidturner3014 wool items normally retain the percent of heat equal to the percent of wool when wet. 80% wool retains 80% of its insulative quality 70% wool retains 70% of its insulative quality. So 100% wool is the best, it is also far easier to keep clean.

    A lightweight tarp slightly larger than the floor dimensions of the tent makes for a great rain cover, and with approximately 12 inches of standoff between the tent and the tarp in the summer months, the tarp provides a great shelter from the sun and allows for the tent to stay cooler inside.

    I have the 3000 series pecron and it runs my lights, small refrigerator, and my nighttime fan for 4 days at camp. A fine piece of equipment. It’s lithium ion. I would prefer lifepo4, but what they don’t tell you is that you can’t charge lifepo4 below freezing. (Unless you have a built in battery heater). So after saying that, I’m glad I got this one. The price is right and you don’t need all the app knowledge. Very simple and productive. Solid piece, a little heavy but hey, it’s a battery.

    Love the video. My thought on it is that in the event of a bugout you can't really have a fire. Those who might want to find you so that they can take what resources you have can smell your fire a mile away. Also you probably don't want to sleep in a tent or anywhere in plain sight. If someone does come to take your stuff they will probably choose to attack the camp while you sleep. So, sure, put up a tent, give them that target. But sleep off the trail, on the ground where you are unlikely to be seen and you can see your camp and the area around it.

Please use the spine of your knife on the ferro rod....it'll save your sharpness. Pack some long tongs for your grilling to get your hands away from the heat. I'm planning to Bug-In, I live in Northern New Mexico 50 miles south of Albuquerque and 8 miles out of the nearest town but right on the Rio Grande, there's only 2 other cabins on my road and they are both preppers also so we have a plan and 99% of it is already put together.

    I have a similar tent from White Duck Down. For those style tents it’s recommended to set the tent up. Then spray it with a hose/sprayer with water. Wetting it down will shrink the cotton fibers and naturally water proof it. I’ve hunt/ camped with ours and it weathered heavy rain for 2 days. Never leaked. For your stove pipe I use a small pipe collar slightly modified to closely fit the pipe to shed the water away from the opening in the tent. I love the video you made and will be buying your survival products soon .

As being experienced with canvas tents, you should never touch the inside of the tent when it’s wet on the outside because wherever you touch or lean something against it, it will leak and all seams should be waxed sealed just out of my experience I had a great Hillary canvas tent, proximately the same size many years ago, and never had a problem, again great video keep them coming loyal subscriber. 👍👍👍🌴😎🌴🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍🙏🏻🤣

    I don’t know why everyone is getting so uptight about using the knife edge to strike your ferro rod. We have been told to use a sharp 90 degree spine, and taught how to make it so, if it doesn’t come with it. But seriously, if you can’t afford to resharpen the quarter inch striking surface, then I think you should stay home and just regurgitate the same criticisms from other CZcams channels. The point is that he isn’t doing it wrong, he’s doing it in a way that works.

    How long can you remain self sufficient before you and your family run out of good? How much land area do you need for sustainable hunting/trapping

    • @idahoprepper
      @idahoprepper  Před 4 měsíci

      Sustaining just on the food we have stored away, probably like 5-6 months.. as far as how much land one would need to support livestock and a renewable food source for them.. probably a minimum of 20 flat acres for grazing. Hope that helps! Thank you for watching!

    Nice tent
    But your ground tarp is too small for the tent

  • @burkena
    @burkena Před 3 měsíci

    You made 1 MAJOR.. mistake . Striking that ferro rod Inside the tent @ 3000* F you would burn a hole in any tarp floor and defeat waterproofing and snow coming up through the bottom.
