    Solid Advise all round. That's one of the great things about this bobby. That it is completely scalable. If you have very little to spare or no limit to your budget. You can build a coin collection either way and have fun doing it. Good video.

    I really like the piece you said at the end: "the sole reason that we're in this community is to appreciate the history that is hundreds and thousands of years old; holding the same coins that others did hundreds of years ago."
    I think that sums up collecting things like coins and stamps very well. Imagining who could have held the same things that you do hundreds of years later, to think of their life and what they might be buying with their money or how they may have earned it. I feel that's a very poignant and humanising take that can resonate deeply with a lot of people; reaching through history and touching the same thing as long-dead men.

      Thanks George, it totally is. I think it’s very easy to get sucked into the quality of coins and ignoring the hsitory, and it’s good to take a step back and remember why we’re doing it 😊👍🏻

    My first hammered were bought for like 3 pounds, they were crusty Charles I farthings, but they were still very cool to me! There are always many great and cool coins to get on a budget, for all categories, and you did a great job showing us which hammered to get on a budget! Great video Luke! 😊

    Excellent advice! Although I’ve dabbled in English and British coinage before (and even own a single hammered Charles I Tower Mint shilling), hammered English coinage was never my focus. As far as hammered stuff goes, I’ve mostly focused on Islamic hammered coinage and have opportunistically found good deals on it here and there. But let me tell you, after watching your channel for a bit, I can already sense my interest in English hammered coinage (and even early milled coins) skyrocketing! It’s hard to resist, when there’s so much excellent information on this channel! You have a real knack for breaking down what is potentially a bewildering variety of coinage, and presenting it in a very organized and user-friendly way. You’re doing truly great work on this channel! 😎👍

      Thank you so much Samy! What a lovely message to read today and I’m really happy they’ve inspired you to start up collecting English Hammered ☺️ look forward to seeing your comments to show me what new purchase you’ve got 😄

      @@TheHammeredCorner : I already know what I want to buy for starters: a silver penny or two, preferably medieval, and in as good a condition as I can afford (within reason). It seems to me that the silver penny was a bedrock of the economy and coinage of the British isles for centuries, so it seems proper to start there. I’ll keep you posted for sure!

    Great video, really gives you good insight on what can be bought on a budget. I myself have falling in love with English coinage, I stated my collection with Roman copper coins, then moved to British copper coinage of farthings, halfpennies, and pennies, then I added hand hammered British brass jetons, I have two from George II and so far my oldest H.H is a Polish 1625 3 Polker, cant wait to start collecting some Edwards, Elizabeths, James, and Henrys. Thank you for introducing me hand hammered coins.

    Great video Luke👍 my first was a Lizzy so I have a fondness for coins of her reign. I haven’t found a complete Henry lll yet, I have many half pennies and farthings. I think the voided long crosses are some of the better looking hammered pennies.

      Thank you! I may do at some point, but I would need to become more familiar with the coinage to do an affordable one ☺️ (I do have a fantastic Celtic vide coming in January!! 😆)

    I guess it's no coincidence that Edward, Henry III and Elizabeth I are also probably the hammered coins I most often find. Have you noticed values of these coins actually falling as more and more are found and perhaps supply outstrips demand?

    • @TheHammeredCorner
      @TheHammeredCorner  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for you comment Stefan. Coin prices are still on the rise, specially high grade examples. So even those these are more common, the demand for them has definitely been spiked due to the pandemic ☺️
